Notes:
Victoria Ale was inspired by a visit to Victoria Mansion, in Portland, Maine and the visual references to Bacchus, the god of wine. The brewer's decided to fuse the worlds of beer and wine. Over two hundred pounds of Chardonnay (Vidal Blanc in 2010) grapes were brought in, crushed on site and added directly to the mash. Victoria Ale's aroma is fruity spice, and the taste presents subtle notes of green banana, black pepper, and fresh-crushed mint. With a focus on the subtle, wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew boasts a pale copper color, Belgian yeast influence, and a medium body with a long candied fruit finish with hints of honeydew melon, and, of course, white wine grapes.

Pours a cloudy orange-ish, yellow color with a white head. In the aroma, it was all white grapes. In the taste, Belgiany sugar and a dry white grape. A sweet fruity and bitter moouthfeel and a semi-dry fruity aftertaste. Great flavor, fantastic grape presence. Hide alcohol very well.

On-tap 6/18/2013 at Track 84 in Warwick, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a bright yellow color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains Belgian yeast, citrus, bananas, light caramelized malts and a faint touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out with flavors of citrus, caramel and bananas. Then some breadiness comes in from Belgian yeast and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. There’s some spice in the background along with a decent hops presence creating a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid and flavorful Belgian-style beer to drink for a long time.

A: Pours a hazy light to medium golden yellow to apricot in color with light amounts fo visible carbonation and some apricot + peach highlights. The beer has a two finger tall fluffy off-white head that slowly reduces to a couple of medium thin patches, a thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer, and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of pale malts with some lighter notes of peach, apricot, and lemon. Light to moderate aromas of grapes.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of pale malts with some peppery yeast and just a touch of honey-like sweetness. There are some lighter notes of fruits including citrus/lemon, peach, and apricot along with slightly stronger flavors of grapes. There is a slightly tart sweetness towards the finish.
M: Medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with a light hint of dryness in the finish.
O: The alcohol is well hidden and the fruit sweetness really makes this one easy to drink. Very enjoyable and one I will happily drink again.

2013 vintage. Poured from a bottle into a snifter, the beer is a slightly hazed, bright orange-gold coloring with a thin, whispy, filmy coating on the surface. Some slow carbonation throughout the body present while you drink. Aromas of toasted grains, sweet and tart grape, and some berry sweet and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast. Flavors are light and effervescent from the crisp body and carbonation. Toasty grain backbone with white wine characteristics, both in dry sweetness and booze kick. Like a dry Pinot Gris. Some of the funky character from the yeast shines through, but not much. Pretty well balanced palate, maybe slightly leaning to the dry side. The aftertaste also has the wine-like feel, with a dry, fruity grist flavoring. Dry and smooth finish, with a slight sweet and tart linger. Interesting and unique beer.
