Got as a gift in the variety pack for Christmas.
Finally got to this one tonight.

Had after dinner with some chocolate cupcakes.

Poured into a tulip glass. Immediate foamy head, evenly distributed over the top of the glass, about 2 fingers, remained for quite a while at each pour.

Very dark. I can barely trace the chocolate smell though, I am getting a very Belgian yeast/malt that almost overpowers the chocolate.

It is a strong tasting Belgian dark, full bodied and it does have a good stout-like flavor to it.
However it is indeed lacking in the chocolate aspect as many reviewers have also noted.
Compared to the Rogue Chocolate Stout, the double as well, it's severely lacking in this area.
I almost wish they just stuck with the Belgian dark because based on the description, it's lacking. Maybe more of a bitter, almost bakers chocolate?

But it is a good beer nonetheless. Once I got past the tough smell, the beer is enjoyable. It is a hefty ABV that is quite noticeable as well.

Ommegang does good work, but this one is a bit lower than I would expect.
Again, good, just not great as expected.

Tonight's after diner beer for American Craft Beer Week. Ommegang brewery in Cooperstown New York. A Belgium Style Stout with dark roasted malt and actual Belgian Chocolate added to it. A very smooth a creamy beer with a slight bitter coffee/chocolate finish.

Split bottle with a buddy after hauling a freaking huge patio umbrella home.

A - Black pour with a brown fizzy foam. Lacing is in thin rings on the glass.

S - Scents of plums, chocolate and licorice.

T - Flavor ranges from sweet chocolate, to tangy berries and yeast, and some mocha notes.

M - Very drinkable. Some carbonation. For a Belgian dark it is very sessionable.

O - Impressed. I got this as part of a gift pack and I'd grab this again.
