Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: very dark brown hue, but not so dark that you can't see through it with sufficient light. Body is lightly hazy and the head is a thick finger of frothy tan foam which leaves a nice lace on the glass. Very nearly a paragon for the style.

Smell: very nutty, lightly caramelly and lightly toasty malt aroma. Not much in the way of hops, which works well here. One of the few truly "nutty" smelling beers I've had -- there is a beautiful hazelnut quality here which is not overly sweet. It's growing on me; it's quite awesome.

Taste: more of that hazelnut right up front, followed by a more porter-like roasted malt character. There's a hint of chocolate in the mix, but it's just a supporting role. Magically, through all this, it's not overly acidic or astringent; this is one beer which has exemplary balance. A tiny bitterness and green hop character comes in at the end, but it's not vegetal or overdone or anything. Wonderful.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and a satisfying creaminess. In most beers, this would be a hallmark; in this beer, it's a merely "good" part of an otherwise amazing brew.

Overall: this is probably my favorite English-style brown ale. Easily rivals Hazelnut Brown Nectar in the Brown Ale category, and is just generally delightful. I rarely come across a beer which so wonderfully represents its claimed style *and* is, simply, super-tasty to boot. There are almost certainly recipe tweaks which could make this beer better -- but I sure can't tell you what they are.

22oz bomber, pours mahogany in color as the bottle suggests, with a frothy, tan head, good retention and an explosion of lacing on the glass. Aromas include bready malt, toasted grain, brown sugar, and faint cocoa nibs. Taste is sweet brown sugar, nutty toasted grain, bread crust, biscuity, earthy hops. Super creamy mouthfeel, pleasant carbonation, definitely could drink a couple of these easily.

Pours a ruby copper color with an incredibility tall head, perhaps to much priming sugar.
Big aromas of biscuit malts caramel and toffee malts and sutle nuttiness.
Very sweet tasting and quite malty. Caramel malts and toffee rule here but man is it sweet.
Nutty with perhaps a hint of dark fruits.
A really too sweet beer for my liking.
