Brewsters' end of summer 2011 seasonal offering. It's still 30 degrees in Edmonton, so, at least it feels right...
This beer appears a clear bright golden hue, with two fingers of thin creamy pink-tinged head, which leaves a pretty thorough wall of painted lace around the glass as it duly settles. It smells of sweet raspberry, rounded wheat grain, a bit of citrus, and a soft yeastiness. The taste is sweet, sugary cereal grain, not a lot in the way of wheatiness, mild green raspberry, a hint of ripe banana, and more soft, innocuous yeast. The carbonation is fairly low, the body a solid medium weight, but tainted a bit by the sugar syrup character, that kind of detracts from the smoothness. It finishes still sweet, the malt and yeast fruitiness really the only game in town.
A very promising start, but the raspberry guest star wanes quickly, leaving an overly saccharine clear wheat beer. At least it diverges from that 'Brewsters' common character, but I think one is plenty for me.
