Your first impression is going into an underground hole in the wall, until your met by rows and rows of beers all organized by country and style. Then you can make your way back to the growler section where now they have brooklyn chocolate and 90 minute ipa among the 6 choices ready to pour. IF you need any info before you head out, they have a facebook page that is current and always answers your questions. Dan and wayne are two of the coolest beer geeks youll ever get to meet. They dont try to push/oversell beers that youre not sure about, but give you honest answers. Lots of selections and an always updated rare rotating selection. Since I moved to the area its been my only stop

I finally got to this place today and sorry I hadn't gotten there sooner. I found Thomas Hardy Ales in ample supply and will go back tomorrow to buy out most of this. Great selection and if you're looking for barleywines or beers with high ABV's, you're in luck as the joint's temperature is perfect for aging beer. The workers are very knowledgeable about beer as well as their inventory. They have beers on draft as well so bring your growlers or anything that you want filled.
Had heard of this place originally from someone who worked at a beer store in Clifton, NJ. Unfortunately, it took me a number of months to get there but I'm glad I finally did. It's not the best organized place but believe me, very well worth the trip. If you're looking for something that may be a couple of years out of production this is the place. Good chance you'll find it here...but don't take my barleywine before I buy out his stock. :)

I have been buying beer from these guys for some 20 years. I come here mostly because of the huge selection of craft beer. They have gradually improved over the years by adding more to their line up including fresh beer on tap for growlers of any size. There are usually 6 beers on tap. Prices are very good here as well. Many times you can a get a craft beer growler for much less than a bottle version. The guys at Cable are freindly, knowledgable and helpful. They have no problem just talking about beer to pass the time. They will gladly try and get something for you if you don't see it there. I have attended several beer tastings from some great brewers and have been quite educated talking to the brewers rep. I'm lucky enough to live close by but I would have no problem driving a good distance for what Cable offers in the way of craft beer and great service. Thank you Cable guys. Cheers

Great guys in a crazy cramped store with all kinds of nice stuff, and odd stuff, stashed around the place. Left them my number and now they call me whenever they get stuff like BCBCS, Better Half, and the like. Thanks Steve!
You don't get much in the way of atmosphere here..like I said, it's cramped and a bit dingy. The first time I came in there were a bunch of beer geeks geeking out in the back who, with their predictable girth, blocked the aisles considerably. Plus I was with the missus so I couldn't nerd out with them too hard. They have an excellent selection, with much of what comes to NY state, lots of locals, like Keegan (super kitty!), Defiant, Cap'n Lawrence, Ithaca, etc. Plenty of German, English, Scottish, and Belgians. Prices are very low, only bested by the completely unpredictable Route 59 Beverage a few miles away. Unpredictable because they might have what you're looking for, something you didn't know you wanted, or nothing at all.
Last visit here yielded a BCBCS for 12.99 and an oddball retired Hannsen's, Mead the Gueuze, for 5 bucks. Make an afternoon and visit these guys, Route 59, and Defiant for some beer and BBQ.

I had come up from New Jersey to pick up some Goose Island since I knew Sofie was out and you can't get GI in NJ.
You drive around the back of the building. The parking lot is a mess from both the cracked asphalt and the crates of discarded bottles and other beer-related trash. It's also not very clear where to park, so be creative. So first impression was low which just heightened the expectation of what I'd find inside.
As you enter, the register is immediately on your right with the bulk of the store extending to the left. But I didn't notice the rest of the store at first since the endcap directly opposite the front door held the Goose Island I was looking for. It also had Cigar City which made very excited. I grabbed a bottle of Sofie and a bottle of Hopping Frog's Black and Tan and Dan (the guy behind the counter), said I could put them on the counter if I wanted to continue to shop. The counter was really small so I joked that he was going to need a bigger counter.
They had many breweries that I've never seen before but that's just as much a function of the distribution of these breweries as it is their excellent selection. They're very well stocked with beers from the British Isles, Germany and Belgium as well as most of the rest of Europe. Their domestic craft brews were really good and they had many of the 100 Barrel Series from Harpoon.
I found a bottle from Unibroue that I was not familiar with and it turned out that this beer is discontinued, so that's the reason for a minor knock on quality, but still my bad for not knowing this. It makes me worried a little about the freshness of the 100 Barrel Series beers I bought.
They have some taps in back that they use to fill growlers. They had a few DFHs a couple of Founders and a Bear Republic. More importantly, they sell singles. You'll see a lot fo six-packs with bottles missing due to this.
The place is cramped, very cramped, and the stacks of cases to be restocked sitting in the aisles didn't make it any easier to get around or explore what was on the lower shelves. I didn't really mark all that low on atmosphere because who really goes to a beer store for atmosphere? Why is that even a category here? I left it at a 3.5 to be fair even though it could be lower for the tightness of the aisles and the exterior. It's possible that they haven't cleaned up from the snow storms.
Anyway, this place is worth the half hour ride and I will be returning for some Cigar City (especially when Hunahpu comes out again) and some beers from Pretty Things.

Pretty small store; maybe 6 aisles that are about 6 feet long. In the back corner there is a growler fill station with about 6 options. The prices on the growlers are completely reasonable and some are suprisingly cheap.
Prices on the bottled beers are also pretty reasonable except a bottle of 2007 Utopias for $299. The variety is pretty good. They have a good spread of Belgian beers and American craft beers. The people who work there seem to be pretty nice but at no point came over to provide any assistance.. Despite that, not a bad little bevy.

Cable Beverages may not look like much on the outside, but that's why they say you shouldn't judge a book on its cover. Beneath its meager exterior is an even leaner floorspace, but nearly every inch of that is packed with all different kinds of beers, with a wide and varied selection. And that's what counts!
The shelves, while tightly packed, are well-stocked with beers from all over the world and are conveniently separated by nationality. There is also a row of freezers with a varied assortment of chilled craft brews as well as the typical BMC dross that all beer stores seem to be required to have. The selection is excellent for the area the store is in, carrying far more unique names than you can find in a typical Rockland supermarket. Of course they didn't have everything I was looking for, but seeing as I want to try almost everything, I'm not going to hold that against them.
The prices are quite fair and I definitely don't mind them at all. About $20-$30 can get you a decent selection of beers to take home and try. The staff there are friendly and personable and always ready to help, making the shopping experience a pleasing one.
All in all, Cable Beverages is a winner. Yes, it's tiny. Yes, it's cramped. But it's got one of the better beer selections in the entire county, and that more than makes up for its shortcomings.

First time coming to Cable Beverages and was immediately in awe. Heard from this place by a couple of friends and was told to check it out. This place definitely doesn't disappoint. There is an incredible amount of variety around.
Each aisle is separated and organized by country. As far as I can remember, there's an aisle for Germany, Belgium, England and US breweries. There's a lot on the shelves, on the ground, in the fridges. There store is actually pretty small and cramped, but the selection of craft is incredible. Of course, there's the amount of the BMC cases stacked one after another on the sides.
The guys there give you time to look around by yourselves, but are very knowledgeable and helpful if you're ever in need. They do accept credit cards if you don't feel like using cash to pay - so that's always a plus. If you're ever near the area, this is definitely a hot spot to check out.

Like its been said it is small but has everything you need. It near the New City Diner and it can be hard to find if you have never been there since your probably flying down Rte. 304. The new sign does help though. Its the only place to get beer in the Rock and you see license plates from Jersey so you know its good.
The selection is great with a huge selection of micros and little known beers. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. You can pre-order if you wish or make your way through the tight isles and find something new.

I grew up in New City and this was the best local place to get beer in Rockland County. Still is. As other people have stated the place in tiny but I prefer to see it as charming. The aisles are really tight and boxes are constantly in the way. That being said they do move things out fairly quickly while at the same time you can get some aged and rare beers as well. They do have a small shelf near the register that showcases new arrivals which is something I always apprechiate when I go to a bevie. In the back they do have 5 rotating taps for growler fills which is great. Sometimes the prices can be crazy though. Last time I was there they had Ithaca Ten but at $47 for a growler. They also had Sixpoint begali tiger for $12. Went home with some Sixpoint. While not a destination stop if you are in the area or live in the area this is the place to go. When I lived in Westchester I would make a trip over the bridge once or twice a month as Westchester has no good beer stores.
