Atmosphere was basically a large cafeteria trying to be a sportsbar, the table we got seated had a view of zero tv's so fail as a sportsbar.
Service was indifferent to incompetent, our waitress was mostly indifferent, didn't know anything about the beerlist (what's an abt12? ) and gave us the wrong beer twice. The beer had a great selection but overall the place didn't make me want to stay.
We tried to go to brickskeller (closed) and came here instead. Totally dissatisfied and won't come back.

Ok, This place is linked to the brickskeller and has some distinct advantages over it as well as having some detractors.
Quality: They bring a very clean fun environment to you and they offer a lot in the way of beer with a 20 tap list coupled with a list of bottles.
S: Usually gets pretty crowded but the staff is very helpful.
Selection: They have a large selection and it really helps that they print a new list every day. They have a cask usually and a great rotation of happy hours so you can try something on the cheap.
Food: Good basic food but its a little overpriced.
Value: This place is a little more expensive and is usually crowded with a lot more tourists. I like what they have but I feel I get more value else where.

This is probably my favorite place to go in DC. My friends and I try to make it a habit of going here 2-3 times a month if possible. Bad Habit?
Its definitely a sports bar atmosphere. They have a ton of TV's and try to have a couple of different things on. It can get pretty noisy and crowded quick, especially on Fri/Sat nights and after a Capitols/Wizards game due to the fact that its located right next to the Verizon Center. If you can, try to go during the day, and it should be pretty manageable. The crowds are really my only gripe about this place.
Service isn't terrible. They try to be quick but when busy, they can get bogged down. Relatively knowledgeable about selection and try to be helpful. Selection is awesome. Around 300 bottles, 30 rotating taps, and they have at least one cask going at a time, sometimes two. The food also isn't terrible. Typical sports bar menu. Burgers are large and pretty filling and my friend swears by the crab pretzels. Definitely a decent place to go to try beer and get into classic barguments with friends!

The best thing about RFD is the selection. They have 25 or so beers on tap and 300 bottles, with a lot of good stuff.
I would say the atmosphere is that of a sports bar since there are TVs all over the place showing sports. I've been there multiple times and the table service is pretty good. It is a good place to go and get a table and just hang out and have some nice beers and talk with friends, as well as a good place to start the night off with a good beer or four. The food is typical bar food, nothing great but not bad. Overall it's a good place to go to try different beers and one of the largest beer selections in the city, so I would recommend checking it out. If I'm going out in Chinatown for the night I like to do here first and have a few nice beers.

This is a pretty solid place. Went here over Thanksgiving weekend. It's pretty much your typical sports bar with TVs and BMC signs and everything, except they actually have a very good beer selection. Ambiance is average - could be good if a game is on. Selection is good. They have a nice list of taps, probably 25 or so, with some interesting stuff. They have "tasters" available for a reasonable price where you can get approximately 5oz of a beer. Being the ticker that I am, I was all over this like a hound dog on a pack of Snausages. I got Southern Tier Raspberry Porter, Avery DuganA, Flying Dog Horn Dog, Weyerbacher Golf, and a couple others. Think they had a couple hundred bottles available too. Prices aren't bad for the area. Food is your typical bar food, but from what I remember, it was pretty good. Like the governator says, "I'll be back."

Stopped in prior to a Caps game (they trounced the Panthers 6-2) to check out the selection and grab a burger. Sat at the bar and received great service from a variety of staff members. Good selection of all styles, to include a Scottish cask ale. Prices ranged from $6 per pint to a $15 Lambic (12 oz), and everything in between. Kinda weird there was no Happy Hour pricing, but since the selection was good, the service was good, and the place was hoppin', I can overlook that.

big concrete-floored sports bar, kinda musty and without much of an atmospheric appeal, there's a big bar and lots of tables spread about, visited twice on weekends - very crowded earlier in the night, thinning out a little later
both the draft and bottle lists offer some quality choices, if without anything particularly obscure or sought-after - would be a nice place to catch a match but that's likely to be my only occasion for a visit, acceptable representation of breweries, styles, and regions, all served in standard pints
service has been fine - no gripes and no raves

Popped into this place a couple of weeks ago to watch some college football. The place was nice, pretty empty. My wife and I ordered an appetizer (calamari) and it was completely disgusting. The squid was completely over cooked and rubbery. We didn't eat any of it and eventually our waiter took the plate away, he didn't ask us how we liked it or expressed any concern that we didn't eat any of it, I was really annoyed. We rolled the dice again and split a burger, which was fine. It was cooked meat, hard to screw up, nothing special, just a burger. If I go back, I'm not sure I will order food, I'll put it that way.
The beer though, a nice rotating selection of draft beer and a bunch of beers in bottles. I had several draft beers, Magic Hat, DFH, Bells, even Founders. I was impressed. I also liked that the menu had what would be replacing the keg once it was out. It was a lot of information and it was really really cool. Good beer, bad food. Sorry RFD.

Got over 6 beers with my buddy. So many to choose from , so little time and money. =) My biggest gripe about this place though was that when you were given a clean beer glass , it was warm , I prefer to chill my glasses in the freezer , or even just a fridge for that matter. But overall , I am definaly going back.
We found this place by accident , by just walking around and looking for a spot just to have a beer , and move on to someplace else. We were just looking to beer hop that night , which is what we still kinda did. But this is my new haven for beer.

Went here twice while I was traveling to DC, once with a small group (6) the next time with a large group (~15). Here's my summary:
Lows: Atmosphere. Nothing special. Loud. Could be any nondescript sports bar. Waitstaff's knowledge of beers on menu was disappointing. My personal feeling is that if you're going to work in a place that caters to beer aficionados, know something about what's on the menu. At least, know what you like. I felt like the staff was reading from a script when I asked them about some of the drafts.
Highs: Nice selection of drafts, local and non-local. Food was better than I expected. Outside of beer knowledge, service was very good (i.e., my glass did not go empty). Within walking distance of the convention center.
Would I go back? Sure. I'd like to sit at the bar next time, though, to get a feel for the bar staff's take.
