Bottled July '09

Pours an extremely dark brown with a one-finger tan head that fades slowly to a skim coat and stick ring.

Smell is dominated up front by candied fruits with strong notes of prunes and raisins. There are also notes of oak and dark sugar.

Taste is very much like the nose: candied fruits up front with oak and yeast notes. There are hints of chocolate and caramel as well. The finish is on the sweet side for sure.

Medium-bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel.

A great beer fresh. I can't wait to see what some older bottlings are tasting like right now.

Dec 2011 bottle opened May 2013.

A - Beautiful looking brew. Dark walnut body with ice tea and cranberry highlights. Fluffy off-white head with poor lace and ok retention.

S - Dark grains, toasted Eggo waffles, maple syrup, toasted marshmallows, booze.

T - Oak, honey, toasted coconut, rye bread crust, caramel, toasted whole wheat, vanilla, almond, tiramisu. Complex with great integration, and not overly sweet.

M - Medium frame. Nice smoothness.

O - The beer really opens up close to room temperature. Great balance and complexity.
