Notes:
Boss Tom’s Golden Bock is our seasonal offering for late spring. The smooth, soft maltiness of this traditional lager is complemented by a noticeable but restrained hop presence. The beer finishes with a lingering dryness and just a hint of caramel. The word “bock” also means “billy goat,” and images of goats are often used as a symbol of the style.

A- Clear yellow orange, two finger head that doesn't last long at all.
S-Straw, malt, bread, toast. Extremely malty.
T-Very malty, straw bread, caramel. No hops. Slight grass. All around mild flavors.
M-Light, not much carbonation and dry.
O-A boring beer, starting to think the style is just a boring and bland one.

A-Pours a pale/clear golden color with a white, carbonated head that retains fairly well. Appearance is unimpressive as it even looks watered down
S-Malted barley, dry wheat bread, and sweet caramel with faint notes of peppery spice and floral hops
T-Caramel malts, dry wheat bread with a twinge of zesty spice in the finish
MF-Overcarbonated and a bit watered down. Finishes dry with an unimpressive body
O-Not bad. But not great either. This is an average brew that is underwhelming as none of the notes are too pronounced and too subtle. I would like it a lot more if the body was thicker.

Well within the best by date.
Smallish white head. Very clear dark golden color.
Grainy sweet malt aroma, with soft melanoidans.
Full mouthfull of malt. Soft and fluffy feel from the carbonation. Melanoidans are a little stronger here, but never strong, just pleasing. Still with some grainy character. Very mild hopping although a touch or two shows here and there. As warms some caramel appears. A small of amount of drying on the finish.
This is a lighter version and a nice drinking bock in which a couple would not be much of an issue. I think it's a little lower rated because of it lower abv and softer flavors. I look favorably on these things.

Poured this Maibock from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. This Golden Bock poured a hazy golden amber color, produced an average head, below average retention and it left little lacing on the glass. The aroma of this ale has a base of pale malted grain, and only mild hops. Light in body, this Maibock had a foundation of toasted malted grain, some slight hints of sweet caramel, and for the style, very nicely hopped. The finish was bitter, more so then i expected. Decent take on a traditional beer style, more hops then you would normally expect. Got to love American Craft Breweries, always adding their own twists. Great session beer, good intro into American craft beer. Success. Prost!

This is an excellent maibock. Best one I've ever had. American maibocks I've had in the past are often over-hopped, but this one is superbly balanced. A delicious and refreshing mixture of hops, malt, and yeast. All in moderation, but interesting at the same time. At $4.99/ 6-pack this was an excellent deal. I highly suggest it for an overall well-rounded beer of any style.

A- This beer pours a crystal clear golden body with a sticky bubbly snow white head that last in sheets on the side of the glass and slowly slides back into the beer. There is a swirling carbonation of tiny bubbles.
S- The fresh sweet honey malt aroma turns nougaty as it opens up with a flinty hop bitterness coming through in the finish.
T- The clean slightly sweet malt note is followed by a green dry hop note in the finish that is almost just a bite. There is a carbonic acid taste that lingers a moment. As the beer opens a watery taste and sulfur note start to grow.
M- This beer has a light crisp fizz mouthfeel with no alcohol heat noticed.
O- This beer has a nice mellow sweetness with a touch of hops and a crisp mouthfeel but the sweetness is more nougat and not much malt flavor to the sweetness. The watery and sulfur taste also get in the way.

Been buying 6 packs of this Bock on sale at a local place... Hits the spot every time!
A- While nothing stands out as special about the look of this beer, it does manage to be quite tantalizing. The label (complete with a goat and stocks of grain) is well designed, and the libation itself is a lovely golden brown with a very faint amber hue.
S- Slightly skunky with an overwhelming malt aroma... hops take the backseat, but are definitely present. A good smelling beer, but nothing special.
T- This is where the beer shines! The taste is absolutely wonderful... Crisper and more bitter than their Wheat beer, but less intense than some stronger Bocks I've tried. The hops and the malts truly work together to create a one-of-a-kind taste. Very crisp and satisfying.
M- The only things that stand out about the mouthfeel are the zingy bite and the foamy finish. Not fantastic, but just about perfect for this brew.
O- Boss Tom's Golden Bock is the perfect brew for those of us who seek a refreshing summer beer without resorting to the adjunct filled rubbish we see everyone else drinking. A perfect union of hops, malts and carbonation make this the obvious choice for summer refreshment.

Served in a Boulevard glass because I can. Beer is amber and clear with moderate and steady carbonation, nice looking.
Aroma is subtle but nice, yeasty and malty. I like it.
Beer is medium in body, sweet and yeasty, nice finish, easy drinking, a very nice little bock. I drank several and would have it again.

Best by date 6/9/12 (whew). Pours to a sudsy white head with good retention and lace. Color is clear gold. Aroma is sweet and malty with a slight biscuity aroma. Flavor is appropriately sweet and balanced, with the unmistakable well-rounded Munich malt coming through. Mouthfeel is medium and pleasantly sticky. Overall a decent Maibock, not special but not bad.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Best by date 7-1-12.
A- Litlte to no head retention. Pale clear light amber color.
S- Clean malt sweetness with a hint of apple. No discernible hops.
T- Subdued malt sweetness with that same apple note as in the nose. No bitterness to balance things out.
M- Thin and watery. Carbonation is ok.
O- Maybe this was too close to the best by date but I found it to be bland. Drinkable, no off flavors just not very satisfying.

Clean golden-amber in color, with an attractive head of off-white carbonation. Lacing seems light.
Nose is toasty and bready, like an amber or lager.
Taste is sweetly malty, with a crispy orange/lemon citrus zing at the finish. The overall effect, though is sweet and malty, rather than hoppy. A decent brew, but not a favorite.

I found this single 12oz brown bottle at the Binny's store in Bloomingdale, IL and used it as part of a build-your-own six pack for $9.99. The boss they're referring to is the former Kansas City political machine boss Tom Pendergast, and his picture and story are up on the neck label. No freshness date anywhere on my bottle.
The beer poured a clear light golden color and made a nice 1-finger white head, but the head dissipated in under 30 seconds and left no lacing on the glass.
Swirl and sniff as hard as I could, I couldn't coax an iota of smell out of this beer.
Sweet caramel and bready malt flavor dominate this beer. There's a hint of hops in the middle but overall the bitterness is very mild. If you like beers on the sweet side, then this one is right up your alley.
Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, and moderate in carbonation.
It could stand some more flavor, but overall it's easy to drink and very enjoyable.

For a guy with a History degree from a University in Kansas City, I must admit that I bought this beer based upon name alone. A name born from the man who made Kansas City, former post-Depression political boss Tom Pendergast.
This beer goes down very smooth with a pleasing flavor and somewhat bold finish. Outside of their Smokestack series beers, to me this is one of their best. I prefer it to the all-too-popular Boulevard Pale Ale, as I see it falling somewhere between the Pale and Dark Truth Stout on my list of Boulevard's best.

Boulevard beers are back in my area and I guess it's time to start revisiting them... even if there are styles that weren't available back in the late '80s -- including a favorite style like this one.
Plain as anyone would want ink-jetted on the bottle neck: Best by 07/01/12.
A -- Clear, deep gold color with a firm white head.
S -- Mild DMS up front, some yeasty breadiness eeking through.
T -- Mild caramel up front with some spicy hops in the middle and a good overall crackery breadiness. Finishes lightly hoppy spicy and bitter. Lingering yeasty breadiness in the aftertaste.
M -- Mouthfeel is soft to crisp with a light-medium body.
O -- The first hit of caramel in the flavor threw me off, but it doesn't hold up and the crackeriness with lightly spicy hops hold this beer to style and save it. Certainly worth a try for any Maibock lover.

Looking forward to trying another Boulevard Seasonal.
Bottle best by 7-01-12. Bottle poured into a pilsner glass.
A- With an aggressive pour this beer pours a very clear golden yellow, with lots of foamy white head that lingers a while and leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. It looks like it will be very refreshing.
S- Nice bready, malty smell, biscuits. Some mild grassiness in the back.
T- Crisp and refreshing. Nice malty sweetness, some mild hop flavor in the end. Finishes clean.
M- Light to medium body, nicely carbonated.
O- Another pleasing seasonal from Boulevard. Easily a nice late spring session beer.

A- 2 finger head with soapy characteristics. Fast retention and a fair amount of lacing.
S- Nutty, biscuity and bready. Hints of honey and cracked pepper. Reminds me a lot of Fat Tire.
T- Buttery/bready taste almost overpowers everything else. Also, a strong hint of honey.
M- Medium bodied with strong carbonation.
O- Not bad. If you like Fat Tire by New Belgium Brewing then you'll like this.

12oz bottle, pours golden with excellent clarity, white head dissipates rather quickly while leaving some scattered lacing on the glass. Aromas are grassy, biscuity, fruity, lager yeast. Tastes are fruity, sour grape, apple, grass, with slight bitterness on the finish with a tingle on the tongue. Body is thin with modest carbonation. Overall, good bock beer here, but nothing spectacular.

As Boulevard is my favorite (and hometown) brewery and I'll pretty much drink anything they offer, you know I snagged a sixer of this at the store here recently. Poured from the bottle into my Mississippi Army National Guard mug.
Appearance - Nice golden color with a small finger sized head that sticks around for a minute or two. Leaves little lacing, but looks like a refreshing, late spring beer, which is the intention.
Smell - Malty, bready, crackers, and just a hint of hoppiness.
Taste - Hits you with a strong dose of bready malts and crackers up front, then finishes nicely with a kick from the light hops. The brew is very lightly hopped, but just enough to add that balance. Very delightful indeed.
Mouthfeel - Finishes clean, just as I would expect from this kind of brew. Its' even a little on the dry side because of the hops, but I like it.
Overall - Although Bock isn't really my cup o' tea, this is a solid beer that I would certainly recommend to anyone. I likely won't buy it again, but thats not because I didn't like it. Only because I'm not a big bock drinker in general. Good brew though. As a history major, growing up and educated in this town, I have a lot of resources on Boss Tom too, interesting story if you're ever in town and want to hear it!

I poured a bottle into a mug.
Appearance- Deep golden color with two fingers worth of head. Very little lacing.
Smell- Malt, bread, and a slight bit of grassiness.
Taste- Bread-like malt flavor with some sweetness. Just a hint of hops at the finish.
Mouthfeel- Medium bodied and crisp with a mildly dry finish.
Overall- This is one of my favorite beers of spring. It is very refreshing and highly enjoyable.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.
Look: Clear deep gold. White head that recedes to an even film, wide lines of foamy lacing initially.
Aroma: Malts, barley, sweetness throughout, faint grass, hops.
Taste: Quite malty and sweet up front. A subtle grassiness sneaks in the middle with a balancing hop finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium body and creamy. Very drinkable.
Overall: A delicious beer, easy to drink more than one.

Review from 6/2011 notes. Poured into a tumbler. Pours a light golden yellow amber. Minimal dissipating white head and no lacing. Light bock aroma, sweet malts and light hops, pleasant, but low key. Mild sweet and caramel malt, light hops. maibock flavors to style, but too understated. An satisfactory dinner beer, but too mild to be interesting. The caramel malt aftertaste grew on me as I drank this bock.

As a disclaimer, this beer was sampled about 5 months past expiration so its marks may be slightly lower than normal.
Golden, straw colored lager. Weak head with poor retention and no lacing.
Light aroma of fresh bread, dry rice and corn.
Cereal grains come through in the taste. Mild flavor of white bread. Just a hint of earthy, leafy hop character. Smooth overall and a bit musty tasting. Finish is clean with no residual flavor at all.
Light bodied with a sharp, snappy carbonation.
This stuff is just ok. Its best quality is that it is easy to drink.

Thanks to my folks for picking this beer up for me, along with many others on their trip to Arkansas.
Clear, and pale sunshine color with average bubbling. Not much in the way of head or foam.
Medium toasted grain, biscuits and syrupy crackers. Hops add some cut grass to the mix for balance.
Very crisp and mildly toasted cracker, biscuit, and bread crust malt taste. Hops clean the palate a little with some added earthy grass and Earthen flavors.
Great session Boack that makes me think of late Spring... in the evening with friends... while its raining and we are hanging out in my garage.

Boulevard Boss Tom’s Golden Bock has a thin, white head, and a mostly clear, golden color, with lots of fine particulate matter floating about, an enormous amount of streaming bubbles, and little lacing. The aroma is of sweet bread, clean water, and a touch of hops. Taste is sweet, bready, hoppy, grassy, and good. The mouthfeel is light and watery, and Boulevard Boss Tom’s Golden Bock finishes crisp, clean, easy-drinking, and refreshing. Overall, I really like this and recommend you give it a chance.
