Bottle: Poured a murky brown color ale with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with some dry toffee notes and light peat. Taste is also a mix between some caramelized malt with some light toffee and a dry finish with faint notes of peat. Body is pretty full with excellent carbonation. Well brewed scotch ale with great balance.

330 mL bottle from the LCBO; best before Jan 31 2024 and served barely chilled.
Pours a deep copper-bronze colour with perfect clarity; situated atop is less than a finger of creamy, beige-coloured head that wilts within two or three minutes' time. A frothy collar and sudsy cap are left behind, with some stringy lace tossed about in its wake; it's a fine-looking beer. Malt-forward aroma that includes hints of toffee, caramel and dried dark fruit, e.g. prune and date. I'm also getting suggestions of leafy hops, cocoa powder and metallicity.
A tasty little Scottish ale which, as has already been noted, has a few porter-like qualities. I get a hint of cocoa and chocolate at the forefront, with flavours of toffee, prune, toasted bread and digestive biscuit sweetness coming through soon after. Tea-leafy hop bitterness on the back end, with some herbal, earthy qualities as well; hints of bitter cocoa and toffee linger into the aftertaste. Medium in body, with low carbonation that contributes to its smooth, soft mouthfeel, a texture I find well-suited to these British-style ales. Very easy to knock back at 6%.
Final Grade: 4.08, an A-. Windswept's Wolf isn't a mind-blower, but I do think it's pretty darn solid for a flagship strong ale. The flavours are well-developed: it's undoubtedly malt-forward, but with more of a hop presence than I tend to expect from this style, making for a well-balanced, highly quaffable ale. Worth a look - I'll grab a few more bottles while it's still available, mostly to encourage Windswept (and the LCBO) to send more of their stuff this way. Cheers!

Best before 2024/01/31
Pours a giant frothy creamy 3+ finger off-white head with great retention and a bit rocky, good lacing, dark hazy molasses to mahogany color
Nose sweet candy, thick caramel, toffee, molasses, a bit of continued over-fermented metallic note yeasty and spicy fruity thing that reminds me a lot of early homebrewing days
Taste has more of that yeasty metallic flavor of continued fermentation in the bottle beyond what it should have been, but not too bad, fair sweet malt, biscuity, toffee, molasses, some fig date like fruits, corn syrup, but also bitter from some spicy hops, a bit tangy even from the yeasty character that's hinting like infection but not quite funky like that, finishes with a big spicy hop bitterness
Mouth is med to fuller bod, higher foamy carb
Overall meh, first is the obvious continued fermentation in the bottle that gets a bit infection like with the tangy yeasty metallic notes and over carbonation, the sweet characters were borderline within style, and the hops were way overboard, so not a big fan of this one.

Cask half pint at The Grill, Aberdeen. 6.0% ABV. Dark mahogany colour, large beige head. Malty aroma, notes of caramel. Sweet and malty flavour, caramel and molasses, a hint of herbal hop. A tad too sweet for me.

Had this on cask at The Craigellachie Hotel and ended up and bought a couple of bottles to bring back home. It's defined as a Scotch Ale, but my wife and I felt it had some characteristics of a porter. At least to our American palettes. Wonderful black color and mouthfeel. Only wish we had a chance to head up to their brewery. Next time!

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass.
A rich. dark porter-like beer; this has really nice warm fruity notes and a good malty backbone. Perhaps a touch overcarbonated but I'd quite happily sink a few of these of an autumn evening.
The best that I've had from Windswept Brewery.
Cheers!
