Shared this 750ml bottle over some great shrimp and grits, pairing went well but maybe something less dry and more buttery would have gone better. Poured a gorgeous gold with a nice head that stayed put almost the whole way through.
Well pronounced smells of yeast, citrus, clove and flowery hops.
The taste follows the nose with a bit more spice and a little bit of alcohol warmth in the finish. Hops are present and kicking but well balanced by everything else going on. Some bitter grapefruit which became more pronounced as I drank more.
Mouthfeel is very nice. Medium carbonation, maybe high for a pale ale, and you hardly feel the 9.5%. Bitterness is there but not at all offputting.
Not much into pale ales but thought I'd give this one a try being of the Belgian persuasion, glad I did. I wouldn't seek it out again because it is still a little bitter for my taste but definitely worth the try.

look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5
Appearance: Cotton foam with a thin ring of lacing as the foam disappears. Gold color.
Smell: Lemon, grapefruit, and sourdough. Very light for a strong ale.
Taste/Mouthfeel: Plums, raisins, and some licorice. Excellent spritzy feel combined with a full-bodied mouthfeel that is surprisingly heavy for a light-hued beer.
Overall Drinkability: Better than Ommegang Abbey.
Serving type: on-tap

a: This was a slightly hazy, somewhat dark golden color. It poured with a thick, creamy head that left behind lots of lace.
s: Big, yeasty esters of slightly earthy bananas. Bright, fresh, sugary tropical fruit and bready grains. Some peppery yeast emerged as it warmed.
t: Sweet tropical fruit early, getting pretty sugary toward the middle. Drier, yeasty finish; peppery, light barnyard.
m: Soft and lush.
o: Another very good beet from Ommegang. No surprise there. Not quite up among my favorites from them, but knocking on the door for sure.
