A&S - Pours a light and hazy straw color with a finger of white foamy head, reeks of wheat and banana, with citrus and clove to back it up.
T&M - Very light body, super crisp, nice wheat and lemon flavor, clove and banana starts to kick in, very appropriate compared to American wheat ales, just a little too light.
O - A nice session brew. Super refreshing and easy drinking.
This is my 2nd of Mammoths brews, and my first of the two, Golden Trout, wasn't too bad. They try to sell these as the super cold beer you want to be drinking as your hanging out by the Devil's Postpile, reeling in a brown at Virginia, or just keeping warm in Tom's Place. And if any of those ideas sound like a plan, these beers should be worth while. I'm not a fan of hef's as I find them to lack complexity, no hate, but every once and a while I find one thats just too good to pass up. Everytime im in the area ill remember this one and be sure to recommend it to my buds. Stay thirsty my friends!

Mammoth floating rock hefeweizen
22 from brewery. Label says it's 5%
A-pour produces a big 2 finger frothy head resting on a cloudy yellow body. Good head retention and lacing. 4
S- clove, doughy malt, banana, slight white pepper. A bit sweet though on the nose 3.5
T- banana, clove, a very doughy malt taste, light white pepper. A good hefeweizen for sure, just a bit sweet though but not over the top sweet. 3.5
M- I rarely feel this way but the mouthfeel is a bit thick. Light carbonation 3
O- good and I'd have it again at $3.50 for the 22. Drinkability is hindered by the sweetness. 3.5

750ml bottle fresh from the source.
Pours cloudy yellowish-gold, with plenty of murky yeast when swirled and decanted from the bottle. One inch of dense white head with a solid foam cap for the duration and plenty of sheets of lacing throughout the glass.
Aromatics are chock full of Bavarian goodness. Bannanas, cloves, and a wheaty twang. A slight citric spice follows through.
Medium bodied with a crisp but smooth and lush mouthfeel. Pillowy and creamy.
Lemon-spritzed doughy malt and bannana bread lead off the palate. Clove-studded biscuit ends follow through. Hints of white pepper and more lemon follow through.
Finishes crisp with lots of fresh lemony wheat, banannas, and yeasty happiness.
Great Bavarian Hef. Really refreshing and the cloves vs. bannanas are nicely in check.

Floating Rock hefeweizen has a neat label that features a floating black bear. The beer itself looks OK also. Yellow body with a good bit of haze and a large, white head. Retention and lacing are both respectable.
The aroma leans mostly on fruit, with lots of bread in the background. A hint of peppery aroma is in there also.
Floating Rock is a very fruity hefeweizen. Lots of banana that gives the impression of more sweetness than there actually is in this beer. A little bit of bubble gum is in there too, and a small amount of clove comes through as well. Second to the banana is the bread characteristics of the malt, along with some subtle sweetness.
The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, and overall pretty solid for the style.
These notes have been sitting around for a while, but I had this one as my first beer after spending a week in the backcountry in Yosemite, and boy did it taste good (Amazing food and solid beer can be found at the Mobil station on the eastern side of the Tioga Pass). Objectively, however, it is nothing special, and the fruit was a little overpowering.

Bottle to Weizen
22oz
No bottle date
App- A lighter yellow with a golden haze. A nice
two finger fast receding head formed followed by a couple dots of cling.
Smell- A good wheat base with a little white pepper. Was missing a good bit of the banana and clove notes.
Taste- Much more of a just a wheat beer. A good dose of wheat with some oily buttery flavors and a tad thick for the 4.2. Retained a bit of that white pepper from the nose on the profile.
Mouth- A medium body with a medium carbonation. Again a bit thick. Retains a bit of wheat and pepper.
Drink- It was nice on a hot day but needed to be a bit thinner and bit more flavorful.

Poured from a 22oz bomber, per what the bottle says ABV is at 5% not 4.2%. Anyways on to more important things..
Pour into a pint glass, nice hazy golden yellow, with a one finger fluffy white head that dissipates rather quickly.
Smell-Clove, lemon, baked apricot, raw sour dough and hints of bubblegum.
Taste- lemon scones come to mind with sprinkled all spice and clove, little of the bitterness from the hops come through toward the end but quickly dissipates giving this brew a nice tart sweetness. The smell and a little of the taste hinted some memory of chalkboard for some reason.
Mouthful was crisp, dry and very clean. Drinkabilty was high, I could defiantly go through a few pitchers of this stuff with friends. Good beer not great but highly sessionable.

Bought a 22oz bottle in Mammoth yesterday.
Appearance: A cloudy straw yellow. A thick, somewhat craggy head appeared, but died off pretty quickly. Very fine yeast sediment (no clumps left at bottom of glass).
Smell: faint bubble gum, with banana following. First whiff reminded me of a Paulaner.
Flavor: Blah. An unpleasant spice flavor, like the spice additions in a bad pumpkin ale. Clovey, without any balancing banana. Citrus not noticed.
Mouthfeel: light to medium light, with inadequate carbonation.
Drinkability: Not worth finishing 22oz
Probably the worst hefeweizen - American or Bavarian - that I can remember.

I picked up a bottle at the tasting room (I love getting fresh beer from a brewery). I think a B- is a bit rough for this beer. I think it's a decent enough session beer and reminds me of Summit Brewing's Hefe. Sure, it's a touch light for the style, making it feel a touch acidic. But it still has the style trademark clove spice with mild malted wheat. It's smooth with a touch of earthy perfume in the aroma. I certainly wouldn't mind having few pints of this on a hot day, or really any day. It can't quite stand up to the giants of the style, but it's a fine beer.

Appearance: high carbonation, yellow-orange in color, 1 inch head with a rocky top, cloudy
Smell: grass, wheat, and subtle bananas
Taste: subtle wheat, lemons, and big bananas
Mouthfeel: light bodied, moderate carbonation, slightly sweet
Drinkability: A big winner from Mammoth. This is one of the best I have had in this style--at least state side. Super refreshing and lots of banana taste. I could session this. A great surprise. One of the best from my recent trip.

Was in Mammoth and brought back this 22 oz. bottle for rating purposes.
Pours a nice golden hue, nice cloudiness, what one might expect from a hefeweizen. Good 1 finger head, seems to cling well to glass, great foam stability. No apparant aromas typical of the style, like bubble gum, banana or clove - very neutral and "wheaty". Very good mouthfeel, nice light beer - actually tastes like more alcohol than 4.2%. Decent bittering level, maybe a bit too much. Tastes more like citrus & yeast than the typical elements of a german hefe.
Other than the missing aromas, this is a decent offering and well executed.
