Hazy amber appearance. Head is gone in seconds. Nothing jumps out at me from the aroma. The only thing I get is a little mustiness. This beer is not horrible, but it is not even an average hefe-weizen. None of your typical weizen characteristics are present. Maybe a bit of a slight sour taste that doesn't seem to fit in. I can definitely drink this, but it is not a beer to try again. The worst hefeweizen I've rated so far.

Thick, large bubbled persistent head tops a light orange coludy brew from the suspended yeast and wheat protein. Grainy & tart aroma w/ a hint of lemon zest and hop spiciness. Medium bodied for style w/ a pleasant and smooth mouthfeel. Light hop bitterness, slightly citrusy hop flavor along w/ grainy malt flavors. There's a hint of caramel malt sweetness and fullness as well, something usually lacking in the style. Finishes a bit tart, but otherwise clean & crisp. Although Pryamid hefeweizen is insipid in itself, it's got a bit more character than typical for the bland style. Be sure to check the date on the bottle-- I've had Pyramids that have been way past their prime and quite oxidized.

Ummmmm.... No thank you. I will not have another one. Pyramid IPA is good. Their Hefeweizen is a bad joke. They need to get some decent hops and yeast. They also need to get over their compulsion to achieve >5.0% abv. This beer would taste better if they used more true "noble" hops, a tastier yeast and less, but higher quality grain--don't use more cheap grains to get more alcohol.

I tried one of these immediately after finishing a Widmer Bros Hefeweizen, and it didn't hold a candle to the Widmer. It has a funky smell, and the taste seems off. I'm not a fan of lemon in beer, but a lemon does make it more tolerable. To make matters worse, it's not inexpensive. I'll be passing on this beer in the future.

Ouch. First, I just want to state the fact that I HAD no preconceptions about Pyramid Breweries Inc.
Now that said, this is a horrible rendering of true wheat beer. This beer wreaks of adjuncts and cheap brewing processes. The smell is 'dirty'. No wheat characteristics are presented!
Folks it disturbs me how a small brewer will put such low grade products out, tainting the respectability of craft brewers who take pride in their product. Someone may be deciding to take their first jump into the wide world of beer and turn away when they drink this junk.
Beer is destined to be a noble drink. If you desire sex-appeal, popularity, million dollar ad campaigns, and mega-profits, then go work for Budmillercoorsweiser.

Fair, more sour than tangy, however. Not a lot of depth to the flavor.
