12oz bottle, another re-jiggered, re-labeled offering from the Dixie Brewing Company, via the Minhas outfit in Monroe, WI, and for you Yankee and Confederate locals alike, hopefully only until the Louisiana operation gets back up and running - take my way-too-experienced word for it.

This beer pours a hazy medium golden straw colour, with one plump finger of foamy, bubble white head, which leaves a low sharply rocky vista of shoreline lace around the glass as it quickly fades away.

It smells of bready cereal malt, corn and rice well represented in a true overslept breakfast experience, stale apple cores, and overripe, browned pear flesh, with some hovering herbal, leafy hop-like essences, and that, yes, here it comes, that sickly fruit melded with plastic astringency so endemic in this brewer's wares, contract or not. The taste is rather over-sweetened adjunct malt - you can really get the corn grist and rice cakes in this one, but barely before a sickly plastic, petrochemical gag-fest chokes you to your very core, with some distracting, but not not at all improved, incoherent nail polish notes tacked on for good measure.

The bubbles are damned near non-existent, the body an actual medium weight, but not through any sane or normal brewing method sense of the word, and smooth with a signed deed from dear ol' Satan himself. It finishes damned-near saccharine sweet, the overwrought adjunct malt, diacetyl, and simmering veggies all making a pledge to further ruin my day.

Erp. I don't know what this particular offering was like when originally brewed in Cajun country, but I can't imagine that it would have been worse than this dreck. A sugary mess, one for which I lack the cajones to recommend to annny-one.

Dixie Jazz Amber Light has a thin, off-white head and a semi-clear, golden appearance, with some bubbles and essentially no lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of sweet, sour, and roasted grain, and the flavor is of those elements, with an added toffee note, and a back sip bitterness. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Dixie Jazz finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, and drinkable. Overall, this is an excellent and unusual light beer and is most certainly worth a try.

Bottle into mug! A lot better than the majority of light lagers out on the shelves.

Three finger head, amber colored beer, just like the name sounds.

Smells of corn. Tastes a little like corn too...

But, this is a good tasting corn, but aside from the malt, corn, and a small hop finish,... there isn't much to see here. However, this is a good 92 calorie beer for someone who does not want BMC.

Mouthfeel: Smooth with a bite at the end.

Overall, refreshing beer! Seek it out today. If I was focused on finding a good light beer, I would commit to a six pack.

Poured from a bottle into a glass for tasting. (FYI, the bottle says it was contract brewed by Joseph Huber Brewing of Monroe, WI.)

Strange aroma. It doesn't smell like beer at all. Not sure what it is, but it isn't good.

It does look nice in the glass. Pours as a clear bright honey colored with a big fluffy white head.

The flavor is odd. Kinda muddled with a little bit of grain, but mostly some kind of odd slightly metallic flavor being pretty dominant. It is fairly dry but it gets sweeter as it warms up.

Mouthfeel is also strange. Starts off as being a nice medium, but then gets weird with a strange lingering slightly stickyness.

I'm disappointed honestly. I have been looking for a lower carb beer to enjoy on a more regular basis, but I don't think this beer is it. Too much skunky weirdness. I think I would prefer a light macro to this.

One more surprising note... this beer actually improves as it gets warmer. This is not normally the M.O. for a macro style beer (which normally improves with being cold), but that's how I see it.

Poured into 9oz Pilsener glass. Poured a semi-hazy medium yellow color with just a thin cap of white head that had no retention or lacing. Why this was called "Light Amber" on the label, I don't know, because there was nothing Amber about this beer.

The aroma was just a slightly sweet basic "beer" scent, no notable aspects reached the nose. There was a slight skunk taste that didn't show up in the nose. There was also a slightly odd funk (and not the good kind), but generally this tasted like "beer".

The body was thin, as it should be for the style, but I dinged it a bit for having a sticky finish that was mildly unpleasant. Drinkability was kind of blandly meh. Overall, this would probably make an OK lawnmower beer, but that's about it. Even at that, you could make a better choice.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a light to moderate amount of carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that quickly died down but left a bit of lacing on the surface and a ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are aromas of bready malts and corn in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell with light flavors of bready malts and corn. A bit of malty sweetness is present in the initial taste.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a bit smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer isn’t bad for the style and has some body from the malts but the taste isn’t very interesting, especially with the flavors of corn adjuncts.

Bottle from some dive bar in Houston, TX

A - Poured a light copper color with a white head that leaves lacing behind

S - Is of stinky grainy malt

T - Horrible like the nose with bad grainy malt and some veggies

M - This beer has a light body with medium carbonation to it

O - This is what happens when ticking goes bad I finished the bottle only because I paid bar prices for it otherwise it would've been a drain pour its horrible do yourself a favor and stay away from this beer

Given that this is a light beer, I wasn't expecting much. However, I was surprised by a nose that, while light, still bore pleasing aromas: lightly toasted grains, a hint of brown sugar, and just a touch of flowery hops. In many ways, the nose reminded me of hay bales right after harvesting.

On the tongue, the lightly toasted grain flavors continue, but with added fruit esters that tattoo fragrant and airy apples and apricots on the tastebuds, as well as hints of rosewater. Mild brown sugars swirl in the background, and the thinnest strains of hops float near the edges. The aftertaste is virtually the same, and fades off relatively quickly.

By no means are these flavors bold and hearty--at 92 calories a bottle, there's no way this brew could keep up with the massive sugar-driven fares of, say, Imperials--but they are well-balanced and nicely nuanced. Budweiser could learn a thing or two from beers like this.

The flavor is sweet but is mainly bean like. The body is a red-amber color. The aroma is sweet but reminds me of grass. The head poured tan at about a finger and a half that goes away fast. Other than the bean flavor it is a very mild flavored beer. The body is thin and fizzy.

On the pour this is a light straw colored very translucent brew with a quickly falling scant foamy white head.

The aroma is a very flat wheat. I kept waiting for a little more.

This bills itself as a light amber, but seems to be lacking the depth expected for an amber. From wetting the lips to the fade there is light wheat and not much else of note. It is very smooth and there is a crispness.

Mouthfeel is thin and the carbonation is prickly.

Overall, this is only a step up from the mass produced "light beer". I would like to see what this brewery could do with a true amber or lager.

I bought a 6-pack of this from Woodman's in Janesville, WI for $5.49 in Spring 2011.

Pours a very pale amber color with a quickly diminishing head. The scent already eludes that the taste is going to be that of a cheap beer. There is at least some flavor of so wheat and malts but it is very comparable to that of Miller Lite or Bud Light. Drinks rather fast with no real texture or volume to the beer. This is one you can skip.
