The pour was lightly carbonated. Color was a pale copper and head was weak but prevalent off white color. No lacing. Smell was all malts. Caramel and white bread most noticeable. Body was very light and thin. Taste was also thin. Main flavors was still caramel and bread was there in the base. But more estery flavors came through and some light fruitiness as well, maybe from the yeast. Finish was crisp but rather watery. This wasn't too exciting, all the flavors were quite weak but it was very easy to drink. Went down easily.

This came off to me as an american oktoberfest-like ale. I don't like munich/vienna malts that much, so this lost big on that point alone.

Orangish ruby clear brew with an ample creamy offwhite head filling the pint glass, and slowly reducing with a very light level of rising bubbles to maintain it. Smells are delicate with some sweet caramel and some munich or vienna notes. A slight bitter note rides atop a tangy sweet munich malt flavor. I would like more caramel, crystal, and toasty malt flavors to balance the munich, as munich in balance is ok with me, theres just not enough to go with it in this brew. Moderately light body and delicate carbonation. Would be very drinkable if there was more and different malts.

Pours a somewhat hazy red with a nice head. Dissipated some, but otherwise hung around. Not too much in the nose - I mostly took in a hoppy aroma. Tastewise, it was just a malty redness (how's that for vague?), and it just washed away in my mouth, leaving a sort of stale, watery aftertaste. Really not much there. It wasn't offensive, it just wasn't...much of anything. Maybe it comes from having too many stouts lately. Overall, it drinks OK, but it's nothing great. I don't think I need to have it again.

Nice red clear body, with a nice white thick head that saddly dropped off very quickly.

Nice nose with a tempting balance of hop and grain,

Tastes starts out with a good hop presesnce that fades and grainy maltiness that starts tasting slightly astringent after a few seconds.

Undercarbination and lack of body detracted from mouthfeel.

If the taste was a little more balanced I'd consider this a good red. alas not quite there...

This one is a keeper. It’s not ridiculously expensive, has a very good flavor, and is quite drinkable. Smell is definitely of sorghum, sweet with some caramel and malt. There’s a small amount of yeast in the bottle, which I like, and visible yeast within the pour. Cloudy red color with a small, foamy dark tan head that fades quickly. Surprisingly but not cloying sweet flavor with bitter overtones. Rich mouthfeel and smoother than most but not exceptional. Sort of bubbly/creamy. A faint aftertaste gives an underwhelming finish. Overall, definitely above average.

no freshness dating found on the 12 ounce brown bottle/label. Pours a bland red/orangy amber, basic white head, with minimal lacing. Perhaps some malt in the nose. Middle of the road ale, perhaps a wiff of smoke or rye, but if its in there, its pretty faint. Non too impressed with this one, better beer is out there-- keep looking.

Pours out to a brilliantly clear sparkingly caramel-red, forming a soapy light beige head with good retention and nice lacing. Carbonation is moderate. Aroma is nice with husky wet grain sack, roasted barley, toast, and a pleasant barley sweetness. This aroma reminds me of cooking wort. Touches of honey and vanilla laced throughout. Quite nice for a red ale. Mouthfeel is rather smooth with a medium body. Taste is quite good, surprisingly good actually for a Stoney Creek product. Begins with some delicate herbal hops, followed by a well-balanced malt body with toast and grain characteristics, leading into toasty grain husk and light residual sugars in the late middle, followed by a slight wet-husk sourness and medium intensity vegetable hops in the lightly dry, toasty finish. Cleanly fermented, with no off-flavors.

This is actually pretty good stuff. I'm surprised by this one, but it's a winner. I would gladly drink this one again.

Poured a clear light amber in color with a fizzy, short-lived off-white head that did not lace at all. Aromas are a mixture of sweet caramel and a hint of sourness. Flavor is doughy sweet up front and finishes with a little bit of honey aftertaste. Very surprised at how thin this was. Very, very watery, with a lack of any body. Drinkable, but nothing about this beer would make me seek it out again.

I'm always pulling for Stoney Creek. I have no ties to the brewery, but I really want their stuff to be top shelf. I guess it's the simple, unassuming quality of their label -- what can I say, I'm a victim of American advertising. This one is just above average.

Pours a reddish amber, very clear, with a small white head that fizzes away too fast.

Carmel malt smell with a hint of banana and some astringent scent.

Mellow, mellow carmel taste, very little hop presence and a sweet finish that's almost candy-like.

Well carbonated, medium bodied brew.

An average brew, neither good nor bad, but solid in the middle.

Maybe I rated this lower because I've sampled so many big IPA's lately, my tastebuds simply demand more. Plus, this one's been in the cellar about 4 months. I'll have to revisit this. I'm pulling for ol' Stoney.

Better on tap than from the bottle. Nice, amber color in the glass, with a slight aroma of biscuits/baked bread. The taste is well-balanced and the hops to malt ratio works on this one. Very drinkable. Much "cleaner" on-tap than from the bottle.

Light tan head sits atop this reddish copper beer. Some particulates noted.
Aroma shows bready, caramel malt and earthy hops.

Taste follows suit. Very bready. Sweet caramel and toffee malt flavors. Decent earthy hop balance. Bready malt sweetness lingers a bit long at finish. Just a hint of sourness as well.

Good body and mouthfeel.
Drinkable enough.

Overall, a decent amber ale. Thanks to AKSmokedPorter for the bottle.

Hazy ruddy bronze hue. One fingered, uniform, dense persistent vanilla white head. Sparse lace remains. Mellow combination of sweet tangerine and floral, perfumed hops bolstered by generic medium lovibond caramel. Light diacetyl and esters of a red apple nature surface as the beer warms. Tame, but pleasant aromawise. Flavorwise, the prevailing malt character is no surprise, and mostly mirrors the aroma. Medium caramel provides the bulk of sweetness, although subtle sugar cookie notes add a doughy undertone. Butterscotch augments as the brew breathes, eventually lending a buttered toffee component when combined with the caramel malt. Hop bitterness is paltry, leaving balance well skewed towards malt sweetness, but thankfully not cloyingly so. Hop flavor is akin to diluted, overripe tangerine juice. Mild red currant fruit ester persist from start to finish. Thinnish and a bit over attenuated, with a mouthfeel that begs for more girth. Finishes with a sweet metallic twang, but otherwise with fading, innocuous caramel. A rather ho hum red ale, but enjoyable and quite drinkable as a whole. It wet my palate for a more satiating brew...

Showed up in the Beer of the Month Club shipment this month. Pours a hazy deep orange with very little head and light carbonation. Sweet, malty nose. Richly malty, a touch of hops, with a substantial body. Finishes a bit foamy, with a less sweet malty taste and a hint of smoke. Not a bad one, fairly well in keeping with the archetypal red ale.

Light red color. Medium white foamy head. Aroma is bready, fruity and sweet. A light to medium bodied red/amber ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are mild and slightly spicy. A little thin bodied, and the malt sweetness sort of predominates the beer. Drinkable, but sort of a middle of the road average amber. Mouthfeel is a touch thin. Finish is clean and smooth.

Simple, easy drinkin'. Served out of the bottle at Stoney Creek.

True to form, it's quite reddish to amber in color. Head fades immediately. Caramel-ish hints in the aroma and the flavor. Malty, bready, husky. Pretty clear in color. Not terribly original. But well-balanced and quite drinkable.

Pours with a two fingered frothy off-white head that leaves a good lace. Medium carbonation. Color is on the clear side of amber. On the sweet side but just barely. Starts smooth with some malt and finishes with a little hoppy bitterness. The ABV is 5%.

An average brew that has little to distinquish it. The body is amber with red hues, the head unimpressive and there appears to be no lacing. The aroma is mainly of caramel malt and a touch of hops, but light overall. The taste is malty with enough hops to balance making it a middle of the road amber, but the body is a bit thin and lacks bite. Drinkable in a pinch when nothing better is available.

An interesting yet rather odd brew. This fellar was like liquid caramel corn! I know that this is coming from the caramel malts used, but I couldn't help feeling like I was eating caramel corn rather than drinking beer! And, caramel corn is a good thing! Anyway, the beer was all about malt, with a touch of balancing bitter mid-palate yet it always seemed to be begging for more hop. I think the beer is a touch out of balance, but the uncanny popcorn flavors are unique and I suggest if you find this beer give it a try. If you don't love it pretend it's caramel corn and munch, munch, munch with your favorite video rental.

There was no head with this brew and no lacing. The body of this brew was red. It had a fruity and a sweet aroma. The taste was smooth which was to my liking. There was no bitterness noted with this brew. Also, there was no aftertaste noticed after finishing this drink.
