Another great black pour at the FW Invitational. Thin dark brown head, ultra black SRM infinity type of abyss color and thickness wise.
Aroma, wow, just the awesomeness of the coffee from the regular speedway, but with the most delicate addition of bourbon. Really spot on, didn't think this could be improved, but hot damn if they didn't actually improve on it.
Taste, rich, luxurious, really coats the mouthfeel with a syrup like consistency, but with gobs of coffee flavor all over it. Chocolate and bourbon to a lesser extent. Like regular speedway, this hides the alcohol extremely well, and is never a chore to drink, even though it is double digit abv. I get a little more nuttiness from this one. They really applied the fine touches here, the oak, bourbon and vanilla are mere additions, the heavily roasted coffee/base malts are still prominent and not overshadowed.
One of the few beers I went back for a second pour of. Excellent stuff that flew under the radar a bit at the fest.

On tap at the brewery.
A: Impenetrable brown, darkish film of brown head which recedes to a ring and some swirls layered on the surface of the beer. The head is very nice looking, like espresso.
S: Well balanced bourbon and vanilla and all the great coffee and dark chocolate of regular Speedway.
T: Sweet bourbon and oak, medium-dark roast coffee, dark chocolate. Alcohol has a little burn and is more prominent than ideal. Still delicious, though.
M: Medium carbonation and full body. The carbonation adds a velvet smooth mouthfeel to the full body. Leaves a little sticky residue on your lips.
O: A nice mix between regular and BA Speedway, a toned down version thereof. The full BA version had more barrel presence, which is a decided improvement, but this is still excellent.

On tap at Alesmith. Black body with some reddish brown near the edges and an inch of dense beige froth. The nose shows an excellent blend of bourbon, vanilla, coffee, and dark chocolate. It's quite rich. Caramel meets earth and molasses. Lightly nutty with some wood.
The flavor is rich dark chocolate with vanilla and a stronger than expected bourbon presence. Molasses meets roasted grains, licorice, and wood. Moderate bitterness throughout with a firm coffee profile. Rich bourbon vanilla dark chocolate coffee finish with a touch of astringency. Full body with a moderate level of creamy carbonation. The mouthfeel is sticky, chewy, and silky.
Overall, very much like a quality batch of Barrel Aged Speedway with a bit more coffee and hop character from the larger proportion of fresh unbarreled Speedway blended in.

On cask for Woodshop 7 held at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the entire drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, cookie dough, wood, vanilla, and bourbon. Taste is much the same with a mild alcohol kick and a woody finish with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is super tasty and easy to drink.

A: Black and viscous with a thin mocha colored head.
S: Big aromas of espresso, chocolate and some subtle bourbon notes.
T: A fantastic blend of coffee, chocolate, and bourbon with some hints of dark fruit. Really good stuff. Glad I got to try this one.

On tap at Stone 15th Anniversary
Deep dark black with just a touch of brown at the edges. Creamy light brown head with excellent lacing and good retention. Creamy and oily viscosity leave a great coating throughout the glass.
Beautiful, arromatic, sweet and robust nose with all it's notes in perfect harmony. Bourbon, cocoa/dark chocolate and creamy coffee make up the amazing perfume.
Flavor is just perfectly balanced amazing in every way. Same as the nose along with the characteristics. Everything is in perfect harmony. The impression of the bourbon from aging is finally spot on.
Smooth and creamy viscous mouth coats the palate perfectly with a mild creamy carbonation.
Overall I've had the standard, 100% and 30% Barrel Aged Speedway and this is where it has all come together to make the perfect BA Stout. IMO the bourbon on the 100% BA was a bit too much. Because I've had all the variations of this beer and believe they've hit it right on the head with this one deserving of my second perfect score. Phenomenal beer!
