This is a hazy, dingy, yellow-orange beer with a big head that fades fast. The nose is an understated and well-balancedmix of clove, lemon, and spicy yeast.

This beer has a heavier mouthfeel which is leathened by wheat zip. Flavor is very balanced, with spice and clove just barely sticking out over a mellow bananna character. No bubblegum, no citrus. A very solid hefe, but I'm alittle bored with it and prefer Paulaner or Franz

On-tap at Kulmbacher im Bahnhof in Bamberg and served in a 300 ml weizen glass, on to the beer:

A few shaded darker than yellow is this weizen, with a head which retains well like most of the fresh German beers that I had in Bavaria. The aroma brings a solid base of banana and banana bread, yet still feels like something is missing. The missing aspect comes around in the taste; spice. Banana bread and vague baking spices bring some fun to this weizen, and with time gets a little more fruity. It's light bodied with pleasantly crisp carbonation, and is an easy drinker. When fresh, this is one to try.

A bright gold hue brightens this beer despite its unfiltered haze; otherwise it's a yellow in about a medium shade edging toward darker, though very much short of amber. Active carbonation serves to sustatin a fluffy white head such that it the time it remains at one finger tall is pretty lengthy. The craggy cap leaves some good lacing in thick, dense patches.
The nose gives off some strength, a solid wheat backbone with firm yeasty undertones. Banana comes off as veey fresh and, while clove is sublte (just a little more than I'd like), it is present. There's a touch of grassiness, and this beer has more of a fruity boquet than I'd expect from a hefe. Still, very good.
The taste somehow simultaneously meets and defies expectations; maybe it's that there's every note I expect, but not in the order of strength or focus I would expect. For instance, banana and clove become a backdrop rather than foremost elements, and ripe fruits take more of the attention. True, the banana, at least, is more constant than clove, earth or bubble gum. Fortunately, all those notes are here, but the focus seems unusual. It's a tasty, easy-drinking beer for sure regardless.
Light-bodied, well carbonated without being too heavily carbonated, and fluffy, this beer manages a crisp bite that's gentle but firm and doesn't fade off, with a smoothness that's likewise consistent. All in all, it makes for a fantastic mouthfeel, especially for the style.

SRM 5-6 (hazy pale gold to dark honey gold). A dense, white, one-inch mousse settles to half an inch for the duration, leaving patches of fine white lace on the Kapuziner Weizen glass.

Lots of clove phenol is matched by bubblegum, while light banana and lemon are accompanied by ripe pear, wheat and perhaps some coriander.

Light banana and clove as expected are balanced by tart lime which builds into a quick finish. Light toasted wheat and subtle sweet tropical flavors like mango and mandarin orange present with warmth.

A medium body with light alcohol, soft cotton or silky texture. A pop of carbonation quickly dissipates, leaving a highly refreshing and mouthwatering experience.

I regret only now trying this beer after having seen it for many years. This will definitely feature prominently as an easy-drinking summer beer. It is full of character and will accompany relaxation in the shade during a warm summer day. It will equally pair well while reading on the porch or from a lidded stein while taking in the rays with friends.

A: Pours a hazed golden/orange. Plenty of cloudiness here. In the Kapuziner Hefe glass, a towering white head forms with excellent retention and lace. This looks amazing.
S: Spicy, peppery, clove aromas. Husky wheat, with a bit of sweetness. Baked bread. Very nice.
T: This is excellent. A great peppery, spicy clove flavor. Husky wheat, sweetness, fresh backed bread. Even a bit of tart lemon and orange rind. I love it.
M/D: A medium body that is very effervescent. So crisp, clean and refreshing. After the initial sweetness, this finishes on the dry side. So easy and enjoyable to drink. This is something I can drink all day.

Instantly one of my favorite Hefeweizens. Pretty much perfect for the style, and so enjoyable. Highly recommended.
