Had during Brewvival 2012! Served from tap into a Brewvival sampler imperial pint. Poured orange with a minimal off-white head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, banana, wheat, and fruit. The flavor was of sweet malt, banana, fruit, grain, and wheat. It had a light feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. Based on the description of this one, I was really excited to see that it would be at the festival. Unfortunately however, the sugar was nowhere to be found on this one. The added sweetness from it would have been a very nice touch as the base was solid, but just needed a touch of sweetness to knock it into a new tier. Not a bad brew at all, but not great either.

Appearance: Presents with an amber color almost shaded into russet; the head was impressive as was the lacing

Smell: Golden raisin and spice cake, with brown sugar on the nose

Taste: The brown sugar, golden raisin and spice cake elements jump out, with a growing tart character developing by mid-palate to offset the sweetness; apple and balsa wood elements in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A very interesting take on the style; like the tartness in the middle to counter the sweeter elements up front and in the finish

In a tulip glass this beer was an amber color. The thick, off-white head left sheets of lace.

Very aromatic. Some brown sugar/caramel. Fresh, outdoors, grassy. A little fruit, a little citrus.

Taste of candy, sweet fruit. Grassy hops with a little grapefruit.

Crisp and enjoyable. Would drink this anytime.

On tap at Churchkey DC, served in a snifter. Beer is copperish with a mild haze, low carbonation, soft white head, large bubbles, low retention.

Aroma is sweet and a little grainy.

Beer is watery with a mild malt sweetness up front and a dry finish. It is fine and a nice little Belgian beer for what it's worth. I might have it again.

Enjoyed at the BBF.

A - Poured a slightly hazzy light rust colour with a nice white head that hung around to leave some fair side lacing.

S - Really nice belgian dark ale notes here. So this was boiled with dark candi sugar and its evident in the nose. Nice and sweet with some carmely malts, with a hop profile similar to Thing 1 (light citrus fruits).

T - Wow this is tasty. Great sweetness and dark fruits . Nice and roasty with super light chocolate notes. Its not overly sweet, which I figured it would be, but just enough. Easily the best tasting Allagash at the table for us.

M - Just a great mouthfeel. Not too sweet, not too heavy. Good carbonation keeps this light on the tongue. The ABV isnt really noticeable.

O - Overall, I liked this beer. I liked this beer alot. We all did. Just a great Belgian dark ale with the dark candi sugar really making this beer pop. Would absolutely love to have a bottle of this, and I'd pay top Allagash dollar for it!
