On tap at the newly renovated Alesmith tasting room.
A: Black with a fleeting dark brown head.
S: Dark chocolate accompanies earth and coffee. I get fudge and booze with a dash of pine. There's a light medicinal note.
T: Burnt malt with a medicinal sort of plastic flavor. The bitterness is acrid. Coffee piles on astringency. The finish is alcoholic dark chocolate, harsh bitterness, and charred malt.
M: Full body with upper low carbonation.
Overall: One of the worst Speedway variations I've tried. Pretty unpleasant flavor.

On tap at O'Brien night of a million zillion speedways
Look: black and totally opaqu with a 1/8 inch head and good retention
Smell: The Slovenian Hops used to dry hop it created a piney note that did not really work with the coffee backbone
Taste: Sadly the flavor was worse than the smell. And it reminded me of a very woody and piney bad black ipa
Mouthfeel: Full body and low carbonation and a bit dry from the dry hopping
Overall: This was my least favorite variation that Alesmith did. The piney woody hops did not work well at all with the base beer

On tap at O'Brien's
A: Gorgeous black color with a 1 finger mocha colored head.
S: Really interesting stuff here. Roasted malt, bananas, overripe fruit and a hint of mint with some earthy hops in the background. It's kind of a lot going on and I'm not really sure if the strong hops work with this beer.
T: Has some good roasted malt and coffee flavor upfront but it's quickly replaced by some overripe banana and a ton of earthy and green hop flavor that grows and grows. Not really sure I'd like to try this one again.

On Tap
Night of a Million Zillion Speedways
O'Brien's Pub
San Diego, CA
Dark as night black with brown edges, thin head but the body of this beer is just spectacular. It's thick and oily and leaves the glass absolutely covered in sticky lace. Thick as can be and dark as night. Spectacular.
Unfortunately, the appearance is one of the few fine things about this beer. While there is still a bit of the coffee and roast combination left from the untreated version of Speedway, the dry hopping has given this beer an incredibly woody character. It smells like fresh cedar planks.
This tastes like freshly cut cedar wood with a little bit of roast character. It's not a particularly pleasant combination.
The mouthfeel still sings, but it doesn't seem quite as thick and luscious as other Speedways.
This certainly is my least favorite version of Speedway Stout.

On tap are O'Brien's for million zillion night
A dark black body ad no head. Same with all of them
S-not so great. The hops almost had a negative effect, if that's possible
T-not so great. Again the hops are terrible and really ruin the beer
M-medium body and smooth. So smooth
O-worst one by far. Everyone thought so. Keep your hops Slovenia!
