On tap at Monk's in Siouix Falls

One of the best Hefe's I've had.

Everything I like in a hefe is here....dominant flavors are banana and vanilla..also evident is bubblegum, and some light cloves..

The banana flavors are bright but not oversweet...the flavoring is perfect in that it has a nice flavor but doesn't overwhelm you...highly drinkable...thirst quencher....had this after running for 40 minutes in the humid Sioux Falls heat and it really hit the spot....

Would love to have a keg of this for the summer....right there with Ayinger, Weihenstephener, Paulaner...hard to say what is best

A Christmas present from my mother-in-law, 22oz swing top. Looks translucent goldish tan with a frothy white head. Smells of banana bread and medicinal esters with a ROCKIN sweetness to it. Taste is....WOW! Semi dry, biscuit-like but with notes of that banana bread and a clean finish just sharp enough to be really refreshing. Mouthfeel is carbonated and a tad sticky. This is hands down the best hefe I've ever had. Where has this been all my life? Pardon me while I have a moment alone with my new best friend.

Appearance: Cloudy golden sunshine tone with a large fluffy effervescent white head leaves scattered specks of lacing around my wheat beer glass. Aroma: Rich banana clove tones strong citrus scent ties it altogether with the yeast inspired tones with a finishing touch of Hallertau hops. Taste: Syrupy sweet banana finish wheat is sharply sweet the clove and citrus/tropical fruit tone is incredible one of the most impressive wheat beers I've tasted by far. Mouthfeel: Bubbly texture medium body to it fluffy and chewy nice sensations across the palate. Drinkability: Excellent, had Weihenstephaner on draft last night and I must say I like this one at least twice as much from the bottle good stuff.

A- Pours with a huge white head on a hazy golden body with just a little copper tone to it.
S- Really nice big up front wheat, ripe banana, clove, light straw, light grass hops, hint of peaches, and just a touch of lemon with caramel around it.
T- Just a really clean tasty well made hefe. Nice ripe bananas are up front and linger in the mouth. The wheat comes through blended in nicley, grass hops come out and leave a nice size bitterness on mid tongue. Peach seems to come out too. Nice clove flavor that really helps cut the malt body even more.
M-Medium body with a low carbonation to it. Nice smooth easy drinking feel.
D- Probably one of, if not the best, hefes I have tried. Just a great and well made beer. If your a fan of this style I would advise seeking it out.

Pours a beautiful cloudy orangey/golden color with a huge pillowy, creamy, white head that last forever and laces the glass rather nicely. Huge spicy aroma of cloves and some slightly more subtle pepper. There is a bit of fruitiness in the background but it is almost completely masked by the spiciness. The taste starts off very fruity with some great banana and some slightly orangish qualities to it before it fades into a nice spiciness in the middle of the brew before fading back to it's fruitiness and getting some big time banana flavors and then finishing nicely balanced flourish of fruitiness and spiciness. The mouthfeel on this one is a bit on the thin side but that is about the only thing wrong with this beer as it is still super creamy and refreshing and extremely drinkable. This may have just performed a coup on the throne of my favorite hefe. An absolutely excellent bier.

Soft, slightly musty aroma of wheat and lemon zest. Huge, bright off-white colored head is fed by a storm of bubbles rising through the hazy golden beer. It's got a soft bubblegum/banana flavor up front that is quickly joined by refreshing lemon and spicy hop notes. Even with all of the carbonation visible in the beer it still comes off as soft and full. A tasty beer that is incredibly refreshing and inviting.

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle into a weizen glass.

A: The beer is a cloudy and bright light amber color with a large white head that fades at a decent rate and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is strong with wheat and yeast, along with a touch of lemon & spice and a little bit of hops.

T: The taste is very well-balanced with flavors of wheat, lemon, banana, spice, hops and a light malt character. All of the flavors compliment each other and there isn't that skunky bite in the finish that can often occur in beers of this style. The after-taste is bready with a very mild sweetness.

M: Very crisp and very smooth, light-to-medium body, medium-to-heavy body, nice clean finish.

D: Very tasty, goes down extremely easily, not very filling, excellent representation of style, I could stick with this beer for quite a long time. This one is definitely one of the best that I've had in style.

500 mL bottle poured into weizen, three finger head

Light amber brown in color, moderate carbonation

Smells of banana and clove

Taste: Banana, clove, bubblegum, with a balanced, smooth finish

Mouthfeel: Smooth and refreshing!

Overall, this is a solid beer. I'd have it again. Frankly, I'm tempted to buy the mini keg.

This is an exceptional example of the style, and its worth your time if you are interested in exploring the wonderful world of weissbier. Or perhaps, you just have a hankerin for a Hefeweizen!

.5L bottle served chilled in a tall Weisse/Pilsner glass.

Appearance: Cloudy orangish yellow topped by an impressive fluffy white head. A thick film of bubbles was supported by the constant stream of bubbles as I greedily drank this beer. Wisps of lace were left on the glass.

Smell: Wonderfully fragrant smells of bananas, lemons, cloves, oranges, flowers, and hints of bubblegum. Complex and subtle due to it not overwhelming the nose.

Taste: Subdued and subtle flavors of sweet wheat malt, mild lemons, melons, and oranges. Bubblegum and cloves on the finish. Could have used just a titch more fruitiness (especially banana).

Mouthfeel: Very light, crisp and refreshing. Seemed just a tad watery, but only just.

Drinkability: Damn near perfect hefe in my experience. If I see a minikeg of this stuff, it is so mine! A very subtle beer that is a testament to the German craft.

16.9 ounce bottle.

Very hazy, almost opaque, very dark orange, with a decent smooth head, and lots of chunks of yeast. Not much lacing, but I don't expect much from this style.

Smell of fruity banana esters, mild citrus, a bit of grass, mown hay, and lots of clove, with a hint of black pepper.

Taste is clove and spice, citrus and clove, orange and clove, a tiny bit of banana, and -- did I mention it already? -- clove. Solid malted wheat presence that rolls over your tastebuds. Hints of black pepper. Really intriguing and pleasant.

Mouthfeel is nice and smooth. Leaves a feel like peppermint -- cooling and refreshing. Just a fascinating sensation. Wow.

Soooo drinkable. What a complete and complex brew! Really quite nice. Go get some now! I repeat: you MUST go get some now!

My God, what a wonderful head. Be careful pouring this one because the crown is a monster. I am not ashamed to admit that I often misjudge the pour and have to set the can, 80% empty, off to the side and wait for the head to calm itself. Not as cloudy as Franziskaner, my other favourite Hefe, but the body is a beautifully picturesque murky shade of honey. Lace all over the place. Of course, the head goes for broke and can't maintain its intensity for the duration. Don't forget to hold your glass up and check out the yeast scattered at the base.

The sweet smell, unsurprisingly, is reminiscent of banana-flavoured bubblegum, cloves and an earthy fungus-lined fruit-cellar. Very nice.

One of the best things about this Hefe is its complexity. It is like a great book or a great piece of jazz in the sense that each successive revisit reveals new layers of meaning.

In my opinion, the aroma, appearance and the shear drinkability of Kapuziner Gold HefeWeizen are what set it apart from most beers. I could drink this all day. Who needs milk and water for sustenance when you can survive on this stuff? Pace yourself. Show some will-power...

The beer pours a hazy pale gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is great. It has a dry, yet sweet wheat malt scent that boasts of cloves and bananas along with a fruity yeast aroma. The taste is awesome. It has a really smooth and fruity flavor that is refreshing and sweet. This is one of the best wheat beers I've ever tasted. Bananas and clove flavors scream from this one. The mouthfeel is perfect. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This beer is full of flavor and aroma; a perfect hefe.

Presentation: 500ml bottle in a classic Weizen glass

Bonus: any beer with a full color, beer holdin' monk on the bottle cap is doing alright even before its opened!

Beautiful, classic Hefe Weizen nose. Full of soft, ripe banana, clove, traces of lemon rind, black peppercorns, soft, inviting, creamy in aroma...very pleasing. Color is also classic - hazy, unfiltered, murky, thickened honey gold to slight orangish- amber hue lurks directly below the stunningly sculpted 3 finger's of thick, landscaped winter white head that has retained 2 finger's worth of coverage well after pouring and remains throughout the entire glassful, lacing nicely. An almost aquarium-esque cascade of bubbles march relentlessly thru the beer in a somewhat suspended state as they fight thru all that lovely murkiness. This is a visually & aromatic beauty....very nice.

Oh, so crisp, yet creamy! Wow...this is very nice. The clove spiciness adds to the crispness, but yet an underlying sweetness balances it. Banana qualities rise up very noticably, but not so much as a flavor but a continuation of the experience. There is a little bitter peep on the tongue and it returns to its basics of malt & wheat with a subtle cracker like quality, some lemon, the the finish begins with a flurry as that peppery quality from the nose rises and slaps those cracker crumbs right off your palate, but also leaves a pleasing, clean sweetness (apple?) as it fades away, a semi-dry ciderlike crackle as well as painting the mouth with, well, a little of everything just experienced, with a slight nod to that banana tone.

Without question one of the best Hefe Weizen's I've ever had. This hit on all cylinders, and there were no low spots. Could see this being a fantastic warm weather refresher, or pairing well with with white fish, salad, chicken, shrimp, a sharp cheese, and so on. This was really enjoyable, and I will definitely make this part of my warm weather cellar. This is a no brainer - highly recommended. Check it out!

This is one damn fine hefe-weisen. Pours a beautiful cloudy orange-yellow. Fruit, yeast and malt in the nose. The taste is primo. Good citrus taste. A hint of malt. Fairly dry. Leaves a nice clean aftertaste. I didn't notice a lot of spice in this one but the flavor profile is really appealling. Top 2 or 3 hefe in my book

SRM 5-6 (hazy pale gold to dark honey gold). A dense, white, one-inch mousse settles to half an inch for the duration, leaving patches of fine white lace on the Kapuziner Weizen glass.

Lots of clove phenol is matched by bubblegum, while light banana and lemon are accompanied by ripe pear, wheat and perhaps some coriander.

Light banana and clove as expected are balanced by tart lime which builds into a quick finish. Light toasted wheat and subtle sweet tropical flavors like mango and mandarin orange present with warmth.

A medium body with light alcohol, soft cotton or silky texture. A pop of carbonation quickly dissipates, leaving a highly refreshing and mouthwatering experience.

I regret only now trying this beer after having seen it for many years. This will definitely feature prominently as an easy-drinking summer beer. It is full of character and will accompany relaxation in the shade during a warm summer day. It will equally pair well while reading on the porch or from a lidded stein while taking in the rays with friends.

I guess I overlooked this Hefe which looks like a big mistake. I've seen this on shelves in one store that I visit quite often, but I always said, "Maybe later." I waited too long. This pours out cloudy dull orange with some carbonation that stays with you the entire time. Some cloves and bananas are in there to represent the style, but there's also some melon like aromas, along with some malts in the backround. A little unusal, but good nonetheless. Taste was very fruit-citrus like to my surprising. Cloves blend in finally in the middle and lasts until the end. Aftertaste had more of that citrus taste, but it did finish bone dry, almost similar to Orval Trappist Ale. Carbonation was very good, made it smooth and creamy, and just wanted to sip more every time. Don't overlook this Hefe when you see it.

Poured from .5L bottle to a big hefe glass the liquid is a right looking cloudy dark gold with excellent carbonation. The head is way big and white, but could leave a bit more lace.

The smell is excellent, banana, cloves very traditional, very good.

The taste follows, this is a very good German hefe, banana-clovers dominates with a note of peach, really nice, yet the malt could be a bit bigger.

The mouthfeel seems a little off, maybe the carbonation was spent in the pour/heat, but it seems a tad thin.

The drinkability is very good, a great brew to be sure.

I guess I'm alone on this one, but I really like this hef!

Pours a gorgeous hazy peachy yellow, with a fantastic fluffy white head. Nose is predominantly clove and banana. Taste follows with awesom banana bubble gum clove estery goodness! Super crisp and refreshing taste. Mouthfeel could maybe be a touch thicker for the style, but i actually like my hef a slight bit thin and carbonated, which this one is. Amply carbonated. Drinkability is solid and is enhanced by a good touch of carbonation. This one drinks like a goddamn soda. Overall defenitely the best hefeweizen I have had in a while. I will defenitely be buying more of this! Fantastic!

A: Poured on tap at Novare Res Bier Cafe. Large, white frothy head that slowly dissipated to 1-finger. Body is an almost rusty-orange color, and cloudy.

S: Very nice aroma of wheat, yeast, and citrus fruit. Nothing in the aroma is overpowering, yet still present enough to be present with every sip.

T: This is a great-tasting hefeweizen... smooth and refreshing with yeast and wheat, and lots of orange. Some spices are present (especially pepper). Excellent!

M: Medium-bodied and creamy, with average carbonation.

A: Pours a hazed golden/orange. Plenty of cloudiness here. In the Kapuziner Hefe glass, a towering white head forms with excellent retention and lace. This looks amazing.
S: Spicy, peppery, clove aromas. Husky wheat, with a bit of sweetness. Baked bread. Very nice.
T: This is excellent. A great peppery, spicy clove flavor. Husky wheat, sweetness, fresh backed bread. Even a bit of tart lemon and orange rind. I love it.
M/D: A medium body that is very effervescent. So crisp, clean and refreshing. After the initial sweetness, this finishes on the dry side. So easy and enjoyable to drink. This is something I can drink all day.

Instantly one of my favorite Hefeweizens. Pretty much perfect for the style, and so enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Comes in a tall brown half liter bottle with a blue and gold label featuring a monk holding a Weissbierglas. Purity law applies. Best before 5/14/04, I opened it on 3/28/04.

Magnificent pour - cloudy slight orangish gold under a thick and luxurious two finger head that lingers long and leaves excellent lace. I'm almost sorry to drink it, it looks so good. The nose is mild, but there's plenty of the tell tale spice and yeast to whet the appetite. The mouth is well but not overly carbonated, and fairly thick with the yeast. The taste is sublime - smooth spicey wheat and yeast blend together to provide a wonderful, slightly sweet flavor that is utterly drinkable. There's no hoppy bitterness here, but that can be forgiven, as the smooth spices caresse first the tongue, then the palate, then the throat. The aftertaste is sweet, with a background of yeast. Excellent.

Lightly misty polished gold suffused with the merest hint of orange. Slow, stately streams of carbonation rise through the beer to feed the tremendously attractive head. The cap is pearl colored and is as firmly creamy as any I've seen on a beer of this style. A thick collar of lace is the only glass garnish at present, although it looks as if more will appear as the beer falls with drinking.

The nose is fantastic. It contains all the requisite elements of the style and presents them in a beautiful symphony of smell. Malted wheat is mixed with sweet banana and muted clove. If the aroma is any indication, this beer will be a humdinger on the palate.

Kapuziner Weissbier is one of the most complex hefes that I've ever had. The lightly toasted, tangy wheat backbone is substantial and is the main reason why the beer is as good as it is. This is exactly how I prefer them: sweet and wheaty with plenty of yeasty fruit and spice. Sugared banana and zesty clove provide the flavor fireworks in each mouthful. The hefe weizen banan-o-meter score is a respectable 3.5/5.0.

An additional member of the flavor profile (that, surprisingly, contributes something of value) is peppery alcohol. Appreciable alcohol in a beer of this style is usually ruinous, but it works wonderfully well and gives the beer a power and seriousness that most versions lack.

The mouthfeel is impressively creamy and supremely smooth. Although far from al dente, it's about as chewy as this style gets. The energetic carbonation stops well short of annoying and gives additional pizzaz to a beer whose flavor profile is bursting with it. Drinkability is off the charts.

Kapuziner Weissbier can stand alongside the best hefes in Deutschland (and, therefore, in the world at large). In fact, I'd have to drink it side by side with Ayinger Brau Weisse to arrive at a favorite. I'm not about to do that, though, because I'm happy to have both beers share my top spot. If a better hefe weizen exists, I'd love to taste it.
