Looks like cherry 7up. Really clear and sparkly red appearance. Small white head that dissipates. Very nice.
Clean raspberry scent. No overpowering funkiness. Even has a cherry 7up smell to it.
Strong pithy bitterness. Seems to be the theme with Allagash's funk. Raspberry flavor is there but not as strong as I would like. Seems like more of a balanced fruit lambic. Seedy raspberry taste. Fairly light in acidity. Refreshing. Tannic like bitterness on the finish is a little overwhelming.
This was nice to drink but it lacked in many areas.

375ml bottle dated 11/4/10
A: Pours translucent pale red/pink, thin soda like head that very quickly evaporates into nothing. Looks a little flat.
S: Light raspberry, oak, funk, slight grape skin
T: tart raspberry that is a bit subdued and in good balance with oak and funk. A little lactic, not overpowering. Not quite mouth puckering.
M: Medium body though carbonation is too low for my taste.
O: Great balanced taste, though I'd prefer it'd be more acidic. Carbonation was a little flat. A great beer, but not perfect.

Received in trade from mixylplik3, thanks for the opportunity Matt.
Pours a deep cloudy garnet red with a smallish pink tinged head that quickly dissipates to a ring on top. I can smell the tart as soon as I wrangle the cork out of the bottle. Lots of tart raspberries with a hint of brown sugar make up the bulk of the aroma. Lactic acid and funk provide support. The flavor is filled with lactic and citric acid. Lots of tart berries and lemons with just a touch of brown sugar. Light bits of funk come and go in the taste cycle. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a piercing light sugary tart mouthfeel. This is a very nice sour I quite enjoyed this.

375ml bottle from the recent batch sent to me by Valdieu2, poured into a Cantillon tulip.
A: Pours a ruby body with a nice light pink head. The head recedes immediately.
S: Sweet raspberry flesh, tart skin, some mouthwatering acidity, a good dose of oak and horsey brett, a little bit of pleasant cheesiness. Potently fruity and funky, very impressive.
T: Puckeringly tart raspberry, slightly acetic, some lactic notes, very dry oak, wet hay, a bit gamey in the finish.
M: Very light-bodied, scouring carbonation, dry.
O: Can't really find any major flaws with this one. The fruit character in this batch is great, as is the balance of acidity and funk. Very promising for Allagash's spontaneous program.

375 ml cork and caged bottle poured into a Bruery tulip.
5.7% ABV, Date bottled: 2/6/2012
Many thanks to Rochefort10NH for this bottle I never knew I wanted until it showed up at my door! :)
A - It's without surprise that Coolship Red pours, well, red. Bright red in fact, it's topped by a pastel pink head which, again without surprise, disappears almost instantly as the effervescent hissing subsides; a pretty good indicator that this beer will have quite a bit of acidity to it.
S - Coolship Red packs a wallop of freshly crushed raspberries which do their part to try and compete with the wild, funky aroma of this spontaneous beer. Barnyard horse blanket and damp straw emerge with a sharp acidic bite to the finish which bites at the sinuses with sourness for an exceptional aroma. Earthy oak finishes out, barely shining through the funky aroma.
T - An epic battle continues to rage between the bushel of fresh crushed raspberries and yeast funk that plays out to the flavor of every lambic-lover. Damp straw and wet rocks persistently push to the forefront of Coolship Red's flavor leaving some of the grittier spontaneous funk behind like horse blanket and goatiness.
M - Somebody turned the Sour Power knob to 11, cause this beer is ridiculous! The intense blend of tart raspberries and sour, biting acidic fermentation and earthy tannic oak combines for an aggressive feel that's elevated further by prickly carbonation and a light, crisp body. Give this a light swish in your mouth if you're looking for that lock-jaw intensity!
O - With ease that seems to come almost naturally, Allagash's Coolship Red rivals some of the classic Belgian lambics in straight up barrel aged funk and full, unadulterated fruit flavor. This is by far the best American-made lambic I've ever had and one of the sours out there, period.

Poured into a snifter. This one pours a clear light ruby red with a small pink foam. Looks great!
Barnyard aroma with nice tart fruit with a sweet middle. Woody on the edge. Sour start to finish on the pallet. Nice raspberry flavor with oak and some bunk on the finish.
The body is light with soft carbonation. Lingering woody flavors here. Overall this one is great. Nice to have some rockin' local sours!
