The Belgian-Scotch brewing connection dates to WWI, when thousands of Scotsmen spent years in Belgium. To satisfy the new customers, Belgian brewers learned to brew lighter "Scotch" style ales. This fine Ommegang ale uses heather tips and a wee bit of smoked malt to bring the taste and aroma of Scotland to the forefront. "Malty, full body, dark, slightly smoky, with heather notes. Flavorful and aromatic, with a gentle complexity and easy-going finish."

Beer shows a deep rich chocolate color. Very brown. The head is nice and big with an off-white color to it.
It smells of rich malt aromas with a slight bitterness smell on it and a smell of slight sweetness.
The taste is very rich and thick of chocolate malt. The Belgian carbonation helps to keep it light on the tongue and probably mask a few flavors as well. There is a slight raisin flavor to it. I'm sure it will change as it warms. There's a marshmallow hint coming in now too.
This is a great cold weather beer. The mouthfeel is not drying and slightly sweet. I'll be going back for this one again for sure.

A - Pours an incredibly murky dark brown with touches of dark ruby. Forms a half finger of quickly dissipating light tan head.
S - Literally smells like you mixed a high quality Belgian tripel or quad with a scotch ale.
T - Exactly as it smells.
O - A damned good and interesting take on the scotch style. V - Good.
