Appearance - A dark but slightly translucent char-brown with hidden auburn hues. Tan/Light brown head with medium retention.
Smell - A sweet-sour hollow musk hits you first and turns into a milky resin smell.
Taste - Sweet and sour relates well .The hops are just barely there to balance the mellow but heavy malts.
Mouthfeel - Doesn't bubble much. A tiny bit of stick like honey & milk.
Drinkability - I can drink this beer faster than any other one at the brewery. I like t have a lot of stout but nearly any beer drinker could put down 2 or 3 before getting tired or full.
NOTE: Some reviews about this brewery may be inconsistent. In my opinion, this is because this is a larger brew pub and there are not a ton of brewery drinkers in this town. They also serve bud light etc. so their brewery beer sometimes gets a little flat or stale before it is all gone.

Sampled at home from a growler.
Appearance: This is a very dark beer, with only hints of brown showing around the edges when held up to the light. A dense, brown head rose up to two fingers on the pour and lingered a long time. It finally settled into a thin foam cap that covered the top of the brew for most of the drink. There was a lot of heavy lacing, covering the glass in sheets in some places. This is exactly what a stout should look like.
Smell: A wonderful aroma of cream, coffee, and bitter chocolate. As the beer really warmed up, I started to detect a light smokiness as well.
Mouthfeel: Medium- to full-bodied with a smooth, creamy feel to it. Very nice.
Taste: The flavor profile matches the aroma. There was a strong taste of coffee, combined with bitter chocolate and a hint of sweet cream. A little bit of bitterness kicks in on the finish, but it is light. This is not a kick-you-in-the-teeth stout; overall, the flavors are light. But it is still very good.
This beer is one of my regular favorites from RCBC. It's almost a milk/sweet/cream stout, but not quite. It's definitely not a dry stout. I have noticed that it is a little inconsistent from batch to batch, but it is always good.

A - Very dark with some ruby highlights and a 1-inch tan head that never completely died down, but did leave behind some very nice lacing in its wake.
S - Coffee and dark chocolate, but the aroma was really weak until warming.
T - Chocolate really stands out, with some coffee and a slight hint of smokiness. As it warms the coffee starts to stand out more and the overall flavors really start to blend and add a little complexity.
M - Full-bodied and very creamy. The nitrogen keeps this silky and smooth.
D - As would be expected the flavors stand out much better as the beer warms, but it never really takes this style as far as it can go. As far as aroma and taste go this beer is fairly average, but it is still good enough to recommend giving it a try.

Served in a pint glass.
A-Black/brown in color, opaque. Frothy brown head on top, moderate retention.
S-Strong roasted and chocolatey malts. No hop aromas.
T-An initial roasted malt flavor was followed by strong chocolate and toastiness. Moderate bitterness provided some balancing to oppose the sweet and roasty malts.
M-Easy to drink, characteristic of nitro tap. The carbonation was small bubbles, again due to nitro tap. Creamy and almost thick in the mouth.
D-Relatively high drinkability. The darkness of this beer does not hinder its drinkability, and the nitro tap keeps it going down smooth.

Decent Stout. I had this on-tap at Old Dominion Brewhouse in DC. Was looking for something "desserty" after I finished my meal, and this beer did the trick. Similar in flavor to the Dogfish Chicory, but with more bitterness and malt character. I'd have this beer again, but it wasn't my favorite for this style.

Served in a pint glass from a nitro tap
Dark black in color with a creamy two finger head that last all the way through the beer. Little lacing is left behind.
I get hints of dark unsweetened chocolate, roasted coffee beans, wheat.
This lacks flavor(which wasnt to my surprise). I get very little hints of coffee, unsweetened dark chocolate. This definitely needs a lot more flavor, but is definitely a lot better then Granite Citys Stout.
Mouthfeel is very thin and low carbonation.
I would not choose to drink this beer again and they need to add more flavor to this.

Had on tap at the brewpub in Wichita.
Beer is opaque and jet black, and is crowned with a thin head. Some lacing remains stuck to the glass.
The smell has hints of roastiness but not much to write home about.
Same goes for taste. I wonder what specialty malts were used for flavor, or if it's just base malt & color.
Mothfeel is good. Very light, mostly contributed to by the nitro.
Overall, not anything special. Hopefully the brewery will have something exceptional.

Tasted on 12/20/2005. I don't know exactly what it is about breweries in this part of the country but they can't brew a decent stout. This stuff is mediocre at best. Pours to a pitch black color and tan head. Medicinal aroma, smells like Neosporin for pete's sake! The taste is weirdly sweet and unbalanced. Put in some more hops or add minerals to the water. Coach's in Norman, OK, has the same problem. They "try" to brew a stout and all they get from their local water is crap. If you can't brew a decent stout, DON'T BREW STOUTS!!!
