Availability: Year-round. bottle (1189), on-tap (70), growler (7), nitro-tap (5), cask (4)

Notes:
Jet Black, with an off-white head. Starts with a strong coffee and dark chocolate sensation, then fades to a multitude of toasty, roasty and caramel malt flavors. Clean and crisp, full- bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content lightens up the feel. You won't fool your taste buds - this beer is HUGE!

A 750 mL bottle sent by FluffyMcTingles; thank you for this want! Opened as part of a small stout tasting, and poured into a 5 oz. snifter. Reviewed from notes taken 01/03/2012.

Typical black body with a good amount of brown head; moderate retention and a small amount of lacing to round it out.

The aroma places an emphasis on the coffee, with caramel, chocolate, brown sugar, and vanilla to round it out. Very well balanced and inviting. I have "Very nice!" written down in the margin, so I think I liked it.

Taste is of coffee, a nice mocha essence from the chocolate, vanilla, cacao, caramel, and faint alcohol. I had been warned of the ethanol presence in this fresh bottle, but decided to crack it open anyway; not disappointed in the choice, but would love to revisit a slightly older bottle.

Mouthfeel is rich and thick, with a bit of a syrupy texture that coats the mouth. A slight ethanol burn on the finish.

Overall, a great integration of the coffee into a solid stout. As I mentioned, I'd love to try this again with a bit of age on it to hopefully let some of the alcohol mellow, but I really enjoyed this one fresh as well.

It comes deep black with a nice big tan head.

The aroma is lovely with sweet chocolate and roasted malt. There's some alcohol and coffee.

In the taste, it has a bittersweet chocolate flavor and the booziness is surprisingly delicious. It is quite apparent though. There also is a big hop bite in this beer, unlike some other beers in the style.

I prefer the hoppiness compared to a Great Divide Yeti. The smoothness is very important in making this beer complete. One of the better or best Imperial Stouts out there.

I am admittedly more a fan of dark beers and had the fortune to be introduced to this one by a friend who cellars stouts (it was also upsold to me as being amazing before I ever tasted it so that's my only bias).

While pouring it, I felt like I was in that syrup-chugging scene from Super Troopers - I don't really know how to explain it more. It was so dark it was like looking into Ray Liotta's soul. The aroma oozed out of the snifter - chocolate, dark roast coffee, caramel, maybe a little vanilla. In contrast to my opening remark, the mouthfeel was not that of syrup or caramel but I'd more liken it to a dark chocolate covered espresso bean. This is just a fantastic beer. I saved this one for a night when I could just chill out and enjoy a sunset and a beer.
