Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Vol. II Issue X:
Ruddy orange-brown color; the thin layer of sediment is left behind in the bottle to make sure it pours out perfectly clear. Decent head retention with ample stickage on the glass. Smells of sweet brown bread, light caramel and an ever-so-faint fig note. Slick medium body with a sufficient level of crispness to keep the beer lively. Clean and pleasant toasted bread character from start to finish really has a firm grip on the taste buds. Hops come in a little prickly as the bitterness slowly moves over the palate; quick herbal flavor leads to more of a mellow spicy note. Dry finish with a flash of toasted biscuit flavors and slight lemony hop.
For a beer style that has less wiggle room than others, this one is not only a benchmark beer for the style, but a stellar example as well. So clean and flavorful, each sip makes you want another.

0.5l brown bottle that was flown in fresh from Bavaria for the German Beer Fest! Bio/organic beer.
Pours a rich, dark brown colored beer with copper hues and a two-finger thick beige head that retains very well. Very pleasing malty nose that suggests sweet malts, with toasty breads, chicory, biscuits and honey. Mouthfeel is smooth, even, with a well-rounded consistency. Medium-bodied. Creamy carbonation, with a slight tonic-like crispness on the back-end. More toasty characters, with brown breads, hints of caramel and chocolate, fermented out honey, and some dextrin. Granola-like. Very light semi-citric smacking of hops and herbal note beneath. Fairly wet in the finish with plenty of toasty malts in the linger, eventually getting a bit dry with some biscuity/grain and hay-like tannins.
Neumarkter Lammsbräu is aiming to come into the US market in 2008. I really hope they export this beer as not only is this a great Dunkel, but it's a fantastic organic beer.

The label dons the "Bio" symbol which means it is organic under German law. The sample size is a .5L bottle that is poured into a plain beer mug. Sudsy tan head drops quick but the retention of the lacing is just fine, reddish brown hue flaunts a perfect clarity. Bready maltiness to start, mild grape skin, kiss of caramel and toasted malt in the aroma which come pleasant to the nose. The smoothness of this beer is out of this world, the medium body and moderate carbonation level make you want to take a sip quicker and quicker. Heavy handed with bready tones, toasted and mildly grainy with a faint hay-like flavor. Ample sweetness is balanced by a reserved hop bitterness. Faint grape skin flavor from the malt middle to end, solid dry maltiness in the finish. At 4.8% the alcohol stays in place, the palate is clean from start to finish with only a ghost faintness of cooked veggies (DMS).
I wish every German import would taste this fresh or at least close to it, a superb Dunkel that is extremely drinkable and packed with flavor. A beer Neumarkter Lammsbräu Dunkel is a real reason to visit Germany, not just the yearly fest in Munich.

Bottle pour at the BevMo Holiday Beerfest held at Golden Road Brewing in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours a clear orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and caramel. Taste is much the same with a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is pretty tasty and easy to drink.

This beer pours with a thick, shaving cream like head that sits on top for a very long time. 2.5 inch head settles half way in about 3 minutes, a light tan tint to the head and very rich consistent lacing down the glass during the slow settle. The color is that of a very strong southern iced tea. Very tannic in color with red hues when held to the light.
The nose is very rich as well with bready yeast being the dominant note along with vanilla and caramel, more specifically like caramelized sugar. The hops are very subtle and hardly notable to the nose.
The first impression of this beer is very classic and clean German artisan brewing. The beer is dry with great malt flavors and very subtle hops. This is not a beer for hop heads since you will not like it. However, if you are a fan of European brews and traditional German beers then this is a fantastic example of that tradition. I really like this one. I can feel the warmth of the alcohol in my stomach implying the higher ABV but it is completely masked by the flavors. This could be a dangerous beer because it is so good and drinkable you could become extremely hammered rather quickly. The mouth feel is light and smooth with lively carbonation that falls away to a slight bitter hopping that is superbly well balanced.
The flavors are rich. I let it warm a bit to really let the flavors come out. Initially sweet malt with very subtle Smokey undertones, hints of black pepper, bread, caramel, bitter herbs, and fresh mountain spring water are all there in a wonderfully balanced beer.
Overall this is an extremely good beer and I really would love to drink some more at any time.

Pours a dark ruby brown with tons of light tan head. Sticky lacing everywhere. Head doesn't dissipate much at all.
Aroma is a bit skunky. Dark fruits, freshly baked bread. Overall sweet, but not much else.
Starts a bit watery, then has a very nice easy going flavor. Lots of sweet dried cherry flavor blended with bread. Little hop bitterness briefly breaks up the sweetness.
Mouthfeel is thin and watery. Very easy to drink.
Overall a pretty good brew, but I think it wasn't as fresh as I'd liked it to be, hence the skunk smell. Great flavor and drinkability though.
