of all the russian beers i've had, this one stands out as the best of the bunch. for having such a low alcohol content, it definitely has the best flavor for a low ABV lager that I've had in some time. Definitely a copycat of the other Euro pales out there, but for the $2.25 asking price at my local convenient store, I will probably go back for one every so often. Not bad, but nothing that will ever send you running to show the neighbors.

16.9 oz heavy green bottle with freshness dating. Poured into a glass, the beer is a hazy straw yellow with a quickly collapsing white head.
Classis Euro lager nose. Some sulfur with grains that all but overwhelms the slightly flowery hops.
The taste is slightly more bitter than expected. There hops add a bit of spiciness and twang. The trailing grains add a nice sweet counter point. More floral and fruity late.
The mouth is surprisingly springy with zippy carbonation.
This is a pretty easy drinker once you get past the initial aroma. I think this beer would be good while sitting in a beer garden and eating a grilled chicken sandwich.

Don Classic Lager. This garden-variety Euro green-bottle lager featured a paper-thin, bubbly head on the pour. Color is a macro yellow-gold . . but the smell! Dead skunk on a humid day, combined with a hint of ditch weed - I suspect this beer has spent a little too much time in the sunlight.
Despite the horrid smell, the taste was fair and crisp, with a noticeable hoppy finish. I'd try it again and hope that the smell I experienced was simply the result of a bad beer.

Hand carried from Rostov to Moscow (thanks, Vlad), this product is brewed at Baltika's Rostov-on-Don (River, hence the name of the beer) brewery. Comes in a tall green half liter bottle with a slightly stubby neck and a green and gold label featuring Baltika's trademark mug above the name. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 4/14/06, I opened it on 12/3/05.
Pours a slightly greenish gold under a 1.5 finger off white head that managed to linger a bit before fading to film and collar. I think I see one spot of lace. The nose is bland, with some bready malt and not much else. The mouth is light and of medium carbonation. The taste is solid but unspectacular. Decent malt opening with lots of grain but neither sweet nor fruit. The hops are tinny yet well subdued, living a bit of a bite, but not for long. Oh, wait, here they come back again, well into the aftertaste. Still, a very mild brew. Drinkable, but no one goes into rapture over this one.
