Authentic Flemish sour red ale brewed in Belgium at Bockor Brewery and imported to the US. The beer is spontaneously-fermented and aged at least 18 months in French oak casks. It's an unblended "grand cru-style" Flemish sour red ale. Draft only, and an amazingly pleasurable drink.

Had on tap at Capital Ale House in Fredericksburg. I was excited to try this as I love the Rodenbach Grand Cru and this one is a similar style. Supposedly aged in oak for 18 months.
Color was reddish brown. Powerful aromas of sour cherry, cranberries, and other tart fruits. That tart fruit taste dominates the palate, also hints of vanilla and baking spices. Lots of sour fruit flavor but of course that's the style.
The oak aging gives the beer a denser and creamier mouthfeel than is typical for beer, even other Flanders red ales. Very rich on the palate makes it a slow sipper, which leads to drinkability. This style of beer is very high in acidity which turns some people off if your palate isn't into that. What I will say is that I think this makes a wonderful beer to pair with food, even if you're not big on the taste by itself. I had it with a burger and thought it was great.

Pretty beer, red, bright, 1/4" off white head. Aroma had lots of wood, what seemed like a medley of berries.
Hit the cherry and sour notes prominently. The sour wasn't overly acetic like in some flanders stuff, hit the wood and clean lactic sour spots. Nothing sugary here.
Well made, I wonder why they don't anymore? Had the sourness of an American, and the oak of Europe.

2008 vintage. On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a snifter. White head, low retention on a clear mahogany body. Aroma jumps out of the glass and includes tart cherry, tart green apple, slight malt sweetness, some port. Taste follows closely with the aromas and is maybe the most mouth puckeringly tart beer I've ever head. Quite satisfying and very delicious. Wow.
