My wife and I stumbled into and out of this place on a trip to Idaho. McCall is basically a little resort town wrapped around Payette Lake... really beautiful place. The interior of McCall Brewing was really cool, lots of wood and such. Very warm. The beers were even better than that, and the staff was very nice. We sampled a little of everything on tap at the time, but settled comfortably into their incredible Scotch Ale. This was about the smoothest Scotch Ale we've tasted, and it packed a sneaky whallop. Definitely worth stopping here.

Heading home, last stop, McCall. Tucked away in the back corner of a shopping center, easy to miss. Dark, lots of wood. Mostly flagships on tap, 2 seasonals. Good service. Menu available, but we did not eat.

really fun place, second oldest brewery in idaho and a ton of character in their pub, celebrating 25 years this week! wow. it was a fun time to be in, a cool old mountain town feeling brewery, lots of wood, low light, cozy as can be, with some nice copper vessels behind the bar and plenty of seating, bigger inside than it looks from outside for sure. they have dollar beers for happy hour in the off season, which seems insane, but i caught it just right! they had a surprisingly large list of beers on, considering we only ever see two or three of them around the boise market, i was impressed with it. i liked a smoked scotch ale and their red ale the best of the lot on the malty side, while the hippie hopped pale was my favorite of their hoppy beers. only one or two misses among them, an esb and a kolsch, both in need of some work. on the whole though, the beer was better than it has been in my previous experiences with their stuff, and i left here stoked on the place. got to meet the bartender, brewer, owner, and sales guy, and everyone was really cool, down to earth, and seemingly having a blast doing what they do, those good vibes spill over into the pub for sure, and this is a fantastic place to hang out. i didnt eat, but will next time. nice to see some innovation up on the board with their classics. definitely hit these guys up when you are in town!

Awesome. I love the McCall area and this place will not let you down. The food is great and the beers are above average. The pricing is really fetching...for the person who insinuated that being around so much wood was an issue should go somewhere else, as down to earth people in this area of the state don't need crap like that. I love the log cabin feel, the beers are served by knowledgeable people and you get the feeling that it's just a happy operation. The food is always soooooo good and they don't skimp on anything. i always enjoy going here. i visit a few times a a years as my best friend from college manages a nearby ski area.

Stopped here for lunch and a sampler. Tried the six beers on tap, a lemon-ginger hefe (very refreshing and quite good), the Hippy Hopped Pale Ale (excellent), an IPA (nice complexity), Mackinaw Red (very nice with good hop balance), Zamboni Brown (again, nicely hopped) and the Smoked Scorch Ale, also very good. Food was also excellent. All in all a worthy stop.

Tried to like this place but couldn't. I hear great things about their beer so this review is based only my two trips there.

The atmosphere was ok, a little backwoods idaho but still fun. A TV or two, some stuff hanging on the walls. Quality seemed just fine, too.

Service I wasn't too fond of either visit. The gal that helped me the second time seemed like she was trying, but they had some interesting rules about what time people were allowed upstairs/on the roof, and whether you can take your beer up there or not. When asking questions about style and such there wasn't a lot of help, but I did get some samples.

Selection I remember being ok.

Food wasn't anything to write home about.

I see positive reviews and one negative, so maybe I went at a bad time. The trip that was annoying was lunch time, so maybe dinner/early evening is a better option.

YMMV.

First of all, a few good words. Their scotch ale was very tasty, probably the best I've ever had. It's peaty to the point of almost being a Rauchbier...very smoky and yet smooth and balanced. The aftertaste is delicious, like a fine cigar...Drinking it makes me want to drink more.

On to the gripes.

1. Atmosphere was just 100% wooden boards, outside and in. It was the brownest, uglyest place ever. Not only that, their graphic design and interior decoration is painfully outdated and hideous. Were those tube tv's in the corners? Do they even have a website? Get with the times. It's no surprise that I was the only person under 50 there on a Wednesday night.

2. Sampler trays don't include all the beers. Shame. Please include all your beers in the sampler. Come on, I can only pick four beers? I'll pay extra even! What I don't want is to be chugging away at 4 6oz pours.

3. The location, while right downtown, is in a wonky little stripmall next to a hardware store. It's just strange and out of place.

4. Despite maybe 15 people there, none were eating food. Every single booth and table was empty, at dinner time no less. Painful. I'm not rating the food, but I have a suspicion based on this demographic that a restaurant being empty at dinner time is a bad thing.

Long story short: Pop in here for some beers, try the Scotch Ale or seasonals at the very least. Otherwise, Salmon River brewing around the corner will do you much better :)

My girlfriend and I went for a little weekend get away up in McCall. We knew about this place from my roommate (he would bring us back growlers) so we definitely wanted to stop by. It’s a nice cozy place with a very warm, cabin feel. The bartender was super friendly and knowledgeable about the beer. The food is a bit pricey but it is really good. We got some crab artichoke dip that came with some fantastic bread. I sampled or drank every beer they had on tap and they were all really good. They had a pretty good selection of 8-9 brews on tap as well. It’s a nice little place that I highly recommend for a great beer if you’re ever in McCall.

We didn't get in to McCall until around 10pm, which meant that the kitchen was closed although the bar was still serving. Our bartender really knew and cared about good beer, and she was happy to share her stuff and recommend other places in the area. Some breweries seem pre-fabricated and plastic... this was the real deal.

The place is really well done, stylish without being overbearingly pretentious. We wound up walking out of there with a growler of the Tanglefoot, although there were four or five beers that were completely top-notch in my book. I wish we could have made it there for dinner, but them mountain roads in Idaho take some time to drive. Oh well. We'll most certainly be back.
