Poured into a glass mug. Pours caramel brown with a soapy tan head. There are a moderate about of visible bubbles rising in the beer. I pick up aromas of roasted malts and some caramel sweetness that is almost chocolately in nature. The Munich malts come through well in the taste, bringing some nice breadiness to the table. There's some nice background sweetness that does remind me of chocolate. There's some hop bitterness in the back end, but mostly just for balance. The body is light to medium with moderate carbonation. The finish is crisp, but not clean. Some of that aftertaste does linger. The drinkability is high. This is an excellent beer and a fine example of a dunkel.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pilsner glass. Had a brown color and a clear consistency. There was an inch and a half of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Great lacing.

S: A kind of weak aroma of malt, caramel and that's about it.

T: Like the smell, the taste was pretty one-dimensional: Malt, caramel, and little else. This is a thin, watery flavor without much going on.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a somewhat thin finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This is an unfortunately mediocre beer that I forgot about the second I finished it.

Reutberger Export Dunkel has a thick, off-white head, and a dark, clear, copper appearance, with some streaming bubbles. The aroma is very sweet and malty, and it has almost a cane syrup aspect. Taste is medium-roasted, sweet, syrupy barley malt, a bit of turned fruit, and a slight hop bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Reutberger Export Dunkel finishes crisp, refreshing, and highly drinkable. Overall, this is an excellent beer.

Appearance: Bright brown with ruby red undertones. No head. Medium opacity and light bubbles.

Smell: Coffee. Nuts and dark fruits. Date. Apricots and wheat.

Taste: Maple syrup, tobacco and tart cherry. Chocolate finish with a lingering fruity sweetness. Unique array of roasted malt flavors. Bittering hops in the back give the beer a slight tingle.

Mouthfeel: Very carbonated, light but feel flavored.

Overall: A delicious high quality treat. Drinkable and full of flavor. My favorite Dunkel lager so far.

not a particularly chic style on BA for one reason or another still a great accompanyment with food. Pours like most every filtered german lager... Clear. Dark mahogany. Nose is predominantly toasty with a core meatiness of a mild sweet, as if an unsalted steak. Palate is toasty dry with a hint of fruit, not dessert like. Too dry to have a sweet side. Mineral clear finish. Notes of apple but grain foremost.

Would go well with buckwheat and liver sausage... Or pate at large.

Pours a mostly cloudy dark amber to brown with a light tan foamy head that was easily induced.

Smells of raisins and roasted malt.

The flavor is heavily malted with raisins and various berries. The profile is deep and hard to distinguish individual flavors, but enjoyable.

Medium body with light carbonation.

A pretty solid brew. The flavor is the high point of this brew which is by no means a bad thing. Worth giving it a try.

Poured from a half liter bottle into a pint glass. This beer is a clear copper color with a couple fingers of off-white head.

It has a nice roasted malt flavor, caramel and Munich malts probably. It has a pretty nice aroma in my opinion.

The taste is a lot of the same. Malty and roasted with definite caramel flavors.

A very nice drinkable tasty dunkel.

It poured a milk brown beer with a good slightly creamy head.
I smelled some residual sugar, caramel notes.
I tasted some sugar cane, malt, and a slight bitter hop at the finish. It was medium body and slightly creamy.
I would definitely drink again because it is a nice all around dunkel .

500 ml bottle. Pours dark red with an off-white, short lived head. Aroma is balanced between caramel malt and noble hops. Medium, smooth body. Grainy, caramelly, sweet malt is balanced on the palate by bitter, peppery hops. Long, dry, spicy finish. Nicely made dunkel.

A: Pours a medium brown with a solid white head no lacing.

S: Strong caramel smell, pastry.

T: Nice sweet dark malt, brown sugar with a nice bit of hops on the back end. Well balanced.

M: Medium-bodied, smooth, fairly long aftertaste, though it is a bit cloying.

O: A classic dunkel, very much to style. I'm not as in love with this beer as I was in 2006, but I still like it very much.

A: Copper with an off-white head, some retention, nice lace.

S: Grassy & floral aroma with underlying bread, caramel & nut.

T: Nice malt hop balance. Very nice breadyness, floral & grassy hopping with hint of herbal & peppery spice. Some underlying caramel & nut, a little mineral, gentle bitterness.

M: Moderate body has a slight residual sweetness.

D: A well-rounded, easy drinker.

An all around good brew that has traveled well. I'm sure it'd be great at the source.

Bottle from Gourmet Haus Staudt. No discernible freshness date on the bottle. 5.2% ABV.

Appearance: Clear dark brown, the color of crusty rye bread. Pours with a finger of fleeting off-white froth. While the head doesn't last long, it does leave surprisingly thick patches of lacing.

Smell: Nice breadiness on the nose, toasted and caramelized with a bit of raisin sweetness.

Taste/mouthfeel: Lighter than the nose implies, but still malt forward. Grainy and bready with a touch of earthy fruit and caramel sweetness that fades into a finish that brings to mind rye bread. Residual sugars are reigned-in, this is light and quaffable for a dunkel while remaining very flavorful.

Overall, a very good, very drinkable dunkel. Not quite on the level of, say, Weltenburger Kloster Dunkel, but pretty close.

Look - Darker red than I would have expected. But still a dark ruby color. Two fingers worth of foam that dissipates pretty quickly. Good carbonation.

Smell - Fairly wheaty smelling. Actually reminds me a nice piece of bread. Also a bit sweet smelling, but from a darker source like a grape.

Taste - More malty. I still taste something along the line of a sweet, darker fruit like he grape. Very easy on the palate and little aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - very smooth, good balance between watery and creamy in texture.

Drinkability - Probably the 2nd best Munich Dunkel that I've tried. Would love to sample this on tap. Easy to drink, and complex enough to really allow you to enjoy each sip.

Poured a light brown with a strong, frothy head that left lace down the glass on top of a bready, sweet malt smell along with a little hoppy dryness. Taste is more of the same as the malts are sweet and bready and more powerful than the hops but still a medium, slightly sticky body that passes over tongue and finishes with a bit of dryness. Not the most complex dunkel or anything but an enjoyable beer.

A: The beer poured clear dark amber in color with a medium-sized foamy head that is light beige in color. There is a moderate level of carbonation and a creamy layer of bubbles consistently covered the surface.
S: There is a moderate aroma of dark, caramel malts.
T: The beer has lots of caramel malty flavors and a slight amount of sweetness, but this is nicely balanced out by the underlying hops.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate with a perfect amount of carbonation.
D: It's relatively easy to drink but I can't see myself having more than one of these in a session given the lack of complexity in the taste.

I, too, had high hopes when seeing this 25 ozzer in the case at the bierkraft. The Reutberger has a dark nice malty nose with a frothy head. It's mild, decently balanced, maybe a quick banana hit in the flavor. It seems somewhat on the sweeter side than I'd prefer but is not cloying. Showing a little more grit as it warms. It's a good beer but it'd probably look for something else.

Ahh an abbey-brewed Munich Dunkel, I have high hopes. 500ml bottle.

Pours a nice orange/reddish brown with a nice foamy off-white head that stays awhile leaving behind intricate lacing as it recedes.

The smell is much bready and grainy than most. It has hints of rye bread, raisins, and dark sugar.

It is not as sweet as most Munich Dunkels and I like it alot. It is also hoppier on the palate than most which is a nice change of pace. It retains a lot of the breadlike qualities of the smell. All in all there could be more flavor (sweetness) here but the low sweetness makes it incredibly drinkable. This would be a killer summer beer.

Overall maybe an oddity for the style but a good one.

Aroma: Caramel notes right away. Pleasant light hop and malt odor. Euro hops, definitely not American.

Appearance: Light brown beer, off-white creamy head. Head falls fairly quickly with little lacing.

Flavor: First impression - caramel/munichl malt, medium low bitterness. not particularly sweet. Clean lager aftertaste with quickly dissipating bitter.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, lighter than Oktoberfests or Bocks.

Impression: Good German Dunkel with a distinct caramel character.

Drinkability: Good stuff.

From the upper Bavaria region, my first dunkel, a bit surprised at the flavors coming out of this beer for being supposedly all munich malt. Very nutty and fruity, like raisins. Looks great, almost bock-like in flavor, but not as boozy. Seems like it's decocted, but it's very slight profile if so. Maybe just a double-decoction and not triple. Definitely has some goodness going on, but has a surprisingly thin mouthfeel, maybe some roasted malt for the dark color (all munich wouldn't be this dark). Has a bit of a metallic aftertaste, but this beer is great. I could drink this for DAYS. Un-offensive, smooth, flavorfull, and not hoppy enough to get burnt out on. Good job.

Pours a cola color with a fairly dense khaki head that settles into an uneven cap. The aroma is of doughy roasted munich malt, honey and a light raisin sweetness. The taste is of slightly roasted malt, not very doughy as I had expected, slightly metallic, hints of wet wood. Even though it didn't really have the munich malt flavor, I found that the flavor was really nice. Moderate feel with tingly carbonation, finishes malty sweet. This is a real nice munich dunkel. Very tasty roasted malt flavor, slight hint of the munich malt to give some sweetness. Easy drinking brew, recommended.

500 mL bottle. Pours a nice umber/mahogany shade with a creamy beige head. Leaves some fine spotty lacing. Aroma is nutty with some fresh baked dark bread and caramel. Toasted grain flavor with sweeter toffee/caramel notes. A little bit of earthy character and a slightly metallic note on the finish. Light and dry, but could use more body. Finish is on the watery side. Smooth carbonation, easy to drink. Decent dunkel but not robust enough.
