Notes:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.
Our first new year-round beer since 1996, Lunar Ale is in a category all its own. Brewed using a unique aromatic yeast, this refreshing variety is best described as a cloudy brown ale with a complex, malty aroma and flavor, and a crisp, dry finish.

served from 12oz. bottle into a New Belgium globe glass.
Pours a nice, rustic-looking brown with plenty of creamy white head that dissipates to a nice ring. Average lacing.
Malty smell; plenty of sweetness. Phenolic banana aromas all over the place; specifically a lovely banana bread smell comes out the more the beer warms.
Taste follows the nose. Sweet, sweet malts. You can definitely tell that this is a wheat beer, though. The banana flavor is really nice. Cloves come through, too.
Average mouth feel, maybe a little thick for a wheat beer. Its very drinkable; a great choice to session if one digs the flavors.
I think this beer is an awful lot better than most people. Lunar is a wheat beer, and its flavor complexities make it my 1st choice whenever I want a wheat beer. It's a good choice to match with a lot of food. Lunar is just plain solid.

Appearance: Deep mahogany, before a strong light, there are ruby highlights and crystal clarity. The head is small, off-white and retains moderately well. Thin, glass-coating lace adorns the glass walls.
Aroma: Strong, fresh baked bread aroma dominates the aroma. Dark caramel notes are also present., as well as a subtle cocoa note.
Taste: Wheat malt is fairly strong at the open, I was hopeful of finding fruity esters, particularly banana, but these seem to be absent. Pleasant dark bread notes carry the taste from start to finish, although there is little else. There is a faint blush of herbal hops at the close.
Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, rather pleasant.
Drinkability/notes: Pleasant and drinkable, not outstanding, but not bad, either.
Presentation: Packaged in a short twelve ounce brown glass bottle with a twist-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.
