Notes:
The intense flavors of dark-roasted malt in Boulevard’s rendition of the classic English porter are perfectly balanced by a generous and complex hop character. Bully! Porter’s robust nature makes it the ideal companion to a variety of foods, from seafood to chocolate.

A - Very dark with ruby highlights and a tan head that is HUGE! The head finally starts to die after a few minutes but clings all over the sides of the glass.
S - Dark roasted barley and a distinct earthiness.
T - A fair amount of hops in this porter, more than I would typically expect. A bit of sweet malt witha hint of chocolate.
M - Smooth but big bodied and almost chewy.
D - A bit too hoppy for my tastes but all in all not a bad porter.

12 oz. bottle, with best by date of 06/17/2013. My sixth and final beer to try from the Boulevard sampler twelve pack.
Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.
A - Two fingers of fluffy tan head on top of a dark dark brown, almost black colored body. Ruby hue when held to the light. Not amazing looking for a porter. Big sheets of thin wispy lacing.
S - Smell is of roasted coffee beans, bittersweet chocolate, and toasted malts. An underwhelming smell for a porter, also.
T - Light coffee bean roast, chocolate, & hops in the background. Nothing too out of the ordinary for a porter, just not as intense and defined as some better examples of the style.
M - Carbonated, medium bodied, with lingering coffee bean / hop bitterness in the finish.
Overall, another decent year-round beer from Boulevard, but nothing extraordinary, and not breaking any new ground. Nicely balanced, and well-made, a beer well worth trying. One of the better offerings from the Boulevard variety pack.

The liquid is a very dark brown color with a lofty tan colored head with rocky bubble formations.
Smells of dark chocolate, molasses with a hint of coffee and some herbal hop aroma. The taste is full of roasted malt and bitter coffee grinds, brown sugar and the finish has a nice pine hop flavor. It has a medium body with sparkling carbonation and a slightly dry finish.
Solid porter in my opinion, it has a nice range of flavor and I wouldn't mind knocking back a few more.

Appearance: Deep mahogany brown, crowned with a massive, dense tan head, which excellent retention. Belgian-style lace adorns the glass walls.
Aroma: Roasted malt and smoky notes dominate the aroma. There is a very modest herbal hop aroma.
Taste: Opens with a fairly intense wave of roasted malt, and bitter cocoa. These flavors carry throughout the taste. Late in the taste, there is a slightly acidic cold coffee flavor, and a substantial charcoal presence. Finishes with a lingering burnt note.
Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, very pleasant, with a little stinging carbonatoin.
Drinkability/notes: A very nice, drinkable example.
Presentation: Packaged in a short, twelve-ounce brown glass long-neck bottle with a pry -off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Appearance- This brew is dark and beautiful, yielding dark amber hues when help up to the light but mostly black. Thick smooth head forms when poured.
Smell- Biscuity and malty in nature, the smell hints at the chocolaty delight to come. Aroma also hints at nuttiness.
Taste- Amazingly complex flavor here, mostly chocolate maltiness but some swigs reveal fruityness. Just the right amount of bitterness for this type of brew. Extremely well balanced with rich body. It glides across the tongue.
Overall this is an amazing brew that can be drank anytime of day. It was a perfect breakfast choice and now as I drink it late at night it shows its appeal there too. I would highly recommend this brew as an example of the quality beer that Boulevard puts out. Thanks Boulevard!

Pours dark brown with a tan foam head. No retention, spotty lace.
Coffee, dark roasted malt, some cocoa, and even a little maple in the nose. As the brew settles, chocolate becomes very pronounced.
Malt first, with coffee and some dark sweet notes. Clears to a moderate bitterness, with long lingering bitterness and a pucker at the finish. In the middle of all of that is some brown bread and a little touch of tartness.
Medium bodied, astringent -- which is a a bit odd for this style. Mouth dries out, and makes you want a glass of water, not more beer.
Overall, good brew. Tasty and enough complexities to enjoy more than one.
