The beer is clear deep chestnut brown, with a warm off-white head that leaves good lacing. Little curtains.
Smelling of ripe apples, nuts, nettles and lemon peel.
The taste starts with brown bread, the bitter orange marmalade and grape-fruit peel.
Medium carbonation, small bubbles, a slightly coarse texture and a dry finish.
Well, once more the trendy trade mark of Spendrup surprised me. Far better than expected.

The liquid is clear, the colour dark brown-red (50 EBC). The three finger brown head slowly sinks down leaving lots of thick lacing.
The smell got a fine mix of American hops (some citric hints, some Pine needles) and caramelized malts. Toffee, Christmas spices, fresh herbs, and some bitterness. It is not very sweet.
The taste is a bit thinner than the smell suggested. Lots of caramel malts, some dry citric flavours and quit a lot of Christmas spices (nutmeg, cloves, cardamom). Dry medium bitter flavours. Spices, herbs and orange peels in the malty (caramel, bread) aftertaste. Dry tea-like off-flavours in the warming finish.
The carbonation is medium strong and smooth. The small bubbles are mild. The liquid is semi-smooth.
A surprisingly smooth and spicy (no spices were used during the brew) ale. Not bad at all.

A: Pours deep, deep red with a tall pale brown head that sinks into quite nice lacings.
S: Roasted malt, sweet. Some tart, but also an off-smell; rough corn?! Quite some fruit.
T: Rough, dry malt. Fruits and nettles. Bitter hops and heavily roasted. Chocolate and some coffee.
M: Long bitter aftertaste; nice. Body is medium while carbonation light.
O: Well, like most beers from Spendrups; it feels like they rather produce quantity before quality...
