This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

They say there are two sides to every story, and that’s certainly true of Two Jokers Double-Wit. On the one hand, it’s a revival of the classic Belgian “wit,” or “white” ale, with lactic fermentation providing a refreshing tartness. On the other hand, it’s a modern, uniquely American brew; big, flavorful, and spiced with cardamom, coriander, orange peel, lavender, and grains of paradise.

In my Duvel Tulip. Pours a cloudy golden with two to three fingers of white head. Very pretty looking beer.

Aroma is bananas, cloves, gum, sweet and citrus fruits. Wheat and sugar, very inviting and complex.

The taste is an entirely different thing than the aroma. It’s sweet and sour, all the citrus comes out in it.

Palate is great! Good carbonation and rolls smoothly along the tongue. There isn’t much of an after taste to speak of.

Overall a very interesting brew. I’ve never encountered a beer that accomplishes what this does, giving off an aroma that isn’t anywhere close to the actual taste. Beautiful.

A - A pour down the side of a tulip glass came up to a solid four fingers, receding to a clumpage of two with sticky retention. The body is a golden honey, lighter around the edges in the light. The carbonation is inviting, constantly springing up from the bottom of the glass like champagne.

S - Zest of orange and lemon, candy sugars, and ripe fruit. A tart, apple-like funk springs up from the yeast.

T - Lightly spiced orange hits first, with hints of clove in an otherwise summery palette. Followed by a mellow body of citrus and wheat, finishing just on the edge of floral. The lighter flavors hedge off the 8% ABV, making this a very refreshing brew that’s still worth spending some time with, rather than guzzling.

M - Like a hefemosa, the famed breakfast brew of hefeweizen mixed with champagne. High carbonation and zesty citrus make this a real pleasure in the mouth.

Overall - A strong showing of an American style wit. While it may lack some of the yeast character of a traditional wit, it’s such a full, rounded flavor. The defining characteristics - citrus zest, hint of clove, and so on - can be used to describe so many beers in and out of this style, but this one’s worth spending some time with to explore all the nuances. As an added plus, the bottle (in my experience) really is just as good as finding it on tap.

When I heard Boulevard was bringing out a double wit I was also not happy.

A: A good bit darker than most wits I've seen. Nice head and sticky lacing.

S: Whoah! The orangepeel and coriander smack you in the face.

T: The spices come close to being overwhelming whithout actually going there. Wit flavor in your face. Alcohol is a maybe a bit too prevalant, but that's just a very small complaint. Overall the taste is great. I'd like to say it's balanced, because it tastes balanced, but I don't know that I can with all the flavor going on.

M: Smooth, creamy, and super bubbly.

D: I could drink this all night and gladly pay for it the next day.

Well, my concern over a double wit being put out was overrated. This is the best wit I've ever had. I shouldn't have doubted the brewmaster since I hear he is Belgian. At $7.49 a bottle this was a steal.

A:a nice hazy, dark grain/straw color. Decent white head that hangs around.

S:light herbal and grassy notes, bit of citrus.

T. Nice smooth wheat base, some citrusy flavors in the middle, mostly orange and lemon, with herbs/spices and a grassy flavor at the end, which lingers awhile and is too strong for me.

M: medium bodied, smooth and somewhat creamy.

D: pretty good for an 8% beer, goes down without tasting like it, but I am feeling it near the bottom of the bottle. However, the overpowering herbal taste makes me wish I had someone to split the bottle with. I

Pored from a 750ml bottle w/ cork & cage & a batch number of 2011-1 w/ a best by date of 12-2011. The cork pops off w/ ease! Extremely carbonated & pours w/ 2-3 fingers white head easily. Not much in thew way of lacing though. Pours a hazy golden straw color. Just wonderful.

The nose is of orange, floral, peppercorn, & yeast. Citrus hop presence on the nose as well. Bready nose after a refill, some peppercorn following & finishing w/ the orange/floral/lavender mix.

Taste is BAM!! Right up front in your face w/ taste! Has the orange peel upfront w/ the floral/citrus hops to follow. Quite a tart finish. A little sour throughout the taste. A complex interplay of spices & some coriander. Lavender is pretty prominent w/ this take on the style. Has a quick finish as well. Quite sweet. Much more than any others I've had.

Mouthfeel is light to medium. A pretty light body overall though. No doubt helped by the huge amount of carbonation. Very refreshing & a unique beer. A fantastic summer beer & very drinkable! Prosit!!

A: Pours a light hazing yellow with a super big head without even trying.

S: Lots of citrus up front, lemon, and some hay funk

T: Very light and refreshing, lots of carbonation in the mouthful, although light all the flavors are def present, I love the added sour that is different from last years version.

Overall I really think this is a pretty good beer especially for the the summer, very refreshing! I really like the changes they made from last years version, the added sourness although subtle, its great!!

A: 2 finger head that retained well. Clear amber color, well carbonated.

S: Strong smells of spices! Orange, coriander. Sweetness to it.

T: Same with the spices of orange coriander. Quite sourness to it. Can taste the alcohol in it for sure!

M: Medium body, well carbonated!

D: Easy to drink. bit to sour, and pretty strong, but a great beer, and i would buy it again!

Poured from a 750ml bottle - thanks to JediMatt for this

A: Golden amber in color with a large fluffy head that gives GREAT lacing

S: Yeast upfront, with spices and banana following nicely

T: Tastes very spicy - corriander, cardamon, maybe a bit of clove? Also tastes a bit yeasty, true to style. Very tasty brew.

M: Medium-thin (a bit thinner than I'd like), with high carbonation.

O: With a high ABV that is well hidden, I would drink this more often if it was available locally, and more often still if it was in a smaller format, which takes it down a bit in the overall score for me.

A - Light golden color with 2 fingers of head with nice lace retention.

S - Fruity and wild with plenty of spices.

T - Well-balanced with spices and citrus fruit apparent at the beginning moving toward a wilder finish. Flirting with a sour flavor.

M - Thinner feel with ample carbonation.

O - A fine example of a wit-beer with a wild, spicy, fruity flavor. Well done!

Sampled from bottle. Pours cloudy yellow-orange with a creamy white head and thick lace. The aroma is subtle with some banana and pepper. Balanced, with bold yeast character. There's lots of pepper/clove and I'm assuming Boulevard went with another yeast for this beer other than a traditional wit biere yeast. The yeast character resembles what you'd find in a Belgian Strong Golden. There is some orange in the finish, but I'm missing the corriander's perfume. Medium bodied and highly drinkable for an 8% abv beer. This is the best 'double wit' that I've tried so far. Recommended!

Split this with my boyfriend which was good because it took both of us to get the cork out. We compared that cork to one we had from another Smokestack a couple weeks ago. It was much longer - more than can be accounted for from dehydration. If this wasn't a manufacturing defect, prepare for battle.

A: Nearly clear bright orange-ish gold with about 3/4'' foamy head. Moderate retention and lacing.

S: Very aromatic, with strong orange peel and juice, cardamom, coriander, lemon peel, some light funkiness and and a little wheat.

T: The orange is present up front with a kick from lemon peel and funk, then balanced subtly by the wheat malts and some floral notes. The spices come through at the end of each taste. The cardamom dominates but coriander, clove, and pepper are all present. The high ABV is nowhere to be found in the taste.

M: Medium-bodied, high carbonation, dry finish.

D: At 8% this is a little dangerous because it is very well hidden. Really refreshing and flavorful. To be fair, I probably would have scored this higher for drinkability had it not been for the cork. I have calluses from that thing. I will never again look at a corked beer the same way. Yet, I am glad we persevered for this was an excellent beer.

750mL bottle into a stemmed glass. Batch 2-2009.

Pours a hazy, light orange-amber color with a fluffy white head that dissipates quickly and leaves little lacing.

Peppery, floral, pleasing aroma.

Taste is citrus, pepper, noticeable yeasty sourness. Mouthfeel surprisingly light for an 8% ABV beer.

Overall, excellent summer beer.

Generic 25cl tulip glass pour

A: Carrot-colored orange to a translucent amber around the edges.

S: Beautiful coriander and slight cardamom push. Very Belgian-y. Faint spice aromas of perhaps lavender/rosemary and white pepper.

T: Orange zest and a biscuity yeast are immediately present. White peppercorns don't seem like a reach after all. Very citrusy without a sweetness or spicy cloying. Quintessential yeast and wheat tastes. Very good.

M: Medium to full bodied. May not stimulate the dark/robust winter crowd. As stated above, no cloying, and finishes very well. Great effervescence, which without, may not stimulate the tastebuds, and pluck the spicy tones involved.

D: To kick off either the spring or the fall, few things would be better. Encapsulates the best of a belgian wit, while retaining a fair bit of the fruity, zestiness of their flagship unfiltered wheat. Well done again, BLVD.

Poured in a tulip class from 750mL bottle.

A: pours a light orange to straw color with a nice head quickly settling patchy lace.

S: Citrus and spice at first, but a swirl reveals almost a pear or apricot kind of sweetness.

T: Zest. Bright lemon and orange zest. Crisp and fruity yet tart and tangy.

M: tight carbonation and malty body but lacking some for the whites that I have experienced and would compare it to.

D: Not one that I would finish the entire bottle, but definitely would share it with friends on a hot Oklahoma summer day.

Smell: There's a slight funk in the nose at first, but then the spices come through, then the citrus, and the Belgian yeast.

Appearance: Pours a great yellow-amber color, with an initial head of about 1/2" into my goblet--thinning down to a very thin layer of foam along the top. Little to no lacing is apparent.

Taste: First thing to hit on the palette is the citrus--lemon, and oranges. Then the cardamom and coriander come through and help even things out. Finally the Belgian yeast swings in to make it all smooth.

Mouthfeel: Great small champagne bubbles give this a great crisp and clean mouthfeel.

Drinkability: This one could be dangerous. There is no obvious presence of the alcohol, and it has such a great finish that one could drink this all night.

Overall impressions: Boulevard's Smokestack series hits another homerun with this beer. Their special releases always seem to be "A" worthy.

A- The beer after pour was a hazy dark gold, and poured into a goblet like glass gave a great head to it.

S- Being cold it did not have much smell, but as it warmed you could smell the orange, and warmer yet Jasmine came out and became a very floral bouquet

T- A sharp bitterness that left quickly and the double wit was instantly apparent. Left a very crisp nice taste that left me finishing the bottle.

M- The great carbonation left a frothy feel and could easliy taste around the palate.

D- Very smooth but a bit on the boozy side, great beer.

Poured from a bomber.
Wow! It looks, smells and tastes great. It reminds me of Blanche De Bruxelles but much more robust. Bubblegum, bananas, lemon all in here with an overall slight tartness. Everything is very well balanced. I love the lemony aftertaste.
I can't believe this is 8% abv. I've probably had over 200 different beers in the past 4 years. And never have I encountered a beer that masks a high abv like this one. I'm tasting none of the alcohol, though, I am feeling some of it... :-)
I'd probably give this a 4.75 across the board. However, since I can't I tried to approximate it in my scores. I wouldn't give any beer a perfect score, only a near perfect score for my very favorites.
This is a great effervescent beer. It makes my top 10 list of too close to call beers.
The first chance I get I'm heading back to where I bought this and cleaning their stock of 2 jokers out.

Kinda scared, couple of friends had this and said it sucked.

Pours a hazy orange with a three finger head that is gone in seconds. Hmmm, not a good start for a wheat based ale.

Aroma is almost herbal with a small amount of citrus and quite a bit of corriander. The fruityness from the yeast is very evident.

Flavors of citrus and grains of paradise hit right up front. Sharp zesty fruit and a very complex spice follow through. Carbonation is med-high and makes this very refreshing. You would never guess the 8% ABV if you did not know before hand.

Overall a fairly pleasing brew. Not sure what my buddies were expecting but it is a pretty well crafted beer. If anyone has had Boulevard ZON, don"t worry, this is actually good.

Poured into glass and had very good head. Light coppery color. The smell has fruity distinctions, specifically pear and apricot. Beer is highly carbonated and is very fruity. The bitterness is acidic probably from orange peel and as mentioned on the label a lactic fermentation. No real flavor or smell of hops noted. No distinct flavor of sweetness or malt noted. I wish there would have been more flavor/spice from corriander or malt sweetness to balance the bitter fruit. Drinkability is good and beer has slight warming character. Overall not a bad beer but lacks some characteristics that I enjoy in Belgian Wits.
