Notes:
Allagash Dubbel boasts a deep red color and a complex malty taste. The finish is dry with subtle hints of chocolate and nuts. The yeast asserts itself by lending a classic Belgian fruitiness.

Batch #87
Appearance: Pours a cloudy mahogany color with a head that is solidly Belgian in character; plenty of lace patterns line the sides of the snifter
Smell: Brown sugar, figs and clove, with an underlying woody/nutty aspect
Taste: Opens with a woody, brown sugar character that adds some figgy fruit and clove spice by mid-palate; after the swallow, the flavors are decidedly mellow, with some sweet tobacco on the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation
Drinkability: Not the most complex dubbel out there, this is much better than their regular Double and is among the better American examples of the style as it is neither cloying nor overly alcohol-laden

I poured this yukky beer into my tumbler at 45 degrees. The beer was cloudy, amber in color and poured a nice frothy tan head. The smell was nice whispering notes of creamy caramel and nutty goodness that makes you just want to bite it. Then you drink it and the dream is over. SOUR yuk, SOUR beer. Abbey sourness I can't stand. I will not buy again.
