One finger tan head, moderate carb bubbles and reddish brown body. Coriander, pepper, bit of banana esters, not an overpowering aroma altogether. Mouthfeel is medium heavy, fizzy, slightly chewy, leads you to expect more out of this than what you get. Taste is overwhelmingly malt, maybe a hint of hops on the back end. Drinkable but not really impressive in any regard.

#9 comes in an interesting shaped bottle and that is the best thing about this beer.
It is a dark, iced tea color beer. The head faded fast and no lacing on the glass.

The smell is of toasted malts, but not that pleasant.

Taste- Overly sweet toasted malts with a some dull hops in the finish.

Little carbonation and almost flat mouth.

Overall, this stuff is dreadful. I had a rough time of it finishing the 16.9 ounce bottle.

Makes me glad I do not live in Russia.

Bottled 10/13/12. Best before 10/13/13.

Pours a clear dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks and dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt and some caramel aromas. Taste is much the same with a toasted bread flavor on the finish. There is a very mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with some solid aromas and flavors and one of the better Baltika beers in my opinion.

Poured from a 16.9 oz. bottle into a 12 oz.mug.
Pours a crystal clear, medium brown; the color of strong pekoe tea. Sweet smells of warm pumpernickel, waffles. Taste is toasty with definite notes of rye/pumpernickel. Sweet caramel and toffee on the swallow. Medium body. Smell of rye malt really picks up as it warms a bit. This is an awesome beer!

my first russian!! prefer blondes, but she'll do...
pours a clear light brown with a slight creamy head on top.
smells like a dark hofbrau or something; apparently they get their malts from munich?? sweet and caramel-y.
tastes like a dark hofbrau, with the same kind of malts, but with a dark, sinister bite which i think i like.
it's got a medium density feel to it, seems like an almost generic beer (but with a nice accent), and it makes me want to try others from Baltika. i've got an open mind, i think russian women are hot, so i might as well try some more of these, right?
Carlsberg bought Baltika out? and Bev bought Budweiser out? the two superpowers have succumbed? it says the contents are (literally) water caramel, rye malt and hops. caramel? did they add caramel? and rye? i like rye.
overall, it's a really good brew. nice head, beautiful lacing, can session it (for awhile), and it makes me want to try the others in its line up. and maybe a blonde russian farm girl, too!

Appearance: Clear reddish-amber in color, with a modest off-white head, thin scattered lacing, slight carbonation.

Aroma: Dark bread notes, slight dark fruit, and some mild hops.

Taste: Opens with toasted malt notes, dark bread, and caramel. These tastes carry throughout the taste, and seem reminiscent of home-baked dark bread. Late in the taste, some mild herbal hops appear to bring the taste to a balanced close.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: A pleasant, although undistinguished example of the style. Not one of the best Baltika beers, but one can easily do worse.

Presentation: Packaged in a custom half-liter brown glass bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Appearance: This beer had a tan/light brown colour.
Smell: This beer had a light aroma of both grains and hops.
Taste: Baltika #4 had a mellow dark beer taste. Very smooth.
Mouthfeel: The amount of carbonation within Baltika#4 is correct. Not too strong, yet not too weak!

Overall: Grains and hops could be tasted in this beer. Baltika #4 is a practical dark beer. The taste does not seek to overpower anybody. Baltika #4 has the dark beer flavour without any harshness. There are no rough edges with Baltika#4. Baltika #4 is a mellow dark beer that is easy to drink.

Served in a pint glass.

Appearance: Cloudy dark brown with a an off white head with a light orange tan tint. It is little weak as far as size settles to less less than 1/8" without sipping.

Smell: Heavy malt scent, disapears quick though and that's why I am not rating it higher.

Taste: Like the smell Heavy malt and lightly bitter. Like brown sugar or molasses collaberated with the right touch of hops.

Mouth: Not exactly smooth but it's sweet after-taste is something just a little different from the rest.

Overall: Very good beer, I just have two things in mind when I drink it. If it is best suited for after dinner or after dessert, that is the question? Salud!
