This is from the bottle...although that bottle was filled about 50 feet away the previous day, so this is about as fresh as it gets. They don't do draft weizen in their brewery, so this is poured/swirled by their barman.
It's a super cloudy light khaki color. Even after 10 minutes, there's no sign of the yeast settling or the color losing any consistency. The head is thick like meringue and coats the walls of the glass.
While some weizens focus on either fruit or spice character, this one has a distinct creamy vanilla character that keeps coming back. Banana and nutmeg are ever present, but I really like the vanilla character. It's almost like a pie or dessert in a glass.
Mouthfeel is right in between thick and drinkably thin. If anything, it's my one knock on the stuff.
Honestly, this might be my favorite weizen anywhere. It lacks the giant fruity attack of the Munich-area weissbiers, but that creamy character is something I can't get enough of.
An excellent beer, and one I might actually even be underrating as odd as that sounds. Top notch in every way.
I'm going to see how this brew does as an import, as the one I had at the brewery was spectacular. The ratings don't really reflect that, so maybe this one doesn't hold up to time very well?

bottle that i mixed and matched into a six pack at city wide in south bend. looks ok...a bit like pee but i use that only as a visual analogy, not a description of the quality of the beer (as so many others do). massive banana ester odor. very sweet smelling and fresh. wheaty, banana taste goes down easy...kind of like drinking a banana soda. i really like bananas though so this is good. refreshing too...tasty. solid mouthfeel. actually too banana-y to drink tons of because that would get old fast. i think its a good beer to have after you've already had a beer.

Purchased a .5L bottle at my local Glendora BevMo. Poured into my beloved Weihenstephan weissebier glass.
Appearance: cloudy pale golden coloring; tons of carbonation briefly stoked a tall snow white head before it collapsed in on itself, leaving a ghostly ring of lace.
Smell: modest aromas of yeasty malts, vanilla, and clove. Not able to pick up any banana aroma.
Taste: dry hayfield maltiness yields to a bready malt taste. Slightly spicy with clove and vanilla flavors but none of the flavors were all that pronounced.
Feel: light, crisp, refreshing and very tingly on the tongue thanks to all that carbonation.
Overall, a decent, though not great hefeweizen. Definitely a good one on a hot summer day. Recommended.

Pours a hazy yellow-gold topped with a two finger creamy white head, leaves webs of lacing, fully cloudy with the yeast swirled and added in.
Lemon, and slightly spicy aroma, grass and wheat, light vanilla, clove.
Similar in taste, lemon zest, wheat, grass, citrus and clove.
Light and crisp, easy drinking.

Bottle from Friar Tuck's in Peoria, IL
Bottle has "Bottled on 2" stamped on it, whatever that means. Not too much dust on the bottle (somehow typical of Mahr's), so perhaps it's only a few years old...
Poured into a tulip glass
Mahr's hefeweiss differs markedly from their saphir weiss, with emphasis less on hops and more on yeast, wheat, and untraditional flavors in hefeweizens. While I didn't find the beer unappetizing, I don't think I'd seek or try this again unless the bottle was known to be very fresh.
Pours a crisp white head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring around the glass, leaving no lacing at all. Body is a hazy orange color, cloudy from the suspended yeast. Becomes more noticeably orange when held to light.
Aroma is mostly yeasty and of wheat-grain, with a bit of light orange citrus. Not particularly what's expected from a wheat beer, nor particularly strong or appealing.
Flavors are a bit adrift from normal hefeweizens, or at least in this bottle, but not bad. Taste is of prominent wheat and yeast, which then meets some orange flavor. Generally sweet with a mild tartness from yeast usage. Aftertaste is slightly yeasty and grainy.
Body is medium-light to medium, with ample carbonation that creates an at first crisp, then smooth mouthfeel due to the carbonation being slightly prickly, then foaming to smoothness. Finish is quite dry from residual sugars.

This brew is a hazy orange brew, with a big white head on top. Nice banana and lemon scent, the usual german hefe. The traditional flavors are all present, a little more lemon zest than the banana end. Nice wheat malts, yeast, not the best out of all the german hefes, but its damn good.

Another German hefe. My local store stocks every German Hefe availaible so I tried this one. Very typical. Good head. Cloudy yellow/orange. Yeasty sweet nose. Citrus taste and a little spice. I would say this one is a little more orange tasting than others. Very enjoyable. A little watery but good

Cloudy honey-gold with a moderate white head settling to a ring.
Wonderful smoky, spicy nose. Banana and clove. Quite tempting.
Light spritzy mouthfeel. Sweet to start, gentle yeast or breadiness, citric tartness to finish. Pretty easy drinking beer, maybe a little too gentle but interesting across the board and worth a try.

This wheat beer from Germany is a very pale yellow offering with a very short crown leading to a very thin ring.
The body is a medium and the carbonation is very light.
The added cloudiness to this product makes it a very unappealing brew to look at, let alone consume.
The nose is lightly yeasty.
The taste is very sweet and lingering.
I did not enjoy this brew...nor is it close to my favourite style...others think highly of it.

50 cl, Bottled 06/01/04. Pours a clouded golden orange-yellow color with a big white head that is lasting for a good while. Some sweet malted wheat, banana and lemony citrus esters and plenty of clovey phenols. Light tartness in the finish, sweet wheat malt up-front. Lots of esters and phenols. Delicious. One of the better hefes I've had recently. Extremely smooth and satisfying, especially on this warm, sunny afternoon.

The bottled date on the back of the bottle just has the number "two". I have no idea what that means. Mahr's Weisse has the typical cloudy golden wheat color of a hefeweizen. Head is fairly large at first, but doesn't stay around as long as some hefes. Carbonation is moderate. The aroma is moderately strong and clovey. The taste is very good with no element really dominating. A tasty mix of wheat taste, cloves, banana, lemon, and spiciness greet my palate. Everything is nicely balanced, yet interesting. This one stands out from the few hefes that I've had and is entirely too easy to drink.

Gravity cask at Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn NY
A - Hazy yellow pour that has plenty of foam at first, but zero retention. Cloudy look from yeast sediment in the glass. Lacing is in thin rings.
S - Citrus scents hit the nose, as does a mild hoppy smell. Fresh cloves and banana show up as the beer warmed.
T - Some light grains and the yeast make this feel hearier than you might think. Spicy finish from spices and earthy hops. Minor amount of sugar but more of a tartness.
M - Raspy feel on the tongue. Fresh and clean finish. A very refreshing beer that I can only imagine being in a German biergarten and kicking back.
O - Not my favorite Hefeweisen (and with options like Weihenstephaner not the best import either) but a good example of what Germany enjoys regularly. I've enjoyed the sampling I've had fromt his brewery.

Pours hazy dark yellow with large foamy head that immediately completely disappears, no lacing. Aroma is bready yeast, clove, banana, all that can be expected in a typical Hefeweizen.
Taste is brady malt with significant amounts of fruity esters, mostly citrus, spicy yeast, clove and slowly drying finish. Mouthfeel is light with loads of carbonation and faint, but pleasant warming feel.
Nice Hefe, but there are better ones out there. It somehow reminded me of good quality Radler, there was a lemonade feel to it.

Pours a light and cloudy yellowish body with a thick and foamy white head that lasts. Aromas are banana but not as strong as I would like. Taste is banana with some floral notes. Mouthfeel is watery, with only a slight fruity aftertaste. A little weak for the style. In any event, a good session weisse.

.5 L bottle. Mahr's Weisse pours out a cloudy yellowish color with a small head. The aroma is wheat with bananas and apples. Thick wheat flavor with nutty yeast. Just a little bit of apple and lemon fruitiness. Lots of clove and pepper spiciness. Some sweet caramel flavor too. Finishes dry and a little hoppy. The mouthfeel is creamy. This is a delicious weisse, crisp and refreshing. I could easily drink 3 or 4 bottles.

Pours a hazy orange with a thin white head; good lacing. The nose is subtle, with mostly wheat and citrus. A surprising amount of banana comes through on the taste, making it just a bit too sweet. Mouth feel is a little thinner and less "abrupt" than most hefes, perhaps making it more drinkable. The low ABV adds to drinkability.

50cl bottle poured into branded Mahrs weissbierglass at Mahrs Brau, Bamberg
A - Pale straw cloudy body with very good head retention and lacing from the 4 finger creamy white head.
S - Classic aroma. Mostly clove with a hint of banana in the background.
T- A little light banana/clove mix which fades to a thin weaker spritzy dry finish.
M - Medium to high carbonation. Body is light.
D- A pretty standard weiss. Flavour profile is too thin aswell as the body to make it a classic.

A: Pours farily clear yellow, lots of yeast at the bottom of the bottle, swirled and poured. Now slightly cloudy yellow. Small white head, no lacing down the glass
S: Smell is of wheat, yeast and slight lemon zest
T: Good wheat taste followed by a citrusy sweetness.
M: Light to medium bodied. Prickly mouthfeel
D: Pretty drinkable Hefe. Not the best I've ever had but not bad at all.

Purchased this bottle at Colonial Spirits in Acton, MA. They had about 3-4 different Mahr's beers.
Cloudy orange-yellow body with a huge white head that lasts. Smells of citrus, yeast and bananas. The first thing I notice in the flavor is that it is a bit more fruity than I expected. Not overpowering in anyway though. Every effervesant with tons of bubbles going everywhere. Taste is citrus with a touch of tart. Very smooth.
A good beer I will come back to. Especially next summer.

A nice find, to be sure. The more I try this style, the more I am learning to appreciate its nuances...
This straw yellow brew - yet rather murky - left a vigorously bubbly head upon a solid pour from the bottle. The aroma was filled with fresh-cut wheat, some hints of citrus. Chewy in its wheat texture, this one was a pleasure to sample. Paired well with a Bockwurt and some spicy German mustard...
Prosit!

I've got a little renewed interest in this style lately, and in my book Mahr's can do no wrong, so I picked this up the other day. Vibrant orange, fading to a bright yellow around the edges of the glass. Big and foofy white head, long lasting. Crazy scents coming off this one: plenty of citrus zest, lemons and oranges, with a nice fruity banana vibe as well, and some sweet and savory spices, pepper and cinnamon. Taste is plenty complex too, with plenty of those qualities previously mentioned transfering over to the taste. It's always disappointing when a beer smells good but then the taste falls short, as I often find in hefs, but this one comes through all the way. Lots of sweet banana bread, lemon rind, spicy clove and an herbal hop boquet meets a sticky, doughy, wheaty, pile of malt. Definitely on the meaty side. I think it's a seasonal thing, and I'm itching for this spring weather to really turn over, and a nice refreshing heffer is just alright with me this time of year.

Pours a slightly hazy pale orange with a quarter inch head that fades very quickly to a spotty cap and thin ring, leaving behind small amounts of lacing. This is much more clear that I would have expected from a hefe-weizen, and half-way through the glass the head completely disappeared, as well as any lacing.
Smell; fruity esters of banana, with some sweet honey and cloves. The wheat is present, but doesn't seem to have as strong a presence as I would have liked.
Taste; the bananas and cloves are present, along with a very sweet honey-like flavor. As with the smell, the wheat is there just not in the way I think it should be for a hefe-weizen. There's a kind of tanginess, that just seems out of place, and the second half of the glass a mild vinegar flavor came out that I did not enjoy. This just doesn't really stack up to most of the other weizens that I've had in the past. Mouthfeel is very thin for a hefe, and due to the thinness and that strange tanginess, and eventual vinegar flavor, the drinkability is not there.

This was actually on tap at Moan and Dove. Once served, it had a huge, bubbly head on top of a very murky, golden liquid. This hefeweizen had delicious aromas of wheat that were strongly permeating from it. It had a great tangy aftertaste with powerful citrus flavors. It was also very light to the point of it being a very refreshing drink. Overall, one of the best hefeweizens I have had recently.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a Schneider-Weisse Weizen glass.
Pours a fairly hazy pale golden colour with a pretty nice head.
Smells weizen-y - faint hops with light biscuity malts.
Tastes wholesome but not as much as you'd expect from a hefeweizen. Tangy yeast, fruity hops - lots of banana actually, balanced with mid-light malts.
Overall quite a nice beer, but I wouldn't go back to it, considering all the other, better ones on offer.

I didn't have a lot of faith in this one to begin with and my suspicion was right. Pours the usual cloudy honey color of most Weizens but the head was minimal and short lived. Taste was mostly clove and a little wheat malt flavor. Flavor deteriorated over time and finished a little stale. Not a satisfying wheat, you could do much better.
