This is one of the best beers I've ever had. its only available early winter at the brewery as a sample. Tastes like nutcracker with loads of sticky hops. They let the dry hop bags drip off and keg what little is left... hence the name Nut sack. Wish they add this one to their smokestack series.

A sampler contained this one.

Pours a very cloudy brown orange. The head was really creamy with a nice lacing.

Nose at first contained apricot and rum. then it went away.

Taste was a surprise. This beer is on the IPA side. A nice dose of citrus, hops and spice. The beer is on the sweet side at first and then finishes with a citrus oil.

Mouth feel is really creamy and carbonated.

This beer is a real find. Fresh, easy to drink and good tasting.

Very nice find from Boulevard, the first from Boulevard that I've tried, actually. The presentation is nice, a medium brown body supporting a finger of off-white head. The nose and taste bring lots of hops to the fore, with some good spiciness and some molasses. Good flavoring, though I'd like a little more spice to accost the taste buds.

This warmer is worth my squirreling a couple away for the next couple months. Good, tasty winter warmer. I'll be certain to grab another Nutcracker to enjoy by the fireplace. Well worth the try.

This version of their Nutcracker Ale is on a limited test run at the brewery (for the winter of '02). Boulevard is experimenting with this one by "dry hopping" it. I'd say the experiment passed with flying colors. The beer was served with an off-white, creamy head; the body was a darkish copper. The nose was hoppy (alluring pine and some floral); there were also some strong hints of acidity. Not surprisingly the palate matched the nose… very drinkable. A wonderful winter warmer… this beer is very similar to SN’s Celebration Ale (Nutcracker has less alcohol potency).

I will like to see if this “test brew” will replace the standard version of the Nutcracker Ale… I guess we will see next year!
