Special thanks to cattersley for sending this brew out west.

A: Clear dark brown with slight ruby hue when held to the light. Minimal light tan head which dissipated rather quickly leaving traces of lacing.

S: Brown sugar together with caramel and molasses, dried figs and hints of toasted nuts.

T: Sweet syrups of molasses, caramel, toffee and maple syrup with background notes of dried figs, toasted nuts and yeast. Very subtle bitter notes of hops in the finish.

M: Smooth light to medium bodied with mild carbonation.

O: This is a very malt forward beer with great flavours of caramel, molasses and dark fruits. The lack of any noticeable hops leaves this somewhat unbalanced.

473ml can purchased as a single from the LCBO booth at the Toronto Royal Winter Fair.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/4" tan head over the slightly cloudy reddish brown brew. Head recedes gradually, with average lacing. Aroma is worty with maybe a slight tartness.

Taste starts with ample grain character, a light fruitiness in the middle, closes soft and clean. Mouthfeel is smooth, and drinkability is good. Could be a nice regular drinker.

One of the "classic" Ontario craft beers which I remember drinking long before the current re-awakening. Haven't bought in a long time and it's a nice, malty and smooth change of pace.

Pours a clear brown with red notes, small head with minimal lacing. Aroma is almost purely of caramelized malts with hints of wood & rye. Malt-forward flavour also has earthy and tea elements plus some nuttiness in the finish.

Definitely a good example of a British brown.

Poured from tap at the Black Tomato in Ottawa, Ontario. Poured into pint glass, a deep brown with very little head. Nice slightly sweet malty aroma. Taste is of sweet but roasted malts and toffee. Also a bit of dried fruit, but very slight...its a bit thin, but no big deal.
Overall, a really nice Ale. Much more complex than I thought it would be. Worth a try for sure.

473 ml can to pint glass.

A - Medium to dark brown with a very slight ruby glow at some of the edges. A small amount of cream coloured head formed on the pour and disappeared rather quickly.

S - Sweet brown sugar and toffee up front. Some maple syrup aroma in the background. Fairly sweet overall.

T - Very sweet up front - molasses, maple syrup, brown sugar, toffee, dark caramel. Not much bittering at all. The flavour profile is nice but this is just too sweet for me.

M - Light to medium body; smooth. Light carbonation.

O - Good flavours but cloyingly sweet. Couldn't finish the pint.

Poured into a glass mug. A bid light tan head on a clear brownish ruby. Lots of foamy lacing. Good head retention.

Bright malt smells. Mild toasted malt in the taste.. Dead leaved. A sour overtone. Toasty malts bring up the rear with a hop twist at the end.

Medium body and carbonation. Not bad overall. Some unusual flavours. A little strong to be a session beer.

$2.70 for a 473ml can from the LCBO.

Thick frothy cream coloured head that dissipates at a reasonable speed. A nice fine head lingers. A deep amber mahogany coloured beer that turns white light red when held up.

I get a lot of nuttiness in the aroma and a bit of roasted caramel.

The taste for me is quite metallic and a bit salty. I keep getting nuts and maltiness too. It's a very satisfying mouthfeel, refreshing and warming all at once. Quite creamy the whole way through. The carbonation is quite subtle.

Very easy to drink and smooth, actually almost a tad watery. Very good brown ale from Neustadt Brewery in Ontario and I'm glad we get to have this on shelves year round.

A- Big frothy head. Dark reddish brown.

S- Malty caramel. A little one-dimensional.

T- Malty, of a sweet caramel type. A little too mild and watery overall. Faint flash of bitterness that lingers in the aftertaste and that seems to build as I drink.

MF- Medium bodied. Leabes the mouth wet. With the sweetness, it reminds a bit of a softdrink.

D- Easy to drink. Nothing off-putting. But a little bland and unbalanced towards the sweet side.

I had this beer last year out of the can but had it again last night on tap. I really enjoyed it allot more on tap.

Pours almost a root beer color with a nice malty layer of head.

The taste is malty and coco. Smooth light tasting brown ale that is very enjoyable to drink.

Tallboy can picked up at the LCBO; BB date January 2012. I'm always down for a new brown, and this is the first time I've seen 10W30 at my store. I let this one warm up a bit on the counter before pouring instead of serving it at fridge temperature.

Pours a dark mahogany brown with some reddish-copper highlights under the light. Atop this sits a robust, nearly two-finger light tan-coloured creamy head, which lasts a few minutes before dissipating to a creamy collar and film. Not a lot of lacing. The aroma is quite pleasing, with notes of molasses, cocoa, vague bits of coffee and dark fruit and plenty of dark roasted malts.

Now this is a brown ale. The taste is dominated by roasted malts, nuts and dark chocolate. Molasses and almond notes. Mostly sweet, but there is some noticeable cocoa and coffee grind drying bitterness in the finish to balance it out. Medium-bodied, with a creamy mouthfeel aided by the low carbonation.

Tasty stuff, tons of great malt flavour without going overboard and winding up in 'cloying' territory. Definitely worth a shot, and something I will likely pick up again as this is one of the better brown ales I've had in the last year or so.

I've been wanting to try this for quite some time now, after enjoying their Scottish ale.

The beer pours a dark copper colour, revealing a small, quickly diminished head and little to no lacing.

The smell is...wow...malty! There is a strong blast of roasted malts, primarily chocolate, with no hop balance to speak of. Very tasty smelling.

Taste is odd. The chocolate-y malts are most evident, but it is lacking in just about everything else. The beer finishes awkwardly, lacking any kind of hop bite, and features an odd aftertaste. Nevertheless, I did enjoy it. The light carbonation and light mouthfeel make this very easy-drinking.

Fans of Newcastle Brown, Old Speckled hen and the like will enjoy. It's not excellent, but true to the style and tasty.

A- Reddish coca-cola (cherry cola?) Head completely gone in both my friend and my serving. Not very pretty. Second pour left a bit of khaki head.

S- Milk chocolate with a light fruitiness. A little bit of alcohol. Not impressed yet.

T- Better. With a name like 10w30 I was thinking it was going to be something big and rich. It's actually not. Should've read the rest of the can... Premium Dark Ale. It's a pretty good dark ale. A little roasty but still light. A bit of a metallic drywall taste which I don't like. Bitterness is kind of dirty.

M- A bit too thin but not too bad. Very dry, astringent even. Low carbonation.

O- Tastes wrong to me. Dirty chemical bitterness. A bit to thin In my opinion. Kind of refreshing though.
Don't think I'll ever buy it again.
