I see where w/o picture the next Spanish Peaks beer listed is Black Dog English Style Amber Ale - which has only one review.
This label, which is a direct match to the beer shown here calls itself an English Style Amber Ale so I am not sure how or why all the ratings are in the category of American Amber Ale.
Anyway onto the rating:
Poured a red amber color with a frothy head with some big but tight bubbles and good brussels lacing.
While the head retention was only average a simple quick swirl replenishes more ample foamy head.
The aroma at first pour is hoppy but as this beer settles the sweet malty smells of caramel and toffee prevail over the hops and some hints of pine nuts.
Mouth feel is full bodied and smooth with very little after taste.
This beer was a pleasant surprise and I will buy some more

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium reddish amber with a thin off-white head that dissipated quickly to a ring around the glass and patchy foam. Aroma of biscuit and light toasted malt, with a hint of hops. Flavor is light toasted and biscuit malt, mild bitterness and finishes with brown sugar and malt with a slight unfortunate metallic hint. Light to medium bodied. The flavors are somewhat subdued, but very pleasant and the flavor progression is nice. I'd like to see a bit more aggressive flavors, but this is a well made and pleasant to drink light red / amber ale. The bottle calls this an English style amber and I have to agree that the flavors and subtleness reminiscent of a well made English beer.

Poured from a bottle into a smaller class at the Courtyard Marriott in Culver City, Calif. About 1 ½ fingers of head. Color was a beautiful reddish brown, maybe mahogany. Good-looking film on the sides. Healthy and long lasting.

Smelled dark chocolate up front. Also some toffee malts, caramel and a little biscuit. Seemed pretty fake.

Initially tasted butter, which drops each time I have it. Where did it come from? Some chocolate and caramel in there as well.

Medium body. Average carbonation. Creamy texture. Smooth finish.

Pretty average beer. Stay away.
