The first taste is like one of those chocolate covered yellowish-center mini donuts that you'd find in the deli section of your grocer. Kind of a dark chocolate with a little vanilla hint, and you certainly know you're drinking a beer. Sweet, a bit burnt, but that compliments here with the sugars. Those are some nice dark malt grains there - with a touch of earthiness and sharpness. This tastes good.

Creamy flavor , but not a creamy texture. Mouthfeel is definitely a bit light.

Hard to say anything except 'well done'. Maybe a little too straightforward and unoriginal, but I could easily down a few of these with a big smile on my face. I like this much better than its' high gravity brother.

I'm quite impressed, but for the price, I should have been!

For less Money I'd surely reach for Edmund Fitzgerald Porter if it's available in your area, but this selection is to be enjoyed and shared. Thumbs up.

I'd like to let the next one warm up a bit to see if that brings out anything that would keep this from being such a safe entry, and make it great instead of just really good. Dunno if anything is hiding in there though. It might ease what at cold temp seems like an ever-so-slightly-overdone carbonation - which may be the only legitimate brew gripe about this entire beer... it is, in that regard, and shamefully, near-flawless.

the oiliness makes up for a thinner mouthfeel, the sweetness is expected given the style, but this isn't very complex or original and it might be slightly over-carbonated at cold temps with a little head compared to some serious brothers in the catagory. Good easy drinkin beer though.

As a lefty myself, I like this brewery's name, and I love the hands-on-cow graphic on the label.

Poured into a tulip glass from the 12 oz. bottle.

a. As black as a stout ever gets. The thick inch plus tan head shrank slowly to a dense surface foam film with loads of lacing. The head on this sucker is outstanding. Looking good!

s: Dark malty goodness!

t: Stout leaning to porter. Not as strictly malty as I like my stouts to be, but so many stouts today seem to have that roasty hop porterness. I really enjoy a good porter, but if I want a low hop stout like I was hoping this would be, I want to taste the malt!

m: Smooth for a porter, not as velvety as a really good stout can be. I'm thinking of my local brewer just down the road, who makes a great milk stout that is my personal gold - er dark brown standard.

o: Similar in taste to the Avery Out of Bounds Stout I had and reviewed recently, but a little more stoutly. And more carbonation. I'd take this one over Avery's, although at least in my area Avery's price point deserves the A it gives itself on their labeling. $1.25 is always better than $2 if you are the buyer, especially if you are part Scottish.
