Nut Brown Ale has a diverse grain bill which lends this traditional English ale a variety of flavors that coalesce into a remarkably smooth and pleasant drink. Additions of various pale, caramel and dark malts create a smooth, sweet malt profile with hints of roasted nuttiness. Multiple additions of English hops round out the flavors and give this classic beer a true flavor of the Old World.

My first time with this style of beer and I like it. Nothing too special, but its good.

Appearance - Like a deep mahogany brown with a small light brown head and a little bit of lacing.

Smell - A nice noticeable caramel and malt.

Taste - I like it. Nutty and caramel. No bitterness to it at all and is very slightly sweet. It kinda needs to have more of its flavour. Feels like it could be more nutty and caramel but seems to play it safe. Perhaps I had it too cold.

Mouthfeel - Carbonization is just right but it does not have much of a presence in the mouth, which is slightly disappointing but not so much to knock off a few points but just enough worth mentioning.

Drinkability - Pretty good. It has session beer quality drinkability and would be something good to add a bit of variety to some of the other beers I consider session beers. I could knock a few of these back with no problem.

If you are looking for something complex then this is not your beer. If you're looking for something a little different but not too out there then this is a good choice to mix it up a bit.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled in 7/2014. Pours slightly hazy deep reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, plum, apple, nuttiness, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, nuttiness, light chocolate, herbal, light plum/apple, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, nuttiness, light chocolate, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good robustness and balance of dark/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.9%. Overall this is a nice English brown ale. All around good robustness and balance of dark/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Enjoyed from the 12 oz bottle in a snifter, this excellent example of a brown ale pours a clear perfect reddish brown with a thick creamy off white head and moderate lacing. Nose o roasted malts and a dash of herbal hops. Flavors are nutty malt goodness, sweet caramel malts, light toffee, and a dash of light herbal hops on the back that makes this a rather easily quaffable brew. Moderate carbonation, and a solid improvement with warmth. Not overly sweet, this is a solid example and an excellent brew to pair with a spicy meal. Very nice.

Pours a semi-clear brown color with average head and extra nice lacing. Aroma is very light and hard to pick up any concise elements. Taste is light, with malt, light almond and a considerable amount of sweetness. Overall, a light brown ale with not a lot of bold flavors or components...

I prefer browns less sweet than this one by Bluegrass. It was difficult to detect nuttiness apart from slightly resembling a marzen's character; and although carbonation held, I couldn't keep from wondering what it would be like to find sweetness in the aftertaste, not at the front. Like the M&M standby "melt in your mouth -- not in your hand!" I wanted the sweetness to find me not smack me at the onset practically before I'd raised my hand-held beverage to sip!
