Notes:
Jet Black, with an off-white head. Starts with a strong coffee and dark chocolate sensation, then fades to a multitude of toasty, roasty and caramel malt flavors. Clean and crisp, full- bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content lightens up the feel. You won't fool your taste buds - this beer is HUGE!

2012 - 750ml bottle with my FW snifter glass
*notes taken on 01/13/13
A: Speedway Stout pours a super dark brown body that settles even darker in the glass. Completely opaque. Not terribly thick with some lively carbonation streaming up into a brown sugar colored foam head. Fades out to a mocha swirl on top leaving the glass fairly clean with just a few dots and squiggle of stick.
S: Smells of dark roast grains with a healthy measure of dark chocolate syrup and some underlying green coffee bean. The aroma is sweet overall and reminds me of a rich chocolate cake. There is a slight earthy musk to the beer and a small amount of black licorice in there as well. Really nice and quite pleasant nose.
T: Tastes offers a bold and rich combination of dark chocolate and espresso coffee. Sweeter profile overall without ever becoming sickly to the palate. The coffee additions are reserved, harmonizing with the dark malts rather than competing. I get some lesser notes of brown sugar/molasses, burnt caramels, and a bit of dark dried fruits. There is a lower level of perceived bitterness to the beer and a noticeable alcohol spice kick. This is a beastly brew that practices such great balance. Very enjoyable with great flavor.
M: A full bodied stout with a seemingly higher level of carbonation brings through a very light and creamy texture. Keeps this one from becoming too filling. Slight drying towards the finish with some warming alcohol and a light sleekness that lingers after.
D: Incredible drinking experience for such a big beer. Great flavors of rich dark chocolate covered espresso beans with superb balance And feel that keeps this one very approachable. Undoubtedly a world class Imperial Stout and one of my favorites.
Highly recommended.

Poured into Chimay chalice. Bought off the shelf and in the cellar about two months.
A- Black with an ultra-creamy tan head. Looked like a well-made latte, complete with swirls.
S- The most exceptional component of this for a stout is the nice fruitiness. This combines with milk chocolate and a little coffee. Very malty
T- Roast, bitter, dark chocolate, dark coffee. Fairly crisp
M- Not very thick for the style and abv, but very smooth and pleasant.
O- A very solid imperial stout. It didn't quite "wow" me, but it is a good take on the style.
