I must first preface that I live in Chicago and have just been turned on to New Glarus. While visiting family in the western burbs, I found myself with little to do after Christmas so I sequestered the car and headed off for Kenosha... hoping to buy enough beer to get me through the winter.
I got all the beer I came for. They had oodles of Spotted Cow and Fat Squirrel as well as plenty of Raspberry Tarts and Belgium Reds. I was also able to walk away with sixers of Bell's Expedition Stout and Two Hearted Ale.
Most are sold chilled, so I have to store them outside until I return home and can refrigerate them, but I was so tickled to find Bell's there that I made my purchase and didn't have to make another stop.
It's extremely easy to find... as it's right off off of I-94. The liquor department is off to the right and, as many have already mentioned, it's cash/debit card only. Come with a $100 and you'll easily spend it.
Bottom line -- this is a grocery store. A grocery store that carries some of the best micros in the land (Founders, Bell's and NG). How can you top that?

Made a run up here for some New Glarus while in North Chicago for business. I wasn't aware, but this is just a portion of a grocery store.
The selection was okay, nothing spectacular, just the regulars from well known local brewers. Very few singles available, and many that were seemed to be old beers they were trying to get rid of. I actually saw a wheat ale with a brewed on date of 2004 (I visited in 2007)! Check any dates that are available, I found quite a lot of old beer.
The service was friendly enough, helped me get boxes and pack up my Wisconsin haul. I didn't talk to them about beer, so I can't comment in knowledge, but they seemed to be just a general clerk at the grocery store.
One note, they do not accept credit cards. Luckily they take debit cards, but just a heads up for anyone who may be going to stock up.

While visiting family in Kenosha I stopped in to get me some New Glarus. Easy on/off 94 in Kenosha Wi. This is my first trip to a Woodsmans, so I can't compare. They have a seperate beer/wine/liquor store attached to their grocery store. It is a huge warehouse style store. They had all the New Glarus regulars, including the Wi Red and Tart but excluding the Hop Hearty, which is what I was really after. I settled for some Spotted Cow. They also had many Lakefront, Captial, Greys, and Tyranena options. Decent selection IMO for a grocery store.

Stopped at the Woodman's hoping they would have some Wisconsin brews not available where I live in Illinois. I was pleasantly surprised when I found seven different Lakefront brews, about a half-dozen different Sprechers, at least a half-dozen Capital beers and perhaps most importantly, four different Tyranena beers. I walked out with two six-packs of Tyranena, one six-pack of Capital, and one of Lakefront for 27 bucks. The selection was not the greatest I've seen, but decent, with a few west coast micros along with the Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana ones. Not a lot of variety of imported beer, but I was there for the Wisconsin stuff, and I found what I wanted. Perhaps not the best selection for the locals, but a great stop for the "Flatlanders" or anybody else crusing along that section of I-94 in search Wisconsin brews. I also noticed a remarkable selection of cheap, mass-market "retro" brands of beer such as Carling's Black Label, Blatz, etc. Prices are quite competitive, but it's cash and carry, so that sort of makes sense. All of the beer that is sold at Woodman's can be had cold -- I've never seen so much cold storage for beer outside of a warehouse or brewery!

Made the journey up from Chicago and without traffic it's fast. Right off the highway and just over the state line. Quick shot for the New Glarus fix. Well run liquor department. Would have suspected their might be a few more WI brewers in-houe but decent number of offerings from New Glarus and Tyranena, Capital and Sprecher but not their whole range. Prices seemed very good and most beer kept refrigerated. Only complaint was very fluorescent lighting everywhere. Decent quick pop for some WI beers but sounds like taking the extra 1/2 hour to Discount Lqiours would be worth the extra effort.

The liquor department of Woodman's is a separate part of this enormous grocery store. Almost reminds me of a well-lit warehouse when walking in. Very large selection of micros and import beer available, in addition to spirits and wine. Open wall cooler extends the entire length of the back wall and then some. Prices here are tough to beat. Most likely, the best selection in Kenosha and ranks up there as one of the best for variety in Southeastern Wisconsin. If you plan on buying anything, leave your Mastercard and Visa at home, as only cash and checks are accepted here.
