Notes:
Boulevard's Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobaccillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour, and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but don't we all?
Sour characteristics come to the fore in this release, foreshadowed by the tart, winey aroma. Notes of cherry, chocolate, olive brine, and leather give way to a subtle hint of funk and a dry, clean finish.

Batch 2.
Appearance: Pours out a clear ruby color, even trending toward pink hued. Very little carbonation. No head retention or lacing. Very attractive color on this beer, but everything else is a bit off for the style.
Smell: Tart cherries, lemon tartness, and slight funk on the nose. Not getting much barrel.
Taste: Sweet and tart cherries up front, with lemon tartness present in the middle and finish. Light funk as well. again, not much barrel. This beer is much more oud bruin than wild ale.
Mouthfeel/Overall: Mouthfeel is nice and light, but the absence of measureable carbonation is very noticeable. This beer isn't completely flat, but it's close. Overall, kind of tough to grade this one out at it's a very tasty beer, but probably not what I was expecting as a wild ale. As I said above, much more oud bruin than wild.

Drank in between the born on date of 2012 and enjoy by 3/2014. I think I made the right choice
A- Rusty, ruby brown pour with a decent head upon the pour, but a few seconds in, it becomes minimal, as does the lacing. Nothing crazy, but the lack of haze, cloudiness in the pour is impressive
S- Smells like a baby oud bruin; faint cherry dominated by a tame one note of funk. Not bad, but the cherry definitely faded a bit too much and the funk never really changed much
T- Again, like a less complex Rodenbach but with some slight tart cherry bite, not noticing the 9.6% abv at all in the flavor, most impressive part of the beer
M- a little to be desired, the carbonation is not as crisp as I would like it for a sour
O- I find it hard to grade aged american wilds too harshly and I did have this fresh as well and fresh this beer is much better. The funk/sour quality isn't complex enough to develop into anything out of this world, so the cherry really carries this beer to me and aging it just drops the best part of the beer. Drink this fresh, don't bother aging. I did bump the overall rating a tad because the drinkability is still superb!

A: Reddish brown hue with a thin but steady film of a head; okay lacing
S: Tart apples, cherries, cider vinegar, lots of oak and just a touch of whiskey aroma; this is a fruity, boozy, and tart smelling beer
T: Quite tart and creamy: fruity with cherries, apples and a touch of a cider vinegar flavor; quite oaky and there is a subtle sweet boozy whiskey flavor lingering beneath--really quite tart, refreshing, and tasty
F: This is a delicious big sour beer; I love the creaminiess and the tart fruits mingling with the subtle woody whiskey flavors
