Appearance- Pours a dark cola with a finger width of mocha head.

Smell- roasted malts, leafy hops, nuttiness.

Taste- Starts off with the roasted malts and nutty character then jumps into pleasant bitter leafy hops.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes with a touch of the roasted malts and has a lingering bitterness.

Overall- Cannery Brewing does the style justice by giving us the roasted malts, and bitter leafy hop goodness. I enjoyed the nutty character to this brew as this added a uniqueness to the brew. A great tribute to those firefighters that battle wildfires in throughout Canada.

650ml bottle poured into a 20oz nonic.

A - Pours with a small head of light tan bubbles. The beer is black at a glance, but some small ruby highlights show up here and there. The head settles to a thin cap and leaves some short-lived lacing.

S - Piney hops with a roasty backbone of dark malt and molasses. Chocolatey notes come through as well, with some wood and caramel. Certainly an aroma that combines qualities from both dark roasty beers and well as hoppy ales; very nice.

T - The interesting interplay from the nose continues beautifully. Opens up simple with some chocolate, caramel malt and a touch of molasses, and finishes with an excellent combination of piney and grassy hops with roasted malt and hint of coffee bitterness. Despite having both hoppy astringency and roasty bitterness, the back of the palate doesn't get too chaotic, and stays very drinkable and very balanced. As it warms I get a touch of fruitiness, peat, wood, and anise. Surprisingly complex and tasty.

M - Surprisingly thick and full feeling body with some nice low carbonation that lets the viscosity take center stage; and it holds up well above a 6.0% ABV ale. Lingering bitterness.

D - Absolutely fantastic mixture of hop-forward IPA flavors with roasty stout-esque flavors as well. I didn't really know what to expect coming into this, but this was a surprisingly tasty brew from Cannery. I don't have much context with this style, as it's my first Black Ale, but as far as my introduction to the style goes, I thought this was a delicious and highly drinkable beer, and certainly worth trying again.

Cannery Brewing's Wild Fire IPA pours deep brown with a tan head. The aroma is slightly citrusy, with a hint of dark fruit. Hoppy bitterness and roasted astringency in the flavor are some what balanced by sweet malt. There is some nice citrusy, piney hop flavor. More slightly astringent black malt compounds the moderate bitterness for an almost tart finish. Overall a pretty decent beer, and I like the theme.

A personal fave since trying at the 2010 Calgary beerfest
A - deep dark amber with a tall tan head that dissipated down to one finger and retained there
S - pine, herbs, citrus, lightly burnt malt with molasses
T - the hop kick is strong with citrus and pine, with some herbal hop finish, roasty molasses malt with a cedar note, very tasty
M - smooth and medium carbonation, finishing somewhat tart and bitter
D - strong hop characteristics with a sturdy roasty & sweet malt backbone, extremely tasty, a fantastic beer and a fitting tribute to those who fought the forest fires in interior B.C.

I didn't read the bottle, so I was surprised by the colour!

A: Deep-amber/roasted-chestnut, great off-white head, nice retention & lace.

S: American hops with hints of roast.

T: Good american hop flavour, with a light (almost smoky) roast, some caramel sweetness is held in check with a solid bitterness. Very unique... and I like it.

M: Moderate body has a light residual sweetness.

D: A good drinker.

Pours deep dark brown with a big tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is earthy with some malt and floral hops. The flavor is well balanced with roasted malts, nuts, and some hops bitterness. Decent mouthfeel, albeit a little thin. Carbonation is fairly light. Refreshing and definitely drinkable.. overall this is a pretty good beer.

Cannery Brewing produces a surprisingly delicious IPA.

A - Dark brown with a ruby red tinge to it. Poured a thin layer of head, which dissipated to a nice thin film of bubbles. Very appealing!

S - Almost woody on the nose, like fresh cut lumber. The hops are the prominent scent, but are not overpowering.

T - I wasn't sure what to expect given the rather mild scent, however, I was surprised at how much punch this one had. The hops are strong off the top and it finishes with a sweet honey flavour. Hops are a little more bitter than I'm used to, but it is nicely balanced.

M - Very light on the palette, foaming up nicely and bubbles lightly in the mouth. The finish is a bit dry for my liking though.

D - What a delicious surprise this one was. I didn't have any high expectations, but this one well exceeded those that I did have. At 6% it's got a nice kick to it, is easily drinkable, and what a delicious flavour!

I cracked it open expecting to see a copper coloured beer splash in to my glass. Instead I was greeted with a deep garnet to brown beer that frothed up with a large sandy coloured head. A head that left the chunkiest of lacing. A surprise of the most beautiful kind.

The smoothness was immediately apparent. It has an almost creamy mouthfeel. Nice and malty on the front with chocolate, toffee and mild nuttiness coming through. The hops providing whispers of citrus. All this leading to a clean dry piney finish. A nice unique beer. A shame it was a limited release and not a new addition to Cannery's regular line up.

Bottle courtesy of Gravelle. Deep murky brown pour unleashes a foamy and rocky beige cap. Lots of sticky lace here. Nose of citrus, pine, and floral hops. Lots of roasty malts, charred wood, some spice. Tastes of fresh citric hops, roasty malts again, dark bread, woody and smokey. Nice hop bite in the finish is balancing with sweet and toasty malts. An interesting IPA. Thanks Jon!

From a 650 ml brown bottle. Pours out a deep, nearly opaque cola-like hue, deep garnet highlights when held to direct light. Tall frothy light beige head with good retention that settles to a thick cap. Sticky lacing ensues.

Detergent, dry earthy char, astringent spicy herbal hops on the nose.

Light roasty charred malt up front in the flavour with a good dose of dandelion greens and arugula bitterness. Bitterness and astringency lingers on well into the aftertaste, pretty much becomes the most predominant character in the taste.

The mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium-bodied, low carbonation, fairly weak finish.

Due to the lack of cohesion much of this dark IPA seems like more of an afterthought, in the end the dark malt doesn't offer any real backbone to speak of, while the hops seem more of the traditional English variety, yet cranked up to a more intense American volume. My lingering impression is that of earthy thistles.

A: Dark red-brown body with two fingers of lightly tanned head. Decent retention and leaves moderate lacing.

S: Roasted malts, floral and citrus notes and some pine.

T: Pine hops up front, but not to strong. A lot of caramel follows which is different.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Leaves a faint bitter/hoppy finish. There is also some caramel maltiness lingering.

D: Nice beer. It's quite an interesting hybrid style that doesn't seem to common. I don't have local access to this beer, but if anyone does it's really work checking out.

Nice to see these guys putting out limited releases. This is a nice attempt at an IPA with a dark difference. Much like Phillips IDA this is a big IPA with the backing of burnt dark malt. The colour is more akin to a brown ale but the hops arise and give it the IPA profile. The beer becomes more drinkable as it warms up and the hops get past the malt. Hope to see more special releases from Cannery

This beer pours a dark chestnut brown colour, with two fingers of creamy off-white head, which leaves a thin curtain of lace as it falls away. It smells of roasted malt, citrus, and mild pine hops. The taste is lightly roasted caramel malt, grapefruit and orange citrus, some mild nuttiness, and earthy hops. The carbonation is moderate, the body on the light side of medium, and a bit creamy, and it finishes just a tad off-dry, and clean.

This is very much like a brown ale blended with a hoppy IPA. The result is a decent IPA analogue, an interesting (and tasty) footnote to this summer's headline story in the valley. Get some before it's gone.

A It's a dark reddish brown but not dark enough too block out light I can still see through it but just barely. pours a pretty big head with decent retention and a few rings of lace

S more hops then anything else but I do pick up on some citrus along with the dark malt. quite unusually for a dark ale to have the grapefruit smell from the hops

T as it smells but with some mild cocoa very unique unlike any other beer I can think of.

M a little thin but it gets higher marks for having a nice bite without being over the top

D no real problems with this beer and I will admit I was intrigued by it from the first time I saw it listed as a dark IPA

this beer is well worth trying and being brewed just once odds are if you do like it you won't get to drink it again so pick it up so you can say you tried it
