Poured into a pint glass.

Color is deep black, slightly brown when held up to the light. Thick brown head, that leaves great lacing.

Aroma is of smoked/roasted malts along with slight grassy hops. Some chocolate as well.

Taste is of smoked almonds. Chocolate flavored. The grassy hops become more present. Finally, a burnt caramel taste is noted.

Mouthfeel is a little bitter at first from the hops, but then it becomes smooth and creamy. Full bodied. Decent amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a very easy to drink for a stout. I could easily enjoy a few of these. This is a must try if you are into lighter stouts.

Pours a soft, dense head that is tan. Bright floral hops burst with a touch of toasted malt. Black. Starts a bit tart but rich and toasted. Moves into a slight metallic twinge as the floral hops bring up bitterness. Finish is nice, toasted malt. There's a slight almost astringent aspect hidden around.

This isn't too bad. A bit thinner than I like my stouts, and the metallic/astringent quality isn't my favorite.

Actually, seeing this is a "Sweet stout" makes it jump a good half a point in score...though I'm not huge on sweet stouts.

Take my score with a grain of salt. I have zero idea what a "London Sweet Stout" should taste like, hahah

Packaging: 12 oz. brown bottle, pry-cap
Glassware: Tulip pint
Purchased: Received in a trade

Pours black in color with some ruby highlights. A nice tan head of large bubbles leaves good lacing behind and shows a fair amount of retention.

Aromas are big of chocolate, plus roasted and malty notes. Overall the smells are malty sweet, with some minor wood and licorice influences.

Taste is sweet and smooth, like milk chocolate, with toasted grains followed by earthy English hops.

Creamy mouthfeel with a low carbonation. Medium-bodied, the finish is malty and has flavors of chocolate and a little bit of roasted grains.

Overall a very tasty and easy-drinking stout -- recommended.

Thanks to fLax for this one!

A: Dark brown, one shade lighter than black. Smaller beige head. Okay retention. Decent lacing.

S: Sweet roasted malts. Chocolate, coffee and some cream in the mix too. Smells a lot like a light roasted coffee with lots of cream, sugar and some coco in it.

T: Nice roasted malt flavor. Some coffee, a bit astringent. Milk chocolate. Good balance of roast and sweet.

M: Medium body. Average to lower carbonation. Fairly smooth.

O: A really nice english stout. Good drinkability. Looks like it's a style not made very often and Schells won't be making this any longer as well. Glad I got to try it before it's retired.

Appearance: Completely opaque black with a thin brownish head.

Aroma: Dark roasted malt. Light on aroma though.

Taste: Very dark roasted malts, some chocolate. An aftertaste of coffee-like bitterness.

Mouthfeel: A little spike of carbonation but pretty smooth. Not as drying on the palate as I expected. Very drinkable.

Final Thoughts: This is my first time trying this particular offering from Schell's, and I like it. It definitely doesn't rank with the best stouts I've had but it is pretty decent overall. It goes down smooth and leaves you with just enough flavor left on your tongue to make you want more. Would love to try this on a nitro-tap.

12oz bottle with no date into mason jar

Look is a dark, almost black, brown with a small mocha head. Smell is light; roasted malts, chocolate, roses. Taste is crisp and refreshing, fading into more savory roasted tones. Cocoa powder, dark coffee, oak, grains, and there's hop presence but no real hop flavor. Medicinal bitterness in the finish.

Reasonably priced stout that was very tasty.
