American Double / Imperial IPA |  8.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round. bottle (662), on-tap (9)

Notes:
The classic India Pale Ale is a traveler’s beer, aggressively hopped to withstand the long, hot ocean voyage to the British East Indies. Our Double-Wide I.P.A. also travels well, and is right at home in the most exotic ports of call of the Midwest. While this modern-day prairie schooner may not resemble a graceful sailing sloop, our liberal hopping regimen does make her virtually “twister-proof,” with toffee and caramel notes balancing out the lingering bitterness. Enjoy this beer fresh to best appreciate the complex blending of hop aromas, ranging from minty to citrusy, with subtle hints of pine.

12 oz brown bottle into... whatever you call the new Flying Dog glass. Best before 1/27/13

Appearance: Pours a hazy burnt copper. Nice two finger beige colored head. Great retention and some sticky lacing throughout.

Aroma: Has a bright citrusy hop aroma. Apricot, orange, pine and tobacco. Toasty biscuity malt.

Taste: Not quite like the aroma would lead on. Malts are unexpectedly present throughout and provide a solid backbone and balance. That being said, plenty of pungent piney and citrusy hops. Some herbal earthy flavor going on. The ornage and apricot flavors are there. It's a fairly standard but well-made DIPA

Mouthfeel: Medium body with smooth carbonation. Somewhat dry.

Was a more malt-heavy DIPA than I typically prefer but it's also a well-crafted DIPA without many flaws.

A-Clear amber orange, two finger head, leaves some lacing.

S-Malt, caramel, some dirt and grass, not as much hops as I was expecting.

T-Starts malty with caramel, then dirt and grassy hops. Milt citrus hops and mild bitterness.

M-Medium bodied, nicely carbonated and some hop resins.

O-Not as aggressive for a DIPA as I'd like, the bottle was fresh, but it needed some more hops.
