Notes:
Sweetgrass APA is a Pale Ale of distinction! 2009 Great American Beer Festival Gold Medal winner in the American Pale Ale category, this crisp and fragrant beer is hopped and dry-hopped with plenty of Amarillos and Cascades. Try it with any bold, flavorful food to complement its citrusy, resinous spiciness.

Poured into a pint glass.
Pours a pale amber/copper with a decent finger and a hlaf head that disipates very quickly.
Smells very malty almost biscuity for an IPA. I bit of light flower aroma but very faint. Not a whole lot going on for the smell.
Taste was ok...way to malty. The hops kick more in the after taste. Its an odd feeling. Its a bit too sweet. NEED MORE BITTER.
Very thin and a a bit flat.
Decent if your just getting into IPA's and need a starter. This could be a nice camping beer.

The smell is surprisingly fresh yet very earthy. It's almost like you would walk down a gravel road, lined with vegetation, just a few minutes after it gently started to rain. It's very pleasant but not at all a road map for how the beer itself tastes like.
It has a surprisingly strong alcoholic taste up front, but fortunately, it quickly morphs into a bitter hops-extravaganza that keeps changing character for a good 10 seconds and finally rests on the tongue as a reminder you just drank something outside the norm. It features a bitterness that stays with you for a while and should most likely be consumed in a slow fashion.
Overall a pleasant beer, but not something I would go out of my way to recommend unless you are curious and running out of beers to test.

12oz bottle purchased from Berkeley Bowl West in Berkeley, CA.
Pours a pleasant, mildly hazed golden-orange colour, with a fine, soft head of white that sticks around in a film. Lacing is erratic, but forms pleasantly intricate patterns when it does form. Body is quite hefty, and holds fine carbonation when tilted. Overall, it looks good.
Crumbly lemon tart characters on the nose, some sweet-savoury malt characters and a clean but not pungent or sharp citrus hop aroma. It mellows after a while, maintaining a custardy lemon character, but gaining a slightly more yeasty tone. It's still decent.
Taste is light and clean, with a sharpness through the centre that provides a nice counterpoint to the base, which is broad and again sweet-savoury. Some prickly lemon characters and a metallic bite towards the back. Finish is long with hops, but pleasantly clean otherwise. Overall, it's pretty tasty.
Feel is good. Smooth and pleasant to balance the sharper characters.
Overall, this is a very solid and very tasty APA. It's less aggressive than an IPA, but with the genesis in crisp, biting hop flavours. This drives it forward and provides a very neat and very drinkable package.

Pours out a darker yellow and gold, nice 3/4" head on it. Aroma was super grassy, not so much hoppy.
Taste, maybe its just the name, but this really kicks down a sweet and grassy vibe. The hopping is relatively average, but the sweetness of the malt is really the dominant thing going on here. There's some grapefruit like flavor as well. Maybe some peel/rind. Lemongrass. Oftentimes, people describe a beer as dry. This is not. This is grassy wet, sweet and lightly tart.
The mouthfeel is almost sorachi ace like with the hops. A real small amount of caramel. Its not world changingly different, but the slight difference compared to many other hoppy pales is welcome, and makes for a relatively enjoyable beer.

From a 355 ml bottle (bottled February 26, 2013) into a globe glass.
A-An aggressive pour produces an orange-hued, pale golden colored brew. The brew is mostly clear, with some decent bubbles visible. The head is one finger of very-light-khaki foam that drops quickly. Some lacing left behind.
S-This is a pleasant smelling brew. I detect pine, spicy orange and tangerine from the hops, and light, toast from the malts. The nose is nicely balanced and slightly dank and earthy.
T-The taste isn't as robust as the smell. The hops lose some of their citrus and pine complexity, and the malts are more doughy than toasty and sharp. The result is more bitter and grainy, and the flavors get sort-of muddled.
M-The feel is medium to heavy for the style with a fine carbonation that lasts for a while on the palate. It is easily drinkable.
O-The mediocre taste is a bit of a letdown after the nice smell. That being said, this isn't a bad brew. It has a good balance of pale malts and fragrant hops with a pleasant feel that is slightly unique for the style.
