Allagash Dubbel boasts a deep red color and a complex malty taste. The finish is dry with subtle hints of chocolate and nuts. The yeast asserts itself by lending a classic Belgian fruitiness.

Poured from 750mL bottle (batch 67) into Chimay chalice glass.

A - Poured a thick cloudy reddish amber with a nice yeasty head that hung around for a bit. Looks thick and syrupy with a sugary tint. Somewhat sticky lacing.

S - Alcohol and sugar. Some dark fruit undertones like prunes, raisins, plum. Nice and subtle as the style is supposed to be having the nose lead with sugar and a hint of cinnamon and spice.

T - Plum, raisin and fig-like. Not nearly as sweet as the nose suggests, certainly more spicey than the smell.

M - Has a bit of an alcohol bite...much more so than beers of the same style with a higher ABV. Leaves my mouth tingling with a bit of a sting which eventually evolves into a somewhat bittery dryness.

D - Not too filling or overbearing. Somewhat subtle for the style...a bit more spicey than I am used to and I feel like the alcohol jumps out a bit.

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter via Zid----Cheers!
This very nice ale pours a lightly cloudy burnt orange with a solid
head of off white foam that settles to a thick big bubbled ring, thin pool,
and shows some excellent lacing. Nose of toasted malts, light brown sugars,
light earthy yeast, light biscuit, and subtle citrus fruit notes. Flavors exceed the nose
with a mild orange zest surrounded in breaded malts and biscuit that are lightly dashed
with brown sugar and earthy yeast that mingles with light raisin and grape notes. Excellent
mouth feel; medium body, medium carbonation, and a lightly sweet and subtly dry finish with
a slight herbal hop note on the back.

Miss this one in the area----it is a solid brew from a great brewery that has
been missing for about 12 years or so.

Thanks again Zid!

Cheers
