Notes:
Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard we have fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were experimenting with variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a big surge of fruity aromatics and grapefruit-hoppy notes, the flavor of this complex, straw-colored ale tapers off to a peppery, dry finish.

From the bottle poured into a tulip glass. Nice hazy orange color with a contrasting white head.

Strong smells of citrus and hops but a little too hoppy for me. The taste and mouthfeel are great - a nice touch of carbonation to tickle the tongue.

Overall a fairly decent saison. Not as good as some others but fairly solid for what can be found in 4 packs at the store! Probably going to be a new go to beer for me during the summertime so I can save my bigger bottles for friends.

Hazy golden, nice frothy head that leaves wads of lace.

Smells of citrus and yeast.

Grassy/wheaty base, with nice grapefruit/orange wash accentuated by black pepper, hints of pineapple, mango.

Quite effervescent mouthfeel.

The smokestack series never fails to impress. This was a nicely americanized belgian worth keeping your eye out for.

Poured from a bottle into a Bell's tulip. The pour is a beautiful clear gold with cascading bubbles rushing up the sides of the glass. The head is huge, white, and billowy and lasts a decent while, leaving behind some nice lacing. The nose is a pleasant mix of earthy and floral aromas. Herbs, rose petals, yeast, wheat, and lemons all contribute.

The beer is medium-bodied, has a good firm feel, and a sharp, refreshing, somewhat complex flavor. Up front, the flavor is slightly sweet, malty, and fruity; very much like a tripel. Then, at mid-palate herbal notes take over and the beer becomes more pilsner-like. The finish is moderately dry and the beer overall is easy-drinking and refreshing.

Overall, a very good representative of the style. My only gripe is that the herbal peppery component at mid-palate is perhaps a bit too strong and disrupts the balance of the beer. Still, fans of traditional Farmhouse Ales should not pass this up if they see it. It's a winner.

General - Got a 750 ml wine bottle size bottle of this beer. Allowed to chill (because it was room temp from the store) for a little while. Served it around 60 degrees F, a touch high for this beer. Drank it out of a New Belgium style tulip. Being as it's getting hot in SoCal a Saison was a nice way to go.

Appearance - SRM color is around a 7 and is very fitting for a typical Saison. Big fluffy white head on this beer, it's taken 3 pours to get a full glass. Lacing seems to last forever, even when my glass is half full there is still a one inch high ball of head in the middle of the glass. Awesome!

Aroma - Citrus and floral. Smells like someone peeled a lemon and added it to some sort of a tropical flower. Theres a slight scent of banana in the background that is really nice. A touch of sweetness like a malt but very mild. In general this is exactly how I expect a Saison to smell.

Taste - Just like the aroma there is an upfront punch of citrus with each sip. Near the back end you get that banana cutting through. Definite punch of alcohol in this beer. There is a puckering that goes along with that booze for sure. A bitterness comes in near the end also. This is a pretty strong beer for a saison, that's for sure, but it's not a bad thing. There is a spice that is in the background also, my guess is caused by the yeast used, not exactly any sort of addition. The spice is mild but noticeable if you are looking for it.

Mouthfeel - I think that the best word for this one is effervescent. This thing is packed with carbonation. There is a distinct drying of the mouth after each sip. This is very refreshing despite the slight alcohol burning that it comes with. On a hot day this would be trouble for sure, someone could quaff two or three of these and not even realize it's an 8%er.

Overall - The ABV is actually a little bit high for the BJCP guidelines which ranges up to 7.0%, this one is 8.0%. Not a bad thing but it's typical of American breweries to bolster every ale they brew. I would love this beer without the alcohol burn that it comes with but even with that, I REALLY REALLY LIKE it. Can't love it, but it's real close. This is an awesome beer for hot weather. As far as an example of the style it's acceptable but is out of parameters for ABV. I'm going to enjoy the rest of this big ole bottle and then head to bed with a quenched thirst and a spinning head!

Tank 7 poured a hazy bright color with a nice large white lacing head. The aroma has alo of pepper and flower notes. The taste has strong pepper and flowery notes, strong spice notes. Full flavor and nice feel, nice carbonation. Overall found the tastes a bit offensive and undrinkable not for me.
