Notes:
Originally brewed in 1984, Schell's Pils is a shining example of the true European Pilsner style beer. Brewed with 100 percent barley malt, where the Sterling Hop flavor is showcased. Its full hop characteristic and delicate aroma were developed in Pilsen, Bohemia around 1840. This style was widely copied by early American breweries. Over the years, however, it has been lost to the much lighter-bodied, low-hopped relatives we refer to as American "Premium Category" beer.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy bright yellow. White head. I'm actually surprised by the cloudyness since a true pilsener should be completely translucent.
Aroma: Bread/hops/yeast. Not particularly great.
Taste: Pretty clean. Little bit of hops at the beginning and some pale malt throughout. Good amount of bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Almost refreshing at first but the drinkability went way down as it warmed up.
Final Thoughts: I actually thought this beer was pretty average for a pilsener. It was much tastier when I had it on-tap a few months ago though.

Poured into pilsener glass.
A Transparent amber. Thick white head slowly dissipates and leaves a thin lacing down the glass. Some bubbles rise from bottom.
S Nice wet grass/hay aroma. Malts. Peppery. Good zesty nose on it.
T Very surprised by the balanced extremes. Very hoppy and malty. Spicy/peppery wave. This taste remains.
M Light body. Fizzy and carbonated. Finishes nice and smooth.
O Good pilsener. Although not a staple of the style, I like the hit of hops. Clean and refreshing. Any fan of the style will dig Schell's Pils.

Pous a soft, white head that has decent persistence. Grainy, grassy aroma. Straw gold, with a slight haze. Starts almost tart, bright, and floral. Medium hop bitterness has a slight pine-grapefruit aspect as it peaks (this is a very quick flash), moves back into a more floral character as the malt comes through in the finish.
This is actually a really damn good pilsner. It's a bit more aggressive in the hopping than I am used to, but like any good Midwestern lager, it is still delicately balanced and refined. It is effervescent yet silky across the tongue, too!

A- Pale Straw with a delicate finger width of frost white foam dissipating to a thin lacing
S-Subdued aroma, slightly floral
T-Very clean malt flavor, appropriately balanced by hop bitterness. earthy hop flavor.
M-Cold, crisp and refreshing. Thin as per style
O- A very enjoyable pilsner. Not my favorite style but this was one of the better examples I've tasted. Clean and crisp without sacrificing flavor. Hint of malt sweetness balanced by earthy noble hop character.

Freshness: Best by 11-26-2012
Packaging: 12 oz. brown bottle, pry-cap
Glassware: Pilsner glass
Purchased: Received in a trade
Lots of bubbles fill my glass in the clear, straw-colored brew. Nice rocky white head of 2 fingers has very good retention and also some good lacing.
Aromas have sharp, grassy and hay notes. The taste has a light pilsner malt base, but is more about the grassy and slightly citrus hops. Has a moderate amount of bitterness.
Mouthfeel is highly carbonated with a light body. The aftertaste is somewhat bitter.
Pilsners are very interesting to me, but this is a fine representation from Schell's.
Thanks to fLax for this one!

A: Super clear pale yellow. Small white head. Lots of carbonation bubbles streaming up. Good, sticky lacing.
S: Light sweet pale malts, pilsner malts. A bit bready and a touch of spice and citrus.
T: Great balance. Semi sweet pilsner malts with lightly toasted grains and just a bit of spicy bitterness from the hops. Semi dry, crisp finish that makes you want to go back for more.
M: Lighter body. Higher carbonation. Smooth and crisp.
O: Great drinkability. A great german pilsner in my book. Schell's really knows how to brew their lagers.
